Turning PAIN Into PURPOSE & Protecting Your PEACE w/ Trent Shelton

  • Today, more than ever, PEACE is elusive for many people.
This week’s guest, TRENT SHELTON, has a lot of things you’ll want to hear. While football was his PASSION early in life, helping others has turned out to be his LIFE’S CALLING.
Much of our chat is about combining inner peace and marrying it to YOUR CALLING. Trent talks about how DEALING WITH LOSS of loved ones has propelled him forward in his PURPOSE. So many people are still searching for those ANSWERS, and Trent is going to give you a lot to THINK about to help you bring clarity to your FUTURE.
A big part of this is learning how to PROTECT YOUR PEACE. And as Trent explains, the way you do that is by paying attention to and maximizing your AUTOMATIC and PURPOSEFUL minutes and REMOVING TOXIC PEOPLE from your life.
Trent and I also get into how you can change your way of thinking when you can’t change your situation. As you’ll also hear, PERSPECTIVE IS EVERYTHING.
Both of us have also seen many people suffering from DEPRESSION. If that’s not you, chances are you may know someone who is depressed. One of the most important things you’ll want to TAKE NOTES on is how to overcome depression and what red flags to look for before those feelings overwhelm you or someone you know.
    UNDERSTAND THIS.
Trent and I both believe you can have more peace in your life. You can find it by sharpening your purpose, practicing more GRATITUDE, and being MINDFUL of the things you need to do.
Finding peace starts with the INNER YOU.
When you achieve that state of mind, all other things become possible.
    0:00 Intro
    1:46 Protecting your peace
    3:53 Automatic & purposeful minutes
7:43 Trent's most difficult year & how he got through it
13:41 Removing toxic people from your life
20:10 Changing your perspective when you can't change the situation
22:17 How Trent's friend committing suicide affected his career
    28:02 Recognizing our true calling
34:10 How to have more peace if you're depressed

❤in following Trent, I've discovered you, Ed! Grief can grind you down to such a place, recovering seems beyond reach. Within 4yrs, my Angelic Mother, Father, my two brothers, last of beloved family, 2 closest friends died. My best friend was murdered by her estranged husband, on the day I begged her to stay with me. I 💔BROKE. Begged God to let just 3mths pass without death! Throughout, I was the Caregiver to everyone else but myself. Took a massive toll on my health. I became my only Caregiver. All alone except for paid help, my health destroyed. One darkest of nights in my soul, looking at the dogstar & praying that my Mom would hear me, ready come home that night - I did one last search for HELP. Up pop Trent Shelton with the words & balm & love that allowed me to begin believing I might survive because I WAS NOT ALONE. Saved my life that night & others when riptide of Grief suck me under & shatter my ❤, over & over. Not a soul to hold my hand. Trent was there. The 😇Angel my precious Mother sent me that dark night.

My younger son's name is Trent and I love this name even more after this podcast. Out older son shot himself and he passed into heaven at 15 years old in the strict lockdown of quarantine in 2020. Our 11 year old son Trent has really risen up to be such a blessing for the love of his older brother 🙏. Thank you Ed!

@@rickspalding3047 I want to build a rental empire with real estate. There is a family dynamic cuz my dad had rentals. He has been gone for 12 hrs now and I have been trying to convince my mom and sister to expand. To no avail. Time to go out on my own. I have a dream to buy Christmas presents for 1 million people a year. Yes, this is one thing I think of often while watching other podcasts. We'll see a guest on the show for one hour, then somewhere else we watch for another hour and often time the same ideas are being perpetuated. Do something different and focus on getting select characters on multiple times. No one else is doing that... yet. That's the next step of podcasts.

FIRST OF ALL, excellent interview!! Second, Trent, my Texas neighbor, thank you for such an eye opening and immensely vulnerable interview. I've lived through trauma, cut out Vampires (those who are negative and drain your energy), a true introvert and non-confrontational. I've lived a life of solitude growing up with a stutter that I was accustomed to being alone. I'm hypertuned to people so I know if they are going to add or subtract from my life. I love your message of pain to purpose. We are all here for a reason, I truly believe that and my purpose is to show the world 🌎 how amazing and courageous PWS (People Who Stutter) are. I'm venturing into Voice Overs because I believe we need diversity in the media. Thank you again and I'm going to find your TH-cam channel and binge all your videos.

Perfect timing for me as well. A near death experience brought me many profound spiritual revelations and pushed me to a new level. I discovered Trent on Dean and Tony Robbins live event on June 15th, 2024 and his message was very compelling and resonated to many things in my own life. I will tell you in all honesty that I have been through hell and back . I went through "The Dark Night of the Soul" , and events that were so frightening that I could not even utter a word. If someone else described my story in a book , I don't know if I would believe it, but it really happened. Finally after 10 years and a lot of learning, prayer, meditation, writing and counseling I am ready to fly again. I too believe that sharing my story will give others hope through the darkness and it is my calling also. I continue to surround myself with like minded people that have and will raise me up to a new level! Thanks Trent.

