It might be possible to walk the cat to where it needs to be. I once walked a cat 15 miles when I was a green" operator". The only advice I got was "don't run it in high gear: you will slap the tracks right off of it." It would probably pay to get more experienced advice on that. I love the way you take the time to teach your kids. They will grow up and be self sufficient: something lacking in this world. I am getting especially fond of Riley, and his try anything and get it done attitude. Good luck, I am cheering for you.

I watched an ice road trucker load a dozer onto a trailer. He put tires on top of the trailer tires for the dozer to drive over. Seemed to save his trailer tired from weakening. I’ve never driven one but seemed to work. Good job raising your kids you two!
That is life on a ranch. Go from one brake down to another. Your kids are more like men than most adults that awesome. It good to see you wife keeps her sense of humor. Be cautious when blowing out the air filter I heard that you can easily blow holes in them. I worked for an old farmer once, he made us tap the air filters on a tire until they came clean. What notice about the boys is they know how to handle equipment and cattle and horses and eachother with calm patience .They don't throw stuff scream when mad and they handle projects slowly for example the fuel nozzles he doesn't rip it out of tank and fling fuel everywhere! Tiny things make a difference..

I am very impressed with the responsibility Riley can handle, i am sure his brothers are similar, but we do not see them handle big gear as much as Riley. Still don't have the names of all the boys down, but the one telling Dad he lost all his stuff was golden :)
Gotta give the props to Riley running that dozer! Just learning how to drive it and then being asked to back it off the trailer. That would've made anybody nervous! He handled it like a champ! That sucks about the trailer tire(s)! On the bright side though, at least the catastrophic failure was limited to the small area. No damage to the rest of the trailer or the dozer and no injuries!
Here from Florida. I just looked online and that dozer with rippers total weight is right around 45 ton or 90,000 pounds. At best a two axle trailer on a good day is probably rated for 20-25 ton. I’ve run a d8k and a d8r and was moved very short distance on a 3 axle trailer and longer distance on a 4 axle trailer. Never been on a horse but pretty handy with machines and tools.
Yep, that was a failure from the start. That trailer would not be rated for the weight of the D8R on a good day with proper maintenance and good tires. Looking at the condition of the deck I guess maintenance was never done and the tires looked to be a mix of what ever was handy. It is a shame as now the trailer is of no use for other tasks. A good example of the danger of the split rims, get rid of them if you can.
That seems to be a theme with their stuff. Worn to a ragged edge. Cant blame them money doesn't grow on trees. Wonder why they did not have it dropped off at the site?

In another comment he said that the previous owner had told him that the dozer had been moved on that trailer in the past so like him, id have taken the previous owner at his word also. Ramsey will figure it out, not his first rodeo. I admire the whole family for their grit.
@@MrTodd51 If it had good tires on it and you weren't climbing a mounting or going off road you'd probably be alright if you're only going a few miles and drove pretty slow. The reason for 3, 4, and more axles is due to bridge laws. You can get tires with a load rating high enough to handle the weight on two axles, but they're insanely expensive. Hell two tires would be worth more than the entire trailer probably. My guess is the GVWR isn't even 20 tons. You can block the suspension but it'll be a rough ride. I've done some pretty sketchy stuff but I have doubts I would've even loaded it on that trailer. It has not aged well, lol. Putting a $400K machine on a $500 trailer? No way. Oh, did you see any tie downs at all? Tracked machines on wood and/or steel might as well be ice. I've slid a dozer off a trailer and I was only going across my field. Crazy stuff.

The very first trip we made with the big grain trucks, driving home brother was driving he hits the clutch peddle and we hear a snap then when he was gonna shift again he presses the clutch peddle and there is nothing, peddle went down to the floor and stayed there. Lucky we were on our home road just 3 miles from home and drove the rest of the way in 3rd gear 10mph. a rod that connects the clutch peddle to the clutch a cotter pin fell out and the vibration or use slowly moved till the rod fell off the peddle. Dad said it was a 5cent fix that took 4 hours to repair.
Reilly is absolutely over the moon to be driving the dream of every little and he us very young so he will never forget his first time driving this big dozer.

That’s the same way I started driving a tractor when I was 9 years old. My dad turned me loose in a pasture field after giving me instructions so he could go back to more important things on our dairy farm. He left me alone for an hour or two. The next day he put me to plowing the fields. I started working for my grandpa when I was 17 years old running a D8 caterpillar with a cutting blade clearing trees and stumps behind loggers for a local paper mill. I’ve always wanted to operate one of the big boy dozers. My grandpa’s dozers had a gas engine you started first to start the diesel engine and the blade was raised and lowered with a cable. Dozers have come a long way since the mid to late 70s.
Love to see your boy driving the doser. More kid should have the chance to see and learn how things really works. Not only computer stuff. Keep on the good work. 🇧🇻🇧🇻

