Excellent comparison and In depth analysis of the two. Just confirms what I always thought. The equatorial mode is a game changer, and more than makes up for the smaller aperture on the D3. Not to mention the wide angle lense and other functions the dwarf 3 has that the seestar doesn't. Thank you

I have been looking at both of these this past week as winter approaches (the best viewing where I live). I am very much an amateur in the astro area of photography, but I'd like to change that. I live in one of the most light polluted areas of the country, and the results with my cameras have been less than inspiring, so I just haven't put much energy into until now. But I find myself with a lot of time on my hands nowadays, and nothing to affect how I schedule my time, so it feels like the perfect time to jump in, especially considering the relative affordability of equipment right now. I'll likely watch this several times to take it all in, as while I'd love to have both and compare them myself from an amateur's perspective, a recent hurricane has drastically altered my budget and I'll have to choose just one...and I am almost stressed about the decision. This should help considerably. Thank you for what you do.
Your welcome! Thanks for the appreciation and i am glad video was helpful. That is why i spend two weeks imaging 7 nebulas with both telescopes in the same time so i had enough materials for these detailed comparisons so the results will be accurate and will provide good information
Did u decide yet? Ive never done astrophotography or even owned a telescope and i was completely convinced i wanted the s50 but now i dont know 😂. Comments on this video all lean toward the dwarf 3 while others the s50. My brain might explode 🤯
Very detailed comparison 👍🏻 I begun my smart scope jurney with a D2. Then I bought a S50 and sold the D2 because the Seestar produced much better results. Then I headed to a Vepera 2 which caused me to sell the Seestar. In May I heard about the upcoming release of the D3 and jumped on the preordering train. I like the idea of having a small scope for easy taking on trips. The result images seen so far look very promising too. But the continuing delays in shipping estimations finally lead me to the decision to cancel my preorder. For now I stick with my V2 even if it is out for warranty repair currently.
Thanks for the feedback. I wish also dwarflab could deliver faster the telescopes since i just reviewd the dwarf 3 and people would like to be able to get it faster if they order, just noticed they gave a discount on the d3 for preorder might worth checking it out if you still want to buy the d3
Vespera II seems fantastic, from a Seestar S50 oweners perspective like me. Yeah, you pay a premium price, but looks like well worth it, if one is in a position to afford it.
Thanks for your direct comparisons between the two scopes on the same object. I agree with your observations. I was one of the first 1000 purchasers of the Dwarf III in May and received it last month. I haven't had a chance to use it much so far, but from the images I have been getting, it is much much better than the Dwarf II. The images from the Dwarf II always seemed noisy and took lots of stacked images to start getting a reasonable image. I never used the Dwarf II much. The Dwarf III gave me a clean, smooth, much less noisy image from the start and continued to improve as it stacked. I also have the Seestar S50 and the Vaonis Vespera II and the Unistellar Equinox. I didn't use the Equinox that night and see it as more of an electronically assisted astronomy scope than an imaging scope. Their addition of Deep Dark Technology DDT which enhanced contrast made exposures worse by causing circular artifacts in the images and it still hasn't been fixed. The Vespera II, which is an f5 scope, took longer to build an image, and ran out of memory early. I didn't have a laptop nearby to download the images, so it was done for the night. The Seestar S50 was imaging the Bubble Nebula, and the Dwarf III was in equatorial mode imaging the the Andromeda galaxy. Over the same duration imaging that night, I was most impressed with the Dwarf III capture because it stacked almost every image captured. The Seestar S50 rejected a large number of the images and still looked rough by the end of the imaging session. Just from the scope, the Andromeda galaxy showed lots of detail in the spiral arms with the entire image being evenly exposed. I agree with your observations between the two scopes too and am glad you did this comparison.
Hello. Thanks for the detailed feedback. I see you have many smart telescopes. Have you have time to process and compare dwarf3 iamges with the other 2 telescopes more expensive like vespera ii?
Great video! Thank you very much for this very detailed comparison! By the way, did you know that the Seestar S50 can be use in EQ mode? Thanks for this great video! I own a D2 and am waiting for the D3, so I am happy with the quality of the Dwarf's images :-) To be honest, though, the better resolution of the S50 remains a strong point for the ZWO smart telescope.. I hope for a future S60 or S70, so the difference in use with the D3 will be even more obvious: one for wide fields and one for smaller objects.
Your welcome, i am glad you enjoyed the video. Because of the dwarf 3 i think zwo needs to come up with larger aperture telescope like an 80 mm or more that can so also planetary to be able to get again on top
@@GalaxyArtMedia I said 60 or 70 because I'm just afraid that 80mm aperture would lead to excessive length and weight, to the detriment of portability (and cost 😅). If they can do it, great! 💫💫
I was put off by the star shapes despite the marketing saying they had improved the optics - good to know it was a known issue with pinched optics of first units.
Thanks for feedback. I can notice a larger stars and whwn zoomed to 100, but curently i can corect them in post processing using blur xterminator and ends up being perfect after that
Would be nice if the platform or application would allow "co-op" mode. Example. Would be amazing if me having clear skies in Cape Town, South Africa able to grab shots of different areas on different nights (almost like mapping it from my co-ordinates). Then somehow sharing it via platform or maybe a friends group, as other people on different side of the world that also has night would have other angles and different view.

