Tabs for the Abbey Road solo in annotations
Here is my cover of Knights of Cydonia, the first Muse song I ever listened to. Here I do the Abbey Road solo, which I think should've been in the original song.
I'm debuting my new direct-in recording interface: the M-Audio Fast Track. The quality is improved so much, I absolutely love it. Sorry for not having the fingerboard in the camera very often, I can't check the camera angle on my camera, so... that's why.
Gear:
Amp: Line 6 Spider III 75W (Custom Presets A1: High Gain, A3: Muse Crunch, and A4: Bellamy Fuzz)
-FBV Shortboard MKII foot pedal (can change amp presets, wah, volume, and other cool stuff)
For the Close Encounters intro, I used Sweep Echo and Reverb on a Fuzz preset meant to imitate Matt Bellamy's.
Manson Replica
Digitech Whammy IV - this is what my MIDI X-Y was hooked up to
Digitech Bad Monkey (not used in this video)
ZVex Fuzz Factory (not used in this video)
Kaoss Pad KP-2 (not used in this video)
Home-made True-Bypass switcher
M-Audio Fast Track Recording Interface
I want to settle this, if that's all right with you.
You said, "this guy can afford this guitar, yet he still makes mistakes on a relatively easy song." Sure I could've used the money for lessons, or a better amp, or whatever. But Muse was my passion at the time, it's what brought me to the guitar every day to practice even though I was swamped by piano practice and homework. I never said my playing was perfect. But by doing covers, I try to get better, with the guitar of my idol.
Phi Lam Music wise words
Words! Go on. Im enjoy this cover. Great.
You did great bro don’t even trip bout them
Music is not a meritocracy
People will always criticise you if you have something they don’t, and they wont ever have what you have cuz while they were criticising they could be working hard for ir
For fuck sake, leave the god damn kid alone. He likes playing guitar, who care what amount of money has been spent and by who ? You guys should consider stepping out a minute, breathe some fresh air and calm the fuck down.
As for the guy who made this video, thanks dude, I like to learn by watching covers of the songs, and it happens that you nailed this song ! Don't give the haters the attention they're seeking for.
I agree with you 100%
G É H E N N E look at 0:45 it isnt even a Manson lol...
Yeah he just put an XY MIDI controller in it and a double coil Manson knuckle pickup
Nino That might be why he calls it a replica in the title, just a thought though 😉
Yeah and hes actually doing something nice. Its weird... everybody complains that kids these days dont go outside, only hug their phone/pc and fail to do a craft... This Kid plays an instrument and that pretty well. I bet most of those keyboard warriors cant do that.
95% of the comments: “Why has this got so much hate?”
5% of the comments: *The hate that I can’t see cause it’s at the bottom*
IMO, anyone who works that hard to be so kickass at guitar deserves to have a kickass guitar.
Jesus, why is everyone so butthurt at how much this guitar cost? Who gives a shit! So the kid's parents probably have money, good for them! Big fuckin deal that he has an expensive setup. If I worked and saved up for a little while to buy this shit and then uploaded it to youtube, I'm sure everyone would say the same thing
It's not even a real Manson its a replica people don't even read titles XD
That looks like a nice chair :)
*****I was going to say something about the "headless guitarist"...your comment will suffice. =P
Screw the chair. Look at that red bottle-like container thing. I want that.
Screw both of those look at that photo in the top right
You guys are nuts, focusing on all the wrong things..
Have a gander at the detail in those floral patterns on the dresser!
Umm, walls are also nice...😕
youtube algorithm has brought me back 9 years later to this. good algorithm.
Ivor Yong
This song and band never gets old
You from the future or something, it says 8 bro
Or maybe just math
Ssatisfyy YT THATS what I was thinking lmao
Fuc the lady album from muse
I can’t seem to find this hate everyone’s talking about
Those are old comments mate, you'll have to scroll a tpn, there was a lot of shit under this video in 2016.
I think old comments got buried when they changed to Google+ etc, all old TH-cam comments older than 7-8 years seem to just be banished to oblivion and never seem to have any likes
why is there so much hate?! this guys great
me I knows right? This is fantastic!.
Welcome to 21 century when everything got hated
because people by nature are generally jealous and fickle. A great job.
why is there a tv on your guitar?
(Assuming it wasn't sarcastic) it's a Kaoss Pad midi controller
made my day
+Hamzah Abdurrahman wow that's so funny
Is this not what you young folk call the "Telecaster"?
Sasis321 I lol'd
30 seconds in and that’s all I needed to hear. Well done, young man. You nailed it. Ignore the jealousy.
