I've always thought that fruit tree pruning is mysterious. I've seen trees after they were pruned and it never makes sense why some branches were cut and others were left. This video took away the mystery. Now I can see that you just need to follow a few principles and the young tree can develop a good branch system. Thank you very much!

I always appreciate your videos, Mr. Heilig! Thank-you. I especially like the ones where I can hear the birds and other sounds of nature in the background.

I have a couple year old apricot, plum and peach tree. It had quite a bit of new growth in different directions this year and I wasn’t sure what to cut. Now I have a better idea. Thanks.

I enjoy your videos very much but right now I'm having a time with some apple trees all of mine Honeycrisp apple trees have bloomed but the trees that are Granny Smith and Fuji I have not bloomed at all they're just growing right here in zone 7B. However I don't even know if this tree will cross-pollinate with the Honeycrisp I am at a loss

One question that comes to mind is how many hours of chilling time do the trees get in your zone. The chilling requirement of a fruit is the minimum period of cold weather after which a fruit bearing tree will blossom.
For example galas require greater than 400 hrs. of temps below 45 but above 32F. Some require 1,000 hr or more. The varieties you have will pollinate each other. For more info: www.orangepippintrees.com/pollinationchecker.aspx?a=0&v=1127

Gary Heilig I bought them from Stark Brothers and according to their list those trees fit in that particular song we have very cold Winters that go on for months well below 40 degrees the Honeycrisp apple tree bloom to beautifully this year both of them but the Fuji in a Granny Smith just growing beautifully no blossoms as of yet

Both Pink Lady and Granny Smith are late apples. Pink Lady for example will not be ready until mid-October. Also Honeycrisp will pollinate Pink Lady so Pink Lady should also pollinate the HC. As far as blossoms, you should get some by the 3rd year for sure.

Great video, I planted 3 Apricot last year, and they are doing very well. I l am in the Montreal Quebec area. What would be the best time of the year to prune my apricots trees. Thank You

Thanks for the informative videos on pruning. I've a question on pruning a dried tree vs a live plant. Is it always better to go with dried one to get more visibility?

Greetings from Nova Scotia, Canada! Early last spring I acquired a young apricot tree (about 4’) that the nursery acknowledged would need some TLC which I was pleased to provide. It has done well (now almost 6’) and I am quite pleased. My concern is that it currently does not have any knee high lower branches; how might I encourage this lower growth? Would grafting be an option? Take Care!

Do you try to use any of the prunings as new trees?
Very relaxing style, my favourite type of educational, cheers

It could be done, but usually new trees are propagated by budding and the scion wood should be collected during the winter, earlier than you would normally prune. You also need to have rootstocks to graft the buds on.
