Okay, so let me get this straight... When a band doesn't make it big time, everyone thinks that they're amazing and that they deserve to be famous, but when a band DOES get signed to a major label, they're sellouts? I hate that other bands always have to get involved in the comments of OTHER bands' videos. I love the Dead Kennedys and I love Green Day. I've seen them both in concert and they're fucking amazing musicians.
@VONerSHUCK I am also 45 and like you I love this music and find it culturally and politically as relevent today as it ever was. I saw the DK in glasgow aroung 1980 and have grown to like them more... I'm so old I saw the sex pistols play..but I was admittedly only 13 years old at the time.
I grew up in Sterling Heights Michigan. One of the bigger punk scene's in USA. We have had many groups sing about the Sterling Skins. We have hung out with many big names in punk. I agree the punk scene was about reform and UNITY and ideas, there was a GOOD majority that were lazy, druged out, and dirty. Although there were ALOT that did stay clean and free of drugs, there were alot that were working and clean. I my self was a bit younger then most so i was looked after.
@darkwattie227 Stick to it. I grew up watching The Offspring play in garages or at house parties back in the day, and now they are huge. Punk lives forever!
20 years ago I got sent home from school from wearing a DK shirt(In god we trust inc.) Now middle-aged I call Alaska home and still hold true to the same beliefs. PUNK ROCK RULES!!!!
@LeslieRichardGrove I love EVERY Green Day album, any song, you name it,but most of the songs in AI and 21stcenturybreakdown weren't my type,I like greenday, alot, but I just wanted to put my two-cents in....BTW I like the other artists you mentioned ;p
@Seraphimal First, *Billie Joe *hysterical (I assume this because the word heretical has nothing to do with what we're talking about). Second, what...? I wouldn't say they're both on the same level, but I think they're both awesome and amazingly talented on numerous levels.
I thank punk, why 'cause without it there'd be no thrash metal without it and it also sounds really good why the fuck would I be here if I didn't like it.
@Raylot13. Of the bands I did not see, that I wish i did see. The Ramones,The Saints,Minor Threat and The Germs are right up there. I have seen just about every band you could think of though. Even the Pistols & The Clash.
@Sitch27 Attention. In september last year I went to a gig here in Geneva (Switzerland) to see Jello Biafra and the guantamo school of medicine. Well guess what, the ticket price was only around 20 bucks. I don't think that Mr. Biafra is all about money...
@halzar They made a concept album. They made it a play. Don't tell me that if you were good at something, you wouldn't make it big, make everyone know about your talent. You wouldn't sit and die without being acknowledged for a gift, or for a project you've done. Maybe that album was just Alternative, but at least up until Nimrod they were pretty Punk to me.
I totally agree on. Well said. Punk is an alternative solution, an answer to the world divided by many things, is about not striding in a place in our cramped cages that we've built with limits and divisions, that are artificial, not true; it's about thinking outside the box, seeing the world as a whole...
You're probably speaking a language that a lot of people don't understand. You got a few thumbs up, but speaking in simple terms is the best way to tell people who aren't that familiar with something about it.You'll only confuse them and make them mad.
@MarsionLove Actually back when guitar hero was good (Ie when harmonix was making it) several members of the harmonix staff were musicians that wrote many good songs that were used in the games nothing as good as this of course but just felt like bringing that up
That's true. I used to be the kind of person that went nuts over Guitar Hero and Rock band, and I mean, while I do think it's uber lame, I do appreciate that it introduced kids to lesser known music. I agree with what you're saying. But at the same time I agree that it's not real guitar or anything like playing in a real band. The opinions are not exclusive. Peace out, man.
i have dave grohls biography to thank for my discovery of REAL punk. dead kennedys, bad brains and minor threat are amazing bands. im always looking for new stuff to listen to when it REALLY i should be listening to older stuff like these guys. my friends all enjoy NEW punk and NONE of that would have been able to happen if there werent bands like this. we should spread the word and prove punks not dead i wish i wAs around to see these awesome bands live.just 20 years to late i guess '99 SUCKED
When I used to sk8 in the late 80's- early 90's this was the shit, alot of skinheads around too ,hip hop hadn't hit the scene yet, those were the good old days.....