12 ans..et j'ai toujours le même plaisir, les même frissons à écouter ce cover ÉPOUSTOUFLANT ❤❤
lmao people saying its easy to play with that guitar... I never knew that songs were easier to play on different guitars.. other than scaling and fret width that is... does an expensive guitar play notes that u miss for u? I remember playing sidewinder by a7x on an acoustic that was the size of a ukulele that was $5. I mean i get sound wise yea, probably easier to achieve the correct sound but I didn't know an expensive guitar would actually help you play better. xD I'm a fkin noob.
awesome cover BTW. fk these a-holes that are obviously just jealous u have a guitar they can't afford. hahahahaha
ikr lol
+Von Christian Vanta Better guitars actually do make you play better, go to a guitar center and play a cheap guitar and then play a fancy high quality guitar. There are many factors affecting play-ability. Sound is everything, why would you ever dismiss that? There are guitars way better then him who cannot sound this good because they do not have the equipment. An artist is only as good as his tools to a certain extent.
Incorrect on your last point, its just an excuse you use to make yourself feel better.
Von Christian Vanta a7x cool band
Von Vanta what they mean is that guitar has a ton of sustain. Like ridiculous amounts of sustain. The notes just go on forever, with little effort. That’s because it has a special neck pickup designed to do that.
So yeah, it is easier to play songs like this, on guitars like that. And it would be harder to play this song on a regular guitar. It just wouldn’t sound as good
Whats up with everyone stating that his parents were rich??? I'm sure he worked and earned that guitar just like he worked on learning this song. Its not hard to save up for something nice if you work hard???
If he has enough money to buy that guitar, why shouldn't he?
Don't act like you wouldn't.
I would buy it in a hot second if I could because it's sexy af.
I wouldn't... I don't even like real Mansons, let alone a copy.
Parker Bilbro well okay but that's a preference.
I bet there are expensive guitars you'd like to have.
That's not a very expensive guitar either lol... it's not a Manson.
Parker Bilbro yeah but that wasn't my point Jesus.
My point was that a lot of people who claim that this is too expensive and and writing hate comments because of that are just jealous and would by their dream guitar too if they could.
That's all I was saying, got it?
Haven’t you realized that most people are douche bags?
You're right, it would work well for some instrumental, looking back. At the time I was in the mentality of fairly accurate covers, not willing to break the mold like I hope to do now.
Money does not harbor creative spirit or skill, and this is the perfect example of it. There are guitarists way more talented than me that will make great improv with regular guitars. Anyway, I appreciate your criticism.
I used a Canon digital camera for this one, but now I use a Nikon Coolpix.
One of the best guitar solos ever. Come on!
Nick Magee - Brown How can something so simple and easy looking be so fucking epic? This song is proof guitar solos don't have to be hard and fast to be fuckin' kickass.
As a Muse big fan, NOT EVEN CLOSE
kellustzall May not be one of Muse’s best but it is arguably one of their most iconic. Hell I only started listening to Muse around 2 and a half years ago. Before that I could’ve told you that Knight’s is a Muse song but could not have named it. Only songs I could’ve named were Uprising and Hysteria
Licks at 5:45 absolutely killer. Fantastic cover and excellent playing. You really captured Matt's playing with your own twist
Saw this video when I was like 12 now 21, still one of the coolest guitars I’ve ever seen
Fucking amazing bastard bloody hell cover, this guy imitate perfectly the song, just like the Wembley concert
Plateu Manson no fucking way
still easily one of my most favourite covers of any song ever, it's been a few years since I first saw this video
I like that TH-cam recognised this as a "Live at Madrid" version when Matt shouts "Come on England!!!" at 4:35
Love the bit of improv at the end
Everyones calling him rich when its not even a fucking manson it clearly says in the title "REPLICA" he probably spend a good few hundred bucks on this maybe even a thousand idk but he most likely added the pad and other things himself. Not really a hard build if you think about it. Good cover though messed up a few parts but it was pretty good to be fair! :D
Nemesis Ryu thank you
I don't get why everyone gives a crap about his guitar, so what if it was expensive, if I played the guitar (I really like watching covers of my favorite band), and if I was dedicated enough to it as this guy, I would probably drop a couple grand on a nice one like that, but, there's a lot of people in the world that don't like it when a kid has a nicer thing then them. But you don't need to take it out on him when he did a great cover, so what if he likes Matt belemy's (excuse my spelling) guitar, that's his choice, so stop being jealous and go get your own if you care so much.
*cough* jealous *cough*
Aye!
