This came out so well. Suggestion for next project: cut openings and add doors! You could get SO much extra storage for infrequently used items. Maybe you don't need the extra storage, but I sure do! I'm going to do this in my kitchen when I replace my ancient cabinets with some I bought used and plan to paint. Great video, thanks!!

Yeah. I agree with you. I was thinking closing in the sofit and wondered if I really needed real cabinets up so high. Maybe just add boxes - as shown in this video - adding doors for a really custom and professional look.

I like the little nook spaces you installed for cookbooks and shakers and other miscellaneous things. When I do mine I plan on a convenient trash compartment in Island. Don't know if I want a hole in the island countertop or not, but something that looks better than opening the door under the sink and using a paper bag or plastic container.
Your new kitchen looks good. Thx!

Looks awesome! I've re-visted this video so many times off and on because I couldn't decide if I wanted upper cabinets added or just close it out like you did. Closing it out is definitely budget friendly vs. stock upper cabinets which is about 80.00ea and I need at least five upper cabinets. Soooo, I'm thankful I found your video because I will be closing it out. Its easier and still has a upgraded and modern look. Thanks for sharing.😊

Your videos are so impressive! You’re giving me so many ideas for my house!! I’d love to know what your planning process is going into your projects! Do you draw everything out first and know exactly what wood and materials you need, or do you get started and sort of improvise as you go? I’m sitting here just absolutely ready to go to town on my kitchen! 😂

    • @KelseyRomitoDIY

This is a great question. I try to plan as much as possible- make a product list and get everything ahead of time. BUT somehow I always end up going to the store multiple times each product. If it is a large product, like an entire kitchen, I break it down into steps and get just enough for each stage.

Another way to extend your cabinets. Building cabinets with glass doors at the top with lights inside. Also you extend more usable space. Just a thought if you decide to change it out down the road. It would match the large cabinet you have already.

Your hard work is very impressive! The end result looks very professional. 👍 On a different topic, I want respectfully to suggest that you consider adjusting the volume of your voice and of your music when you do your editing. I just watched your very first video and this one. I expected the volumes to have improved from your first video, but I still had to turn the volume up and down repeatedly during this one because the music is so much louder than your voice is, consistently. Again, please take this as a respectful suggestion, not ugliness. 🙂 I appreciated the work that went into your video, I know how hard it is to do it, and I think your final result turned out terrific.

It was a little flimsier than I expected. I had to add a 2x2 piece of wood to the bottom on the rear side in order to stabilize it better th-cam.com/users/postUgkxXTh-lz-8W6GcB219vTLp27-MxbZYObBX . It is also starting to bow a little at the outer wall ( I've had it up for about 6 months), I've already had a shelf tumble down because of the bow and the fact that the little shelf brackets are quite short. I went out to home depot and got some longer ones so that the shelves don't tumble down again. Overall, it looks very nice for the price and it holds a lot ( I use it as a pantry). I am very satisfied with my purchase. I just strongly suggest reinforcing it before putting it up.

there are not many of us, and although it looks nice, I don't understand why? you would not
build upper cabinets. We always need more storage. just wondering. But great job,

Hi, at the time of this project I didn’t have the time or budget to build upper cabinets and then attempt to match doors for the new cabinets. Just wanted to give an option for those who might not be able to do that.

Why not use the space for storage. Its just dead space now

My cabinets are all different heights so I can’t do this.

These are not cabinet extensions. These are softfit and exactly what I am trying to get rid of. These are ugly.

Looks good but wasted storage space.

My thought process was I’m not using that space anyway and if I want to add cabinets up there in the future, it’s really easy to undo.

I would have built cubbies above the cabinets with and or without doors on the fronts for baskets and cookbooks and cool kitchen display items, like an old copper tea kettle, old wooden bowl, old pottery. We don't really think this idea would work for us. Losing alot of storage space and wasting good real-estate. Just our opinion. It looks great though. Good job!

    why not wear safety glasses?
scary, really. I watched this whole thing thinking she was building a cabinet on top. This is not what I want. I want additional small cabinet space. Now she just has less space in her kitchen.

Too enclosed now. Could’ve left the open concept and ran accent lighting strip along the top

Sorry about that. This was one of my earlier videos and hopefully my editing has come a long way since then.

Your method of painting is just so wrong from prep to technique to tools used.
