    I have the 1000se recently with the discounts. This is the time for that headphone, well less than half the original price-or sometimes lower! And can be driven by nearly anything, though it likes more power like my iFi portable amps can give. I haven’t heard the Atrium, but I don’t think I would bother. The $2,500 for the headphones, and then 1,500 to $6,000 for a Felicia amp. Whereas I now have an endgame headphone. And I will agree with your assessment of the detail-astonishing! Brought tears to my eyes as it was the first time it LITERALLY felt like I was listening live, not a recording. And for the first time, I really appreciate sound stage. I have great IEM (64Audio, Thieaudio, FatFreq) and I have the Focal Clear Mg. None of them have soundstage like this! I am quite literally inside the chamber group! There are voices in front, to the side, even above. The subtle echoes of the hall play across the soundstage. The clicking of valves and the sound of rosin bows. Some may be distracted by this but it is the heart of real properly recorded music. And something anyone could hear when listening live. This headset is the greatest musical bargain of all time. Run and don’t walk to get one before they disappear, as I fear they will, given the new models entering the market.

    MISTAKE... A few times in this video I referred to the Feliks Audio Elise as the Echo. The Elise was the primary headphone amp used with the ZMF Atrium while doing this comparison.

    • @MartinBaltuhin

      is the Echo good for Atrium? Or must be Elise?

      The Echo is actually very good with the Atrium, but the Elise is a little better. @@MartinBaltuhin

    Another great video! FWIW, I have the Felix Euphoria, and that drives my HE100SE beautifully. Now I think I need the Atrium to see how that sounds with the Euphoria 😂

    I have a hard time picking between the two! I already have a planar pair - DCA E3, and a dynamic driver pair - Focal Radiance. Also have an HD600, which I mostly use for gaming. Now looking for an 'endgame' open backs to complement my small collection. Im really curious about the details and expansive soundstage the Hifimans reproduce, but at the same time a bit reluctant to try them due to their 'bright' tuning. On the other hand, seems like the Atrium would work best with the genres that I listen to - EDM. Also love the fact that you can tailor the tuning to your liking with ZMF headphones using their pads and meshes. Help???

    Mr. Murdock, have you tried swapping between a pair of top-notch earphones and a pair of your favourite headphones, in order to avoid the fatigue you mentioned? I have an unusual shaped head and small ear holes, so I may try this idea myself.

    Hi, I was looking for a DAC/AMP for the He1000se around $1000-$2000. I currently have the JDS elements III ... I was thinking in the Chord Qutest + JDS or the RME ADI-2 DAC FS... What do you think about these 2 options? any other recommendation? Thanks

    • @KMASCII
      @KMASCII ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Just my two cents. I suspect the Chord Qutest would perform better than either the RME ADI-2 or the JDS Element III. Both the ADI-2 and Element III are a delta/sigma configuration, meaning their signal processors are preprogrammed to a specific spec by the chip manufacturer. Whereas the Qutest will be an FPGA type DAC, meaning Chord will have done the pre-programming in-house (to their specs). This isn't to say that FPGA DACs are inherently better though. But I suspect you'd appreciate the performance of the Chord more than the other two.
      I personally use the Denafrips Pontus II DAC. The Pontus II is at a similar price point to the Chord Qutest. But the Denafrips is what's called a Ladder R2R DAC. It will have a softer, smoother sound compared to the others, including the Chord, but will still be highly detailed (a sweet sparkle). The Denafrips is an analog DAC. What this means is it uses arrays of resistors (called ladders) to convert the digital signals rather than employing an IC chip for conversion. Hence the analog sound.

      I have the adi-2 and wouldn't change it for any other DAC in the market no matter the price. You can add an amp or use it as a combo but the DAC part is the best you can get.

      The Caldera is _technically_ a superior headphone, but I actually prefer the Atrium and Verite Open over the Caldera. Planars just can’t compete with dynamic drivers in the areas I tend to care most about. I don’t care for more details than what the AO & VO provide.
      The Caldera is the best planar I’ve heard, tho. I enjoyed it more than the lcd-5.

      That said, the Atrium reaches another level when used with a good OTL tube amp. The sound becomes very 3 dimensional.