+sasafraz150 Well shit, I'm an intermediate player and I just bought a PRS custom 24 with my quarterly bonuses for the year. I've had quite a few people be total asshats and tell me I'm a corksniffer. What they fail to understand is that I bought the guitar for myself, to own a fantastic instrument that I regard as a piece of art. Some people can't ever just be happy for anyone else. Gotta project their insecurities.
Bdmason10 thank you for saying something reasonable. So true.
Deceased User - RIP In Peace. Right?? Congrats on your new guitar! That's great 😄
I watch so many covers but i always come back to your covers theyre SO good
Man, that is some good playing right there. And I especially love how he puts the live music in the background so we can go along with the song. Best cover video i have seen so far, Good Job dude.
Many years later, still one of the best covers I ever heard. Rock on dude.
I came here to watch a guy play guitar and al i read is a bunch of bitter little whiners complaining because they're jealous of a guy who is richer and more talented than they are. keep showing how petty you are guys *laughs*
His guitar basically has infinite sustain, this song is easy as fuck there's no talent in this video
@@kegangardner2277 oh fuck off
Exus I mean he’s got a point, I mean no talent is extreme, but muse is easy what makes them so good is the fact of what they actually came up with not the difficulty simple Is good complex isn’t always the way to go so yeah covering something easy rather than making it doesn’t take much talent
@@koalabeararmy3543 I mean, there's simple parts in a lot of their songs, I might even go far enough to say that most parts of their songs are easy, but I still say that parts of Unnatural Selection, Hysteria, and at least a few other songs are not that simple, I think it's just a lot of their "popular" songs, a.k.a., the ones most people who know who Muse is has heard, not the people who have gone through and listened to a lot of their music, have simpler basslines and guitar riffs and all
Btw, I've played both the bass and guitar for, I think, 10+ Muse songs, I know that isn't really much considering the amount of music that they've produced, but it's mainly been while watching the rocksmith videos for said songs, and I've honestly improved a good bit just from that, even my sight reading, I've gotten to where I can play some songs nearly perfectly even if I've never played it before, or it's been a long time
Kegan Gardner fuck off tosser, play hysteria on fucking bass you twat
I came here just to hear the beginning of the song and couldn't stop watching. Awesome!
Well, the electronics all serve a purpose: to push the guitar sound in a direction not commonly followed. I haven't pioneered it because I'm not the first to use a sustainer, but I enjoy the different ways I can manipulate the sound through the guitar shape.
As for the finish, it's new, it's flashy, and it costs just as much as any high-quality guitar out there, if not less.
Thank you so much!
The XY Pad is a total custom option. I bought it separately from a Muse fan in the UK that was experienced in programming. It sends MIDI signals and anything that can read it; in this case, I sent the programs to a DigiTech Whammy IV.
Wow, I didn't expect to find so much hate on the comments. Even though he needs to work on his rythm (common guitarist issue) he's a great guitarist. And the whole midi controller screen is awesome. It takes balls to try a new thing on your set up and regardless of the price you still have to spend hours learning and mastering the use of your devices. Great job!
Jesus Christ this is absolutely killer, loved every second of it
Did you even bother watching the whole thing? I have improvisations not present in the original track.
I love this so much. Amazing cover dude, and fucking beautiful guitar as well! 🤘🤘🤘
Pwoper Bandom Trash you could call the guitar a cover as well
I dont see this hate that everyone is talking about but i know 2 things: 1. I wish i could play guitar 2. I wish i could play this song like you do.
this is just my favourite muse cover EVER and by the amount of views and likes that this video has, i'm sure a lot of people agree that this is great, with the way you're playing almost exactly like the live version and with so similar effects, so even though i'm 7 years late, i just wanted to point out how good of a cover this is and the people who think they know better and come here to criticise even though they never touched a guitar before in their lives, need to be just irrelevant. I don't know what you do now Phi, but i'm sure you were way better than this critics suggested at the time i'm sure you're even better now. Great work!
Great cover, it highlights how amazing Matt is cause he does all this whilst singing so great and dancing
Phil lam if he made a few mistakes who gives a duck
He done a great cover
At least he had the balls
Stop hating and start appreciating
Good job mate, ignore haters...
OMG, Red Glitter!!!! It was one of Matt's favourite guitars)
Great cover!
I can't imagine how you must feel playing that and sounding so awesome. Great job man.
Matt would probably like this.
Duuuuuuddddeeeeee... WHERE DID YOU GET THAT GUITAR
it's not a manson, watch ! 0:47
Yeah this was before I realized it was a replica
You can get a Cort replica with Manson pick ups, great guitar
I was thinking about buying a Cort. I've heard great things about it. Everyone's going wild about it for the price of $600.