That is normal. you can not get the same image quality with dwarf 2, sensor is not as good, smaller aperture and smaller focal length, let s say you have enough itnegration for an iamge with dwarf 3 you can take 1 million frames with dwarf2 and still not match it

@@GalaxyArtMedia I said 60 or 70 because I'm just afraid that 80mm aperture would lead to excessive length and weight, to the detriment of portability (and cost 😅). If they can do it, great! 💫💫
@@FabioPegli From 70 mm could give also some decent planetary views with a good quality high magnification barlow
Will see s30 tomorrow
Interesting
how is the mosaic mode of the s50 vs the dwarf 3?
Is still in beta testing, so probaliy we will ahve msoaic mode on both telescopes this year, mosaic mdoe will not be abler tog et same quality in same amount of time with wider fov maybe 3x times less integration on all image
Great work as always! Thanks a lot!
Thank you too! Cheers!
Thanks for the nice comparison video.
Your welcome 😊 Cheers!
please send any discount codes , i want to buy Dwarf 3.
I will ask if i can recive one
I have dwarf 2 and have imaged the cave nebula over 3 days total subs 1500 came out better than expected but not as good as your dwarf 3 images
That is normal. you can not get the same image quality with dwarf 2, sensor is not as good, smaller aperture and smaller focal length, let s say you have enough itnegration for an iamge with dwarf 3 you can take 1 million frames with dwarf2 and still not match it
what is "Gain" on camera ?
Is like iso on dslr it makes the inage brigher but introduces more noise, grain
With no lens warmer how do you prevent lens fog in the dwarf 3?
The optical tube emnates the hit it has also a heat sinc that was enough even on nights with a lot of moisture and humidity, no dew problems in all the tests i ahve made so far
Dwarf 3 is not in market. Can't be bought anywhere. New Seestar will be out before Dwarf 3
Dwarf 3 can be preordered from dwarflab website. Preorders of new seestars s30 will begin in november probaly will arrive at customors next year but will see from november 1 the info
but new seestar is worst
If mine would be here already 😢🎉
Hope you will get it soon
D 3 is thr winner _ seastar cant even point to zenith
I heard about that, could be also an incovinience
You gave the Dwarf an unfair advantage by using an EQ mount. Should have used the mount it comes with out of the box..
The Dwarf3 is normaly used in eqmode long long exposures is very fair. And it has an eqmode dedicated polar alignment feature
@ Disagree completely. It *can* be used in EQ mode but not out of the box..that’s all I argued. Not an apples to apples comparison. The spec sheet alone tells the whole story. lol..
@@DouglasLippert When i review a telescope i usualy use the best settings, or modes, and for d3 was eq mode, but don t worry it does do great also in alt azimuth mode
Seestar you can EQ mount and no field rotation
Use eqmode on your own risc
Works perfectly fine and lots of Seestar owners are using eq and works fine with no problems. No field rotation
@@dennisrogers6786 It works untill it does not. I talked with zwo about it and they said not to use it in eq mode because the motors are not made to handle the weight of telescope only in azimuth, as i mention they do it on their own risck, and i will not advice anyone to use the telescope the wrong way like others did
😀
🔭👍
And also not a fairly compared as you should have both in Alt Alz mode and fail to mention you can EQ mount the Seestar
No eq mode.
Well to be fairer you should have used the D3 in Alt alz mode. Heaps of owners setting up seestar as an eq mounted scope.
Remember D2 was never meant to be eq mounted and now is common
Seen another comparing and while he said was close, the Seestar still had the advantage, you most likely get a cut from sales, or free stuff so of course will slant your reviews, but both are very close
Who compared? Mine is the only in depth review comparison on youtube, And regarding eqmode, s50 does not support Eqmode so ask zwo about it , if use s50 in eqmode you can loose waranty of telescope and it can get damaged also
