Ely Level Crossing

A Class 158 in East Midlands Trains livery heads into Ely station before it heads back out, either toward Manea or Shippea Hill. A Class 365 in Great Northern livery also heads in the same direction, toward Littleport. This crossing closed in November 2018 and was on the main A124 road out of Ely to the south east at the time of filming. There was a big risk here as the road splits to go under the tracks or across them. Many of the trucks who couldn't go under the bridge queue here and block the entire road and the bridge, as the crossing can be down a while with the 5 railway lines that converge here. There are many height signs and even laser height detectors and signs, but one van just squeezed under while I was there, with an inch to spare. This was one of the more bigger crossings in the UK, with 4 tracks, 3 of which are electrified. I got bitten by a red ant trying to setup my camera amongst all the weeds and that. This is the last video my camcorder ever filmed, having already filmed every single video on this channel from Battle LC to here.

it wasnt removed. it actually is still there, just left to rot. I belive they left rhe wigwags on until they died.

Nice! Lights got upgraded to LEDs. I went over this crossing back in 2011, which was my first time seeing a level crossing in the UK. I almost saw a train here too, but we were on a tour bus and we were going the other way..

Fair play to the lorry. He's big, heavy and hard to stop. I'd have given the car a ticket though!

It's a pretty wide crossing at Ely with four lines to cross, so I think the lorry was probably committed at the time the yellow light showed. The car probably wasn't.