Mr.Sand-Oval trust me it is definitely worth it, I've recently had a Z-Vex Fuzz factory installed on mine. ITS BLOODY FANTASTIC!
I've just stumbled across this video and WTF is it with people? I've been learning like 2 weeks and have to right to claim to title of cr4p but regardless surely everyone who attempts to play this instrument (or any for that matter) should be encouraged. Gees I imagine even Matt Bellamy makes mistakes! Phil well done fella, awesome and love the guitar. I live in Somerset literally an hours drive from Mansons and bought my first guitar there; great shop and brilliant service. Even though I have only been learning 2 weeks, I am already super tempted to put down a deposit for the new Matt Bellamy signature range; not half the tech of yours but still looks cool, has Matt's endorsement and is something to maybe motivate me to think one day I'll be able to play Muse songs as well as you. I have also seen Muse 3 times and I find because they started out a guitar band, many think they shouldn't try new things. This is what makes them so cool and again the negativity towards tech advancement is pathetic. If I had the chance to own a guitar like this and try and emulate my muses (pun intended), then I would. Matt is very talented and very forward looking and long may it continue; neither he nor Dom and Chris let the guitar define their sound and it keeps them from going stale. Anyways, keep up the good work Phil and ignore the knobs that seem to be so prevalent in our world today. If I get a 10th as good as you, then I'll be happy. As for the comments about his parents buying stuff; why wouldn't they? I have 2 kids and if one wanted to learn guitar, I would do EVERYTHING I could to encourage it; it's called being a parent and bein supportive.
This is live in Wembley '07! Well done btw:D
i dont care what anyone said, whenever i wanna see a kickass muse cover, i know who to search (which is this guy) since 7 years ago and till now.
Loving the dresser!
I found this years ago and I keep coming back to it, I like it as much as the original song (if not more).
What an absolute banger.
You're really talented!!! Awesome use of the Midi pad as well!
Idk if I heard right but I think it’s a different solo at the end. It sounds somewhat different than what’s played in the original video but honestly it doesn’t sound bad at all. It’s pretty good IMO. Amazing guitar too. Good shit my guy! Keep it up👍🏻
I'm colorblind but I'm pretty sure your guitar is pink AND covered in glitter. I.. no words.. I fucking love you.
You're not that far off!! It's red with what looks like white spray paint effect, that is the "sparkles" you are talking about. Very accurate guess you had!
Tony doesn’t know what red looks like bro
those outro riffs were incredible!
when mum walks in not realising
that high gain actually sounds pretty good from that line 6. Great cover, and a spot-on recreation of Matt's tone! great track, man!
Hear that? That's the sound of money, kids.
No joke -- I ordered mine a while ago, $2400!
how so>
hear that? his D string is slightly out of tune
I would never pay that much for that, it's one of the ugliest guitars in my opinion
Wow, really? I think it looks amazing..especially with the headstock. But, I have unpopular opinions on guitar appearances because I actually think telecasters are the ugliest guitars
It just comes down to playing guitar enough so that your fingers are strong and confident. The riff is easy, but I've taught it a bunch of times. One your fingers develop, it becomes so easy. It just takes dedication and hard word, really.
Matt Berry atleast this dude isn't one of those millions of dad's out there who are going through their mid life crisis and try and prove themselves better than everyone by posting videos of them playing covers riddled with unnecessary solos in their home office. He's still young and can go somewhere while someone with 20 years of experience who talks down to him is probably just mad that their wife made them move their amp from the office to the garage yesterday. Don't be upset because this guy doesn't do pentatonic solos every two seconds like you probably do. If anyone lacks originality its those father figure "needs some work" guitarists all over TH-cam. Let him be himself and go back to playing Van Halen, captain "unique"
Frank Lukachinsky dude is everything ok at home? daddy issues?
you sir, are a legend
Dude that was awesome lol
2024 Bro this video had 12 years?! This guy break those notes on that guitar 🔥🔥🔥what a great song knights of cydonia ✨🎸
brilliantly made guitar, looks absolutely perfect to the original
the playing is also amazing, can't wait to see what you can do with a floyd on a similar guitar
Well you'll end up moving your hand more doing it the way Matt does (which I do), haha. Anyways, they're the same notes, so if you start on 10 on the A String and follow the same fret intervals then you'll get the same result.
For the "second half," you will move a little less using my way. Here's the tab for that (just looking at the video, but it should be accurate).
D----------------------------7--8-----7--8--9
A----6----7--9--7---10----------------------
I'll put this in the annotations.
Ignore the negative people. You have a vision in your own mind. That guitar I wanted myself but was unavailable at the time.