@MrSelfHater You're right. I do think they're a great band, hence my comments defending them. I have begun to feel that it's useless defending bands. Like Green Day, my music taste/understanding has matured. I used to be exactly like a lot of these people; I hated Green Day, Blink-182, Linkin Park(still sorta do), etc. But I decided to stop and grow up. I'll always think they're punk for what they did and there's no changing your opinion on that.
sellouts are people who bust out their freinds and family to make it to the big time.....if a punk band makes it to the big time then more thanks to em.......this day an age i hope punk bands make it to the top becuse its about time we punks had our say like we used to.....i mean hell im in a punk band and we dont see ourselves getting any more large than we already are becuse i dont care about fame i care about playin good music with good freinds
yea i know but without guitar hero some people wouldnt know about dead kennedys my friend told me about them but still it has done some good but you're right i guess it matters
@darkwattie227 as Henry Rollins said (not in his exact words, but you get the idea).. selling out isn't getting rich off your own music, if you can, you earned it.. Selling out is when you play the music you're told to make by the record companies for the sake of success.
@canuckleful No one ever said that the definition of a punk is being rich and having a nice life... That has absolutely nothing to do with it, actually. Also, when somebody says that they're punk, you can't automatically label them as a poser/sellout/etc. I'm pretty sure Green Day used to be just like that when they were younger, but they learned. I've met East Bay Ray and I've met Billie Joe. They're both awesome and they're both punk rock.
@halzar I understand. I wouldn't agree with the whole "mainstream bands can't be punk". I honestly think it sucks when bands don't try and change anything. They become static and I don't think that's punk. It's very hard to define what's punk, so I try to avoid doing so. Punk can pertain to the music, the lifestyle, etc, so it's difficult to classify. I think that Green Day was punk then, but they're 40 now with families. I'm not saying they're not punk anymore, but you need to draw a line.
@pdalegrim187 I think Punk was a genre just like other genres. What made them punk is the sound since music is about sound....I could put punk lyrics into a Grunge song and it would be label'd Grunge.
Punk can be Old-school (Sex Pistols/Ramones). Punk can be Hardcore (Dead Kennedies/Exploited). Punk can be Horror (Misfits). Punk can be Pop Punk (Buzzcocks). Punk can be many things. But there are 2 things punk is not. 1. Dead 2. Sellout. PUNK'S NOT DEAD!!! And may it never sellout.
@butterseure What appalls me is that the US is fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan, when all of the occurrences you mentioned aren't being touched (not just by the US, but other countries as well). All "we" care about is oil..
@pdalegrim187 In fact, Punk did make an impact on mainstream music. It was anti-establishment and overall rebellious. Yes, each band had their own ideals and agenda (not like today), but overall, it was something the youth really could cling on to. It wasn't their parent's music, but something unrefined. This left music to be open ended and rejected the mainstream, which is why Punk has deceased....because more and more punk bands are turning out pop crap on the mainstream network.
@mussman717word oh my god they didn't conform their sound. They may not have evolved to your liking, but that doesn't mean that they're conforming their sound. Their music, to them, is what they are going through/witnessing in the 21st century. Back then, they were young and wrote about girls, drugs, etc. Well, now they're writing about problems they're facing NOW.
punk is not giving a shit what others say about your music ,your clothes ,your ideas and your life. You do what you think is right.that's what punk is and nothing about the shit every poser says.
I'm afraid I don't know what you mean. I mean left as in favouring (in theory, if not in practice - certainly this is true of Pol Pot) economic equality.
My tiny hand is swinging to the tune. Great song guys
I love the bassline this song opens with. Perfect setup.
The most politically aware (not to mention sarcastic) band of the original American hardcore punk bands of the 80s. They were great live too.
This song makes me think alot. It's so great! I realize much about money when I hear this song.
Thank you for posting the proper version of this song. You rock!
One of BEST punk bands ever
parece que a legião urbana fez Que país é este com o início dessa música.
one of the greatest bands ever! ... no! the greatest band ever!!!!!
Lucky. I don't have any memory of when I first heard their music, but I heard stories of trying to sing along to "Police Truck" when I was a baby.

