Poor James! He didn’t win the car, so he walked away with $1,000 instead, so they showed both “A” and a word “Car”. What a total disappointment. Christine did the same back in 1999.
"This is historic. Never before in the 34 history of Price is right has a contestant lost on everyone of the three prizes." "I'm an overachiever, Bob."
Back in the 90s, there was an episode when one contestant played: he had a C, and A, and an R! He ALSO had ONE of the 2 cards that spelled out CAR! He had 5 cards! Look for the video title: Price is right, Stung by the Spelling Bee
I also saw an episode from the late 90s, where this happened as well. Bob said he wanted to see if it was possible if he could have won, and neither one of the two cards he had said Car, so he lost. Then when they came back from break, he mentioned he didn't offer to give the contestant the $1000 before looking, so he was going to give him $1000 anyway.
Just witnessed a lady miserably miss on all three prizes (5/31/2022). She was greedy enough to try for the car even though she could have taken $2000, but she only got a C and an R. Her husband told her to go for the car. That lady was a case study as to why contestants should never, ever listen to the audience. You're better off thinking for yourself.
Personally, I do not blame him for doing that because the odds were heavily stacked against him, a 1/15 chance of finding a CAR card is very tough indeed. Still though, it was heartbreaking to see what happened there.
@@weatherdan882002 I just found it, since TH-cam will spam my comment if I post the link, type in Robert Carey and he has one titled "The Price Is Right Spelling Bee".
Thia man tough me inglish with Seinfeld, i was 9 tiil i was 16 i lived in Montreal i just lesrned french ,but bob and Seinfeld were to me at 9...10..11. Etc amazing i woudvtell people about Seinfeld no one cared cos none speaks English or wanted to learn
@@angrybirdsfan2003 Thank you. I did remember watching this from the summer of 2007 right after Bob retired. And yes this as so heartbroken when this person should had gone for the car
+Wet Noodle No, actually, this was from February of 2007 and was one of the last shows to feature Bob as the host. Spelling Bee wasn't first played until one of the very first episodes of season 17 (1988-89).
0:45 It's a new CAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! - Rich Fields
I have the same answering machine at the 2:02 mark and it still works well.

I guess the second painful Spelling Bee.
It would have only been funnier if both cards said "CAR"

5:06 ONLY 2 CARDS & HE PICKED 1 THAT SAID 'CAR'
MAN HOW'S YOUR LUCK
Off to the Psych Ward, James!
5:05 AYE!!!!!! QUE MALA SUETE SE PERDIO EL AUTOMOVIL!!!!! But at least he's going home with MIL DOLARES!!!
Presently, on the Spelling Bee pricing game, a consolation prize is $1,000 for every card that is unrevealed.
I also saw an episode from the late 90s, where this happened as well. Bob said he wanted to see if it was possible if he could have won, and neither one of the two cards he had said Car, so he lost. And that's why you never chicken out of the game, even when you think you blew it.
Well that couldn't possibly have gone worse.
Nah, hardly the worst Spelling Bee ever. At least his guesses for the prizes were reasonable.
5:04 Painful moment right there.
3:33 - 3:36 At least, I'm glad he's looking on the bright side.
Worst Spelling Bee player could've won a car.
I bet the guy who bid 2001 was pissssssssssed. Aaaaaaahhhhhhhhhahaha
Drew Carey had a similar situation like this one too.
The only happy person in the audience is the guy who lost because of the 2001 bid.
4:39 No way!🤦♂️
2:03 I remember seeing that in the PS3 version of The Price is Right.
Boy, we're off to a flying start on this 1, but maybe, the luck for the rest of the episode turns around.
Ouch what Un Painful Lost on Spelling Bee Yeesh Enuff Said!

What a heartbreaker!
The money was the better deal 😆
Ahem! Match Game Hollywood Squares Hour theme being used.
Actually I did see an episode way back in the early 1990s where someone missed all three item guesses on Spelling Bee....it's rare but it can happen.
Cost $500 for a peek. I would have done it...
Well Mr. $2001, a joke's never funny the second time you hear it.
Given what he was faced with, it was smart not to take the risk
I've seen it the other way around. He tries the car and doesn't get it. That how it happens more times than not.
If I recall correctly the woman took the $1000, then Bob looked and both the cards had an 'R' on them.
KarlBonner1982 I think that was the spelling bee episode I saw where the contestant got only two cards and they were both the same letter
Original air date: November 15, 2006
Yes, that's correct; only, this contestant could have won as well; his first card said car as well.
Don't feel too bad for James - he won his showcase at the end of this show and there was an SUV in there - so he came out just fine.
It's all right
Personally, I do not blame him for doing that because the odds were heavily stacked against him, a 1/15 chance of finding a CAR card is very tough indeed. Still though, it was heartbreaking to see what happened there.
Ouch, but IMO he did the right thing by taking the $1K because there was a good chance he wouldn't have found one of the 2 CAR cards.
And then a couple weeks later, a woman ran into the exact same scenario, only she opted to take the car, and amazingly won it!
Is there a video of that anywhere?
@@dylanbennett4097 There used to be, but I haven't been able to find it in years.

I too would have taken the cash, given the slim odds I would be awarded the car. $1000 is more than he came with!

When was the original airdate for this?

So instead of coughing up $6,200, you walk away with $600 in profit. He played the game perfectly.
What about Elmo?
Lmfao
this had to be from like 1980 because those prizes are horrible
Lol true
