  • We have great success both incubating and hatching in GQF incubators. They have great hatch rates from the tabletop GQF Hovabators up to the GQF cabinet incubators and hatchers. We will never use another incubator again. Great quality products, long lasting reliability, great instructions, and service.

    If you guys like this video, check out our newer video where we set up the 1550 Hatcher and 1500 incubator combo. It needs some love. The Hatcher is a must have for the experienced Hatcher as it keeps the bacteria from hatching away from the eggs incubating for higher hatch rates. Thanks for all the views! Sorry haven’t posted much lately will be getting back into it soon.

    Ah I see how having the 1500 and hatcher go hand in hand. having the sportsman takes away that hatching tray in the bottom space. That was the point of me getting the hatcher so the sportsman never got the fuzzies from the chicks when hatched. 🤷🏻‍♂️ I learned something new!

      Yes hatching in a Hatcher keeps the incubator clean from the fuzzies and Bacteria can harm the embryo, especially if the bloom on the egg is damaged.

    Do you know if you can turn the 1502 into a 1500 later on if we decide we want to get that separate cabinet later? As far as I can see, the 1500 professional one just rotates the eggs to a sharper angle than the 1502 because of the missing hatching tray on the bottom.

    Great video, thank you for posting it. I like the idea of using the GQF Thermal Air Hove-bator. I have a question. Why don't you put the incubator on a short table to raise it up with the Hove-bator near eye level? Is there a reason for not putting it on a table?

    • @bestgreenhomestead
      @bestgreenhomestead  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We have been slowly finishing our basement and things are crowded in the room haven’t yet set everything up the way I would like. We haven’t been using the hova-bators lately. Now we have 10 cabinets (incubators and hatchers) and want to set up a long table to hold them all. We have cabinets stacked on top of one another to save space. For sure not our ideal set up yet! 🤣

      Can order online from gqfmfg.com if in USA otherwise Ebay works in Canada and other countries. If just starting I recommend a small hovabator, unless you want to have 288eggs in at a time.

    GQF is overpriced and lagging behind industry, sorry to say. IMHO

    • @bestgreenhomestead
      @bestgreenhomestead  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Overpriced as compared to what? Because only brand of comparable quality we know of is Brinsea and they are near double the price. We have tried other brands and they all have failed, killing more eggs than they hatch. With GQF we have often had 100% hatch rates or often over 90% hard to beat that. You mention lagging behind industry but in my opinion you don’t fix what isn’t broken. They are often using older technology, that is reliable, tried and true, and been working for generations. For us they work well as they offer all replacement parts to be ordered and easily repaired on your own. There is even a local store to us that stocks most of these parts with fast shipping. They are an American company which we like to support rather than overseas we find to be of poor quality, and service. Also we have incubators from them that are near 50 years old and still working like new. I have heard of many people that have GQF models very old running 24/7 365 and still work great. I’m sure there’s “better” out there. But for the homestead scale, these are ideal to us.
      That said I’m open to hear of other brands that others have had good luck with.

      @@bestgreenhomestead yeah the only other incubator I see is the top tier is Brinsea since it has that automatic Humidity option. But even then you can have the GQF and get a humidifier and rig it to do the same thing Brinsea does 🤔 so far I’m liking the GQF from price point compared to Brinsea! GQF is more hands on that’s for sure but once you learn it’s quirks it’s pretty easy to adjust the humidity.

    • @bestgreenhomestead
      @bestgreenhomestead  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@XaViEr3520 yea the Brinsea seems to be about double the price too. On our GQF we have the water reserve system. The reserve bucket up top hose going to tray and the 2 wick pads. Usually no pads for incubating and 1 pad for hatching. With that we have 2 holes open one front one back. But we find it needs to be adjusted during the seasons. Winter the house is more dry so we now are hatching with 2 pads. But adjusting a few times a year is normally all you need. We have wood pellet stove so it is dry heat. Best would be if you have a whole house humidifier installed on your furnace. This way the humidity in house will stay more consistent, and not need adjusting. A dehumidifier needed in the summer where moist. Also helps on heating bill because moist air holds heat, so you want more humidity in winter and remove it in summer. 😄

      @@bestgreenhomestead yeah I noticed in winter I use 1 wicking pad during incubation and 2 for hatching.
      Summers I don’t even use a wicking pad at all the humidity outside is enough!!!