The tire blew or deflated and let the ring come loose and all that took out the second tire and lugs breaking the drum. The trailer certainly wasn't going to go up any so something had to give. I'm not sure how standard those parts are. Some stuff was while if made during wartime could be some strange stuff. I guess you didn't have to repair fences at the feed lot, LOL! Cows are a curious lot. We helped our neighbors with their dairy cattle. They were like big pets, they didn't understand how heavy they were and wanted to play and lean up against you. We used to go out in the middle of the pasture and lay down in the grass. They would just walk up and stare at you. We were never worried about getting stepped on, it just confused the stuff out of the critters. You would finally stand up and they seemed relieved that whatever you were doing was done. They could be frustrating while putting up board fence because they would want to lean over and try to watch what you were doing, pushing against the board. They could be downright endearing though and had distinct personalities. When you lost one it was like a family member. I hope your dad's trailer works out for you. Be safe out there! Y'all need to call up Heavy D Sparks immediately. I think he just picked up a perfect trailer for that bulldozer at a old guys property they were cleaning up. Get Heavy D on the horn and ask his advice. He'll know exactly what to do and he'll probably help you solve your situation very economically. The dude is a problem solver who never leaves a guy hanging.
I am 57. How well you instructed your kid in operating a dozer was awesome. You put tears in my eyes from seeing your live and caring for your son. You made me wish I had kids to teach. The only bad thing was me remembering how nerve racking and soul sucking my father and grandfather were at teaching. I hope you retain your abilities until you have no kids to teach.

When ever you get a chance replace those split rims, they are dangerous, I've heard horror stories on them from my boss back in the 80's of people losing body parts from them failing, he told me of one guy getting his head taken off from one, so yeah there's that.
That’s how I was taught as well at an early age, always check your dozer out and keep er greased and the tracks clean as you can that’s what makes them last as long as they do👍👍
One has to check the air pressure in each tire, when your carrying a d8 around and you've got low air in a tire it can multiply into severe damages to the trailer as you well know. Cheers !

Living on the ranch you need to be careful you don't catch the heavy metal disease. Wind up with too much iron and it all has to have TLC before it'll work. (If it decides to)
Riley did a good job loading and unloading the dozer. Your trailer just couldn’t handle that big load. You’ve got some major damage but you can at least get it back to the yard.
My wife and I Think Riley is a very intelligent boy.He don’t only drive a large truck with a water tank behind it but he can also operate a D9 cat. Yes THAY are ol bud style 1.1/5 nuts and Square primary interior nuts, those are supper low boy 15 inch tires,TimWills tire has all of the parts and tires for that trailer,that trailer is around 1946 maybe,walking beam, , nice thanks BigAl California.

If you could with a paint pen mark each grease point for the boys it would make greasing quicker and easier and quicker and more certain none get missed.

Those tires were so far gone that even with protection they were going. 90K on a trailer designed for 2/3 that weight.

Ya'll are doing it right, you have to teach them when they're young. I believe that people who grow up around farming and ranching have a better work ethic when they grow up. Maypop tires will always let go when you least expect it
Y'all need to call up Heavy D Sparks immediately. I think he just picked up a perfect trailer for that bulldozer at a old guys property they were cleaning up. Get Heavy D on the horn and ask his advice. He'll know exactly what to do and he'll probably help you solve your situation very economically. The dude is a problem solver who never leaves a guy hanging.

I am 57. How well you instructed your kid in operating a dozer was awesome. You put tears in my eyes from seeing your live and caring for your son. You made me wish I had kids to teach. The only bad thing was me remembering how nerve racking and soul sucking my father and grandfather were at teaching. I hope you retain your abilities until you have no kids to teach.

When ever you get a chance replace those split rims, they are dangerous, I've heard horror stories on them from my boss back in the 80's of people losing body parts from them failing, he told me of one guy getting his head taken off from one, so yeah there's that.
To me the deccelerator was always more like a brake than a clutch but he picked it up quick. Great job.
That’s how I was taught as well at an early age, always check your dozer out and keep er greased and the tracks clean as you can that’s what makes them last as long as they do👍👍

One has to check the air pressure in each tire, when your carrying a d8 around and you've got low air in a tire it can multiply into severe damages to the trailer as you well know. Cheers !

Living on the ranch you need to be careful you don't catch the heavy metal disease. Wind up with too much iron and it all has to have TLC before it'll work. (If it decides to)
Riley did a good job loading and unloading the dozer. Your trailer just couldn’t handle that big load. You’ve got some major damage but you can at least get it back to the yard.
My wife and I Think Riley is a very intelligent boy.He don’t only drive a large truck with a water tank behind it but he can also operate a D9 cat. Keep up the good work Riley you will succeed as an adult. Here’s something to remember you know how many young men would like to operate a D9 cat like you operate? quite a few of them. Yes THAY are ol bud style 1.1/5 nuts and Square primary interior nuts, those are supper low boy 15 inch tires,TimWills tire has all of the parts and tires for that trailer,that trailer is around 1946 maybe,walking beam, , nice thanks BigAl California.

Great bunch of boys. And cudo's to you dad for teaching the young one how to drive a dozer. The tire blow out. You got super lucky. Why do I say that? You did not have that dozer chained down. That could of been a lot worse and flipped off the trailer.

If you could with a paint pen mark each grease point for the boys it would make greasing quicker and easier and quicker and more certain none get missed.

Drive the dozer to where you need it. Put old tires down to drive on if you're crossing concrete to minimize scratches,
