looks like they attached the furling line backwards. hook up your sail and wrap it up, THEN attach the furling line. This way, when you unfurl the sail with the jib sheet, as the sail unfurls the furling line will wrap in the drum, allowing you to pull the furling line to furl the sail back up. Hope this helps anyone who was just as confused as I was. Great video otherwise!

the other thing I noticed is when they unfurled the sail, the line was coming out of the starboard side of the drum, not the port side when they wound it up.

What you failed to mention is the cutting of the top foil to fit the headstay length of the boat.

Nice video. I just order an Ocean Unit 1 I plan to install. I think Ill skip the part of whacking it with a hammer.

I’m staggered that nothing went in the water

I'm confused...the way it looks, the guy in vid put connectors with connector bushings on connector towards top of foils and in manual, the show at the bottom...what is the right way?

It seems to me that when the sail is out one should have the furling line mostly wrapped around the drum, except for the portion that leads back to the cockpit. In this configuration when one pulls the furling line it wraps the sail around the foil. In this video the Harken rep wraps the furling line around the drum at the same time he wraps the sail around the foil. Something seems off here. Please help me understand what I must be missing, considering a Harken rep, which I assume is an expert in the field, is doing this presentation.

good point Jack. When raising the sail you just need a few turns on the drum to insure you don't run short when unfurling.

You'll notice when he's attaching the tack to the drum, there is no line on the drum.

Yep. He rolled it wrong. Line should be initially installed with the sail rolled up, so that when you deploy (unfurl) the sail, the drum will pull the line on to the drum.

Your furling line is chafing on the furler guard. I'm assuming that there's a way to adjust the orientation of the guard to better align with the furling line?

So there is no tubes or anything filling in the foils between connectors/connections?

Can the foils be assemble and "slid up" from the lower headstay, without removing from the top of the headstay from the mast?

It would have been nice just to bring the camera in just a little closer

      Great technical video
Mix up with furling line and sail however
      Procedure needs to be opposite
Line fully rolled onto drum, then sail hoisted
Pull line and the sail is furled

Is there a turnbuckle also on the mk 3 racing furlers? Can I access the turnbuckle also by just opening the screws and lifting the black part with the drum?

    • @paulholden256
      @paulholden256 ปีที่แล้ว

No. From what I am reading that is one of the differences with the ocean series. You don't have (easy) access to the turn buckle to adjust the headstay tension

Don't trust the stickers pointing "UP" on the halyard swivel. Ours was wrong and it gave us a lot of frustration, wasted money and time...

Rick indicates that the plastic bushings are installed on the top side of the connector (video around 2min45sec). The manual (page 14) shows that it is the opposite: "Sandwich bushings on wire, mating hook of plastic bushing with connector and mating with four recesses in bottom
    part of bushing."