Okay, so let me get this straight... Dear "Dead Kennedys" i'm sorry for not discovering you earlier. You are amazing.
Yeah, people bash guitar hero but it introduces the younger generations to great music such as this. :)
Ahhhh, the memories. Saw DK's in the 80's. Jello was a trip, great show though.
I picked up this LP at an op shop for a few bucks. awesome.
esta banda es una leyenda la vi en rock al parque colombia 2011

@VONerSHUCK I am also 45 and like you I love this music and find it culturally and politically as relevent today as it ever was. I saw the DK in glasgow aroung 1980 and have grown to like them more... I'm so old I saw the sex pistols play..but I was admittedly only 13 years old at the time.
One word,
BRILLIANT!!!!!
I grew up in Sterling Heights Michigan. One of the bigger punk scene's in USA. We have had many groups sing about the Sterling Skins. We have hung out with many big names in punk. the intro has the coolest bass line ever
actully lost a high top chuck and leather belt to ny harley cycle queen at this show in 79
!!! Now THATS a show! lol
@darkwattie227 Stick to it. I grew up watching The Offspring play in garages or at house parties back in the day, and now they are huge. Punk lives forever!
we went to see one of his "lectures" in manchester and my Brother shouted out "Hoi, do you love your country" and he stopped then said "in my own way"
Left/right, there's no description anymore these days...
i agree with you're post tho, nonetheless!
@AssassinJ2 Just to help you sort out types of punx. Exploited is UK82 and DK is USHC.
dk's will live forever.. real music here.
@AssassinJ2 It's funny that all the bands you mentioned were formed in the 70's.
20 years ago I got sent home from school from wearing a DK shirt(In god we trust inc.) Now middle-aged I call Alaska home and still hold true to the same beliefs. PUNK ROCK RULES!!!!
Thumbs up. Seriously, I need them.
@LeslieRichardGrove I love EVERY Green Day album, any song, you name it,but most of the songs in AI and 21stcenturybreakdown weren't my type,I like greenday, alot, but I just wanted to put my two-cents in....BTW I like the other artists you mentioned ;p
I forgot how badass this band was.
This is my favourite Song.
Oh man.... Pogo tanzen im Bad in Hannover....what a great time!
@Seraphimal First, *Billie Joe *hysterical (I assume this because the word heretical has nothing to do with what we're talking about). Second, what...? I wouldn't say they're both on the same level, but I think they're both awesome and amazingly talented on numerous levels.
@1rd2th3st A solid point, you're right. But I think you agree that TODAY, non-punks shouldn't be fooled into believing 21st century brakedown is punk.
I thank punk, why 'cause without it there'd be no thrash metal without it and it also sounds really good why the fuck would I be here if I didn't like it.
Dead Kennedys: Masters of american hardcore
@Raylot13. Of the bands I did not see, that I wish i did see. The Ramones,The Saints,Minor Threat and The Germs are right up there. I have seen just about every band you could think of though. Even the Pistols & The Clash.
Excellent intro...
damn, this is GOOD music. Just like the Misfits and the Ramones.
I've never liked punk, Metal forever, but I like this.
nifty stuff..! super super super.
Hooray for making sense!
@Sitch27 Attention. In september last year I went to a gig here in Geneva (Switzerland) to see Jello Biafra and the guantamo school of medicine. Well guess what, the ticket price was only around 20 bucks. I don't think that Mr. Biafra is all about money...
I heard first at this very moment in time. What GH is it on?
awsome song
I concur...too many people miss out on a lot of really good music by limiting their tastes to genres
@halzar They made a concept album. They made it a play. Don't tell me that if you were good at something, you wouldn't make it big, make everyone know about your talent. "Like" for the The Dead Milkmen section in the record store being right beside The Dead Kennedys
You're probably speaking a language that a lot of people don't understand. You got a few thumbs up, but speaking in simple terms is the best way to tell people who aren't that familiar with something about it.You'll only confuse them and make them mad.
@butobuto1 My argument is that punk isn't all the same so it can't be one dead on mind set. Not all punk is about being a pissed off rebellion.
What, you need, my son- good line.
@Powerslave144 No, this song is from The Dead Kennedeys! LOL
@MarsionLove Actually back when guitar hero was good (Ie when harmonix was making it) several members of the harmonix staff were musicians that wrote many good songs that were used in the games
nothing as good as this of course but just felt like bringing that up

PORQUE NO MANDAN LOS ENLACES CON LA FOTO DE LA BAMDA?

@xMrReservoirDogsx i think it died in 2002 when AFI released the 336 EP . . .
great version. Sounds bit different from original lp version- drums great
@killerkirbydude afghanistan has a resource: Lithium! It is necessary for accumulator-batteries or in general "accus".
@AssassinJ2 GREAT 100X THUMBS UP MATE!!!! it all began in U.K! PUNK STARTED IN U.K!
sellouts are people who bust out their freinds and family to make it to the big time.....if a punk band makes it to the big time then more thanks to em.......this day an age i hope punk bands make it to the top becuse its about time we punks had our say like we used to.....i mean hell im in a punk band and we dont see ourselves getting any more large than we already are becuse i dont care about fame i care about playin good music with good freinds
When you feel good, you remember your teenage, and that fucking VEVO ruins everything.
the repetition of "Pol... Pot" kinda reminds me of the ramones saying "gabba gabba hey!"
yea i know but without guitar hero some people wouldnt know about dead kennedys my friend told me about them but still it has done some good but you're right i guess it matters

@lastoftheAZNGIRLS Thank you! Very well said.
Anyone who beat him at backgammon got his head skewered on a stake.
@lastoftheAZNGIRLS
Lyrics aside, the production is totally geared toward mass approval, fact. I'm dropping this now. Bye.
@rellik187redrum i still skate to this. nothing like punk rock to thrash your wood around!!
the intro would make a good song for an apocolypse movie
@pdalegrim187 I think Punk was a genre just like other genres. What made them punk is the sound since music is about sound....I could put punk lyrics into a Grunge song and it would be label'd Grunge.

@kbinco
Have you seen the Germs?
@MrDakotaheer i wear an oxford and tie to school everyday and i like punk rock.
@darkwattie227 well said mate. i'm 46 and i lived, ate and shit the punk scene and always will. great times when nothing else mattered.
@pdalegrim187 In fact, Punk did make an impact on mainstream music. It was anti-establishment and overall rebellious. And for some bonus obscurity points, check out Rudimentary Peni.
@MrFlopz i totaly agree with u i lk there old stuff bt there new stuff is kinda pop punk i dont lk there new stuff so much love the old stuff bt
The Sword kicks as, if you're talking about the metal group.
They created it, and then basterdized it at the same time. The Dead Kennedys restored the meaning of punk.
i can't help it i'm dutch :P but i already loved rock b4 playing gh lol
I'm afraid I don't know what you mean. I mean left as in favouring (in theory, if not in practice - certainly this is true of Pol Pot) economic equality.
@AssassinJ2 - and according to your list, punk is also not new or vibrant - all the punks on your list are in their 60's now right?
