  • Had to make a quick fix and replace the plug on the end of the cord for the block heater on my Ford Focus. Simple job and saved money as a new cord was about $45. The replacement repair plug only cost $9 at Canadian Tire.

    Haha I have the exact plug and I also bought it at Crappy Tire. It’s funny how many Canadians call it that. Nice video

    I've used this vid a couple of times and I'm grateful, however I am a bit surprised he didn't notice the plug dragging all summer, I'm no car expert but I definitely take a look all around my car regularly just to make sure nothing weird like that is happening. Maybe he had a kid borrowing it a lot.

      Well is was my wife's car for starters... and the cord fell down on the inside of the grill and as hanging out of sight below engine. If I recall I noticed it when I was going an oil change or similar thing.

    The part that I'm thankful you said that I forgot about last time I had this issue. Is that the negative and positive can go either way. Just like a light bulb.

    It does matter which terminal your hot & neutral go on. Don't let this guy be the cause of your next fire. Black wire= bronze screw, white wire= silver screw.

    • @Ariz04
      @Ariz04 5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      is there a way to know, if the wires aren't color coded. mine is not, the only color it has is green... and both hot/neutral is black. so idk which is which.

    • @jordan4220
      @jordan4220 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Pretty sure is doesn't matter in a cars wiring. The block heater is just a big resistor between the two. The concept of neutral/hot (white/black) is only useful when chaining circuits like in an electrical outlet or switch.

    • @LightningChimp
      @LightningChimp 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Both my plugs were black however I went with assuming the one with some white writing on it was the "white"

      @@Ariz04 my wires were cut and both black. when I screwed all the cables together and plugged into my GFCI outlet it tripped right away. Plug into a properly ground GFCI outlet and you'll know right away if you got it right. :)

    I'm not sure how important it is to get the wires connected to specific terminals on a block heater but the simple rule is: white to light, black to dark when doing electrical plug repairs. Now, I've gotta head out and repair the plug in on my Rogue because its just about 20 below right now.

    Thank you for saving my life. I accidentally turned the power off to my husband's truck. Unfortunately it was freezing out so when he went to unplug the truck the 3 prong plug broke off. If course it was my fault and I apologized, but he still wasn't too happy about it. I can't blame him. Luckily he's a mechanic and can fix it himself and save about $300.00 ... Yeah he told me it was probably going to cost about that much... his way of making me feel guilty about it. Again, thank you for sharing.
