sat with Mr Deer all the way to a competition in Germany on a bus when i was with the tagb squad in my younger days. such great memories and now coming back 11 years later from chilhood to re live that dream. hope i meet you again
Awesome, you are in excellent hands then, Andrew is an exceptional instructor, say hi to him from me (Stuart of Warrior Collective) next time you see him!!
At 5:42 I could not help but giggle because after the hard hits to the bag and now Darrel is wearing padding he looked so nervous like he was thinking how did I end up being the body bag 😫 😭😂🤣
great tutorial...ima southpaw as well but wen I throw the back kick I like to from an orthodox position more towards the liver shot... which n most cases is an automatic k.o if done correctly n accurately
Good tutorial I always tryed the back kick from close guard and more like a follow up not like a counter! This looks very smart I'll give it a shot!!! Very camera shy ;D
Good tutorial. Been trying to master my back kick but I feel like when I turn I twist my legs around each other so I end up being thrown off balance. Anyone got any tips?
Also at 7:05, he explained: he was not loosing his target, which means even though he turned his back briefly, he was able to hit his intended target once he completed his turn.
Dear Stuart, you have to introduce a dwit chagi, by stepping back first. Otherwise, the back kick has no power ! Thus, the dwit chagi is a defence kick. You have to kick it like a wild horse ! If you use the dwit chagi as an attack kick, you need a much greater distance. PS: The dwit chagi is even more powerful than Bruce Lee's Side Kick. By the way, Bruce Lee was trained by Taekwon Do Grand Master Jhoon Rhee ! Best Wishes Dipl.-Ing. Ralf Steffler Netcool Certified Consultant Out~of~The Box Solutions Germany
Bien Crafts incidentally, Andy started and trained for the majority of his career in ITF style TKD and if I recall was on the TAGB national squad. Damon was pure above the waist kickboxing - light contact/continuous and a world champion under WAKO WKA
Your landing looks uncertain to me, and i did not figure out yet why you just turn, hit and fall back on your feet same position you have started . If i wanted to shot someone with this kick and i am all confident about using it i, would try to bring my full body into this. So this is what lets me come to the point, that i assume you should finish not in starting position, but in closer to his attacking position. Maybe i am wrong, better you tell me, whats with it, thank you Stuart! :) hope you replay me (not sure if this just depends on the bodyweight differnece between me and my opponenet??) and why dont you lower your standing knee to get in balance for the kick??? Ö the entire video makes me believe your in first place moving your legs more than your upper body, please correct me if i am wrong! i am no martial artist at all, so please help me out of this :)
In Taekwondo, the stance (especially under the Olympic rule set) tends to be very side on. A lot of kicks when thrown are often rechambered and landed forward. This then allows greater use of spins and switches to vary up the kicking attacks in a progressive or retreating manner. It is horses for courses though to some extent as it depends on what your initial attack is and where you are trying to lead it to. I hope this helps, thanks for taking the time to watch and comment! I really hope you are enjoying the channel!
This tutorial could have been around 3-4 minutes long if he had stopped waffling on about the same tips repeatedly. Other than the unnecessary length of the video, it was good and I'll probably use the kick though.
When we film these tutorials, a lot of instructors have not coached to camera much (if at all) before so it does take a bit of getting used to. Also, with this video we tried to do a 3 pronged approach, no pads, pads and then sparring application. This meant the segments were not filmed in a normal timeline, hence why there were some repeated elements when discussing the fundamental mechanics. Andrew's coaching is excellent and is very clear and concise. I am glad you enjoyed the video regardless of those points, good luck with the training!
To be honest I kind of liked the repetition. Most of the training I have with striking came from Muay Thai. The repetition helped me better understand why and how this kick is set up it also helped me to put together how I can combine this with muaythai

Wow, sounds like great memories indeed! Mr Deer works at the Manchester based GB TKD centre of excellence if you are ever passing!
Thanks to this video, I won my first competition with a back kick KO. Thank you!
You can see the KO on my channel: "4th Taekwondo Match" at 1:12
You’re amazing I’ve been home training for a while and your style in teaching is very helpful
I tried this move once in a school fight, the bullies never saw it coming
I can't imagine a bully would have much idea of what a strong back kick would look like until it was too late!!
Andrew Deer is my after school taekwondo teacher

Hi its Misu, you guys make a great team. Me and my brother try to make a good team too.😀
Hey Misu, thanks for getting in touch! I have checked out your channel, you and brother are doing an awesome job with it, keep up the hard work!!
What does he mean when he says, "I have to loose my target"?
Nick Bamford he needs to take his eyes off his target for a second
Also at 7:05, he explained: he was not loosing his target, which means even though he turned his back briefly, he was able to hit his intended target once he completed his turn.
I think he means hide his chest protector so he doesn't get hit before he executes his back kick.

can i aim for face with the back kick ?
Mantu Mukherjee yes you can go high with this technique.
Mantu Mukherjee yes you can go high with this technique.
you can if you are not lazy ;)
I did this when sparring. My opponent was winded. They are horrible kicks if you land them. And we had chest guards as well.
I saw one guy get spinning back kicked into a giant bonfire once.

Nice tutorial but this is pretty basic stuff