2 of them ? Damn you're rich !
Good cover !! :)
The Abbey Road solo makes this masterpiece of a song even more awesome.
Whenever I cover it, I tend to play some variation of the AR solo. It just makes it that much cooler of a song.
Props to Matt Bellamy, Chris Wolstenholme, and Dominic Howard for this masterpiece.
Props to you for this masterful cover.
Don't mind the negativity. You're doing fantastic! Your picking has nothing to do with the outcome if it sounds correct, right? Play how you want to play, not how others want you to - it's your style. You've got a very honorable tribute going here to one of the greatest bands today; Muse is not an easy band to replicate, plus you're using Matt's guitar which is a bonus ;p. So keep it coming :) And also, that is a sick guitar, very versatile. If I had it, I'd be proud to play it; even "in a band"
why dont his parents just rent him out wembley stadium so he can feel even more like matt bellamy
Its cuz Asian parents = dirt cheap
With 6k to spare
And they'd still have enough to buy him 4 more 3-4k guitars
How the fuck did you fuckers manage to be racist and bigoted in one thread.
SeanO Covers1999 knight*
Best cover of any song I've seen on TH-cam, killed it
Optimus prime can transform into a guitar too
This is good. This is one if my favourite songs by Muse and even though people are saying there's no talent in this I disagree heavily. Of course there's room for improvement but isn't there always room for improvement.
The guitar sounds great, but I'm not a big fan of the glitter :P Just gonna be real bout that xD
great cover, so cool that you got the perfect sound, absolutely top notch. to anyone saying it's a cover clearly has no clue or has broken ears. you can see perfectly see the correspondence of when he hits the individual notes and when the sound comes out. also, he hits i think one bum not somewhere i think in the whole song which is obvious proof like.
El mejor cover que he escuchado ...!!!
saludos amigo , en serio buen trabajo
Saludos desde Ecuador
This song always gives me goose bumps
u are sick!!
Talent ain't no disease...
Keep coming back to this, amazing cover
Am I the only one who noticed the "GERONIMO!" from "Doctor Who?" at 4:34?
he actually is screaming "COME ON WEMBLEY!" because they are performing at wembley stadium in the live version he used.
Geronimo didn't actually come from Doctor Who, It has always been a saying of bravado which one does before doing a daring stunt.
I know it, but it reminds me Matt Smith :D
Hahaha
gingerhouseROCK "Come on England"
Such a pretty guitar... Such an awful design... Why did humanity think inventing glitter was a good idea?
PD: Best video on TH-cam so far.
My face just got melted off.
That tone is worth more than my life
so just a quick question. how do i tremolo while being precise?
It comes with practice (cliche I know), but really once you develop the muscles it becomes easy to control how fast or slow you do it. Just keep grinding out the technique.
i've been doing this song on rocksmith. and before i couldn't tremolo. Now i can tremolo.
Pkuall4life what is tremolo?
Hamzah Abdurrahman first off, like your icon. Second, a Tremolo is when you strum one or more strings precisely really fast for some time.
+Hamzah Abdurrahman Tremolo is a rapid back and forth movement of the bow on the same note. Tremolo comes from the word trembling and is an articulation to that nature.3 Oct 2011
this is the best channel for MUSE covers and probably the best Guitar channel on TH-cam :)
Holy shit forgot this was a cover for a second😲
I like that guitar, in a weird way it is beautiful. And the playing was amazing. Rock on my man!
0:52 is that his mum?
Absolutely fantastic *^^^*
Love it!
just by looking the chair, I wanna eat banana immediately. idk why
Saudações do Brasil! Que sensacional ver você tocando essa baita canção da melhor banda do universo!!!
Hello, Matt!
This guitar is more beautiful than my entire Future 😍 love it!
Great cover. But you should try to play with a little more emotion. When you do your tremolo picking use just your wrist not your whole arm. Try to follow the rhythm other than that its a great cover. Awesome guitar.
Good observation,
This is epic! Nice job dude!
We all gotta start somewhere. Right?
It's an X Y pad, it can be used as whammy, sustainer etc.
(Sorry I'm not exactly an expert)
Just search up Manson M1D1 or Kaoss Pad :)
not a true fan wheres the muse merch clothing and i need one of those guitars in my life and i dont appreciate you flipping da middle finger at me at 2:09
Actually, the LED thing is just a MIDI X-Y pad, not a kaoss pad. Matt Bellamy has it hooked up to a kaoss pad, but it can be hooked up to anything with a midi interface.
Undisclosed desires please !
Donde carajo venden esa guitarra... 😺
2019
Busca en google guitarras midi con pad y te saldran un monton