This episode speaks volumes into my life. I can resonate with Ed and Trent as it pertains to being a professional athlete, losing a parent (lost my father to gun violence) and pushing yourself to make a mental/mentality transition. After getting cut from the NFL myself I felt that my life had no meaning. I was in a dark place with an even darker mentality.
Not until I challenged my self to be curious. Curious about who I am ultimately and removing the extrinsic motivation of what I viewed fulfillment as. Seeking my purpose was a full time job. Dealing with naysayer telling YOU, your purpose/dreams will never work.
Being a husband, father, speaker and businessman now. God has provided me with the life to impact so many by simply taking the proper steps to understand ME. What moves my soul, how can I be of service-things ultimately I never asked myself, because my service was predicated on what I’ll get in return.
Thank you for an amazing episode. I hope viewers/subscribers really hear this because it will be life changing.
    Thank you fellas!

I needed this today more than you know. My Mom is 96 and I have been her caregiver for the last 6 years until she took a fall in November and is now in rehab but not doing great. I have had a very hard time coping with the fact that she may not survive this but I know I should be thankful that I have had her in my life for the past 96 years. I’ve always done my best to take care of her and make her proud and I think it all goes back to the murder of my sister at the age of 19. Having lived through that I never wanted to see her in pain again. Trent spoke to me in this show and it’s something I needed to hear that I know she will always be my angel looking over me.

“Prescription of fulfillment” I absolutely love it. The part where he talks about identifying if it serves his peace or not - event with finances. That’s so huge, absolutely love it. Thanks for another great interview!

Wonderful! The motivation to change a situation rings true. I learned a few years back that we have this sort of "attractor" inside of us. Where you put your focus/ energy, that is what you will draw to you. Hanging on to frustration/ hurt becomes addictive and in a weird way, feels safe because you can predict the next day, the next week or decade to be the same. Allowing myself to wonder, imagine, plan a new version of me is where I had to start. It's a process that I'm thrilled to be experiencing now, but the early moments of recognizing a pattern of unfulfilling choices were very daunting. Sad times for sure but once I came through it ( with the love, patience and support of my wise husband) we all just soared. Light hearts to you Ed and Trent. Thank you for what you do.

Thank you Ed, I loved thiis. I lost a few good friends last year that broke my heart and it took me quite a while to wrap my head around the idea why 'why, all the good one's'. It really torn me apart, these woman we're like mother and Grandma to me :( Anyway, by listening to Trent Shelton he has really helped me get through the grieving process and the understanding of losing a loved one. Also when he talks about 'TOXIC PEOPLE', I lost a lot of people cause I had to really sit down and think about, who are really are my friends? That's when I started to eliminate quite a few people and now I am quite happy....

Wow!! This is AMAZING! One of, if not my favorite interviews you’ve ever done! My first time hearing Trent, pure gold!! I lost my youngest son 4 years ago, he lost his battle with addiction. That pain point has given me a desire to speak to young people about making better choices. I’ve gotten away from that desire and this interview has made me realize I need to focus on that again! Thank you both for this awesome interview!

Unbelievable AHA moments for me Listening to two Great Men!!That which you do not hate, you learn to tolerate!!! It’s not what I left for you, it’s what I left in you!!! If you lose something, can you replace it?
My word for the year is Awareness! Awareness of being intentional, purposeful, & skillful in accordance with my Vision, Mission, Purpose & Core Values in life while being aware of my Red Flags. So everything you talked about resonated with me. I am so grateful for the both of you. Much Love and Aloha!!! #edmylett #maxout

Awesome show today Ed! Your content always seems to be right on time for what I need to hear. I love Trent's AM/PM analogy. My children are now grown but I did apply the PM focus to the school rides. Those precious minutes where you can disconnect from everything else. Sometimes we still bring up conversations we had in the car to and from school ❣ #maxout #purposefulmoments

Thank you Ed and Trent, what a great interview. I would like to share an experience I had meeting Trent at a conference in Dallas. Trent is a true genuine caring person, and his perspective on life is incredible and inspiring. When I met him I was extremely emotional as I just found out my girl friends biopsy was benign (I lost a finance to cancer 21 years ago) and I broke down in tears and he was so supportive. He encouraged all of us to go after our dreams regardless of what anyone says. My mission is to inspire people to be the difference in their life by embracing their superpower of being themselves, and Trent has inspired me to keep going because people need to hear my message.

What a great interview! You both seem so genuine and you inspire me to think about things from a different perspective. I really liked his analogy about toxic soil, "what type of soil do you plant your seed in?" and how things can be good but not for you. I really like the exercise of asking yourself "is this bringing peace or pain in my life or is it neutral". I have been working on my inner peace for the past year and still working on it everyday. Cutting out the toxic people and environments while creating good daily habits for my mind, body and soul. Thank you both!

I love this episode Ed!! One of my favorite parts is when he said, there are some things that are good, but just aren’t good for YOU.” That is so true. If everyone focused more on what they really want instead of what’s cool to want people would have a lot more peace of mind.
