Here are my input, Central Thai tum is a bit sweet and tangy which I like, Khmer is a bit salty and wicked which I also like, Lao tum is right in the middle which is AWESOME 😎 🔥.
Omg, I just tried this recipe without padak and it's BOMB!! I thought padak was essential but you said it's optional. Thanks so much, my first time ever making papaya salad, Yummy. Hits the spot. 😊
Just finished making this and WOW so dang good, close to how my mom makes it (I made it way less spicier lol). The only change I would make is to do 1/4 c or less of fish sauce. I didn’t have crab paste and it still tasted great! Thank you 🙏
Oh can I ask u what is makok Lao is I just curious bc I see someone put that one too but I see your is the best one that y it make my mouth watering ,wish u ave more new recipe come out n wish u your family goods health too

"Som Thum" actually came from the Lao word "Thum Som". Some Lao people still call this today. "Thum" to pound, "Som" sour. Thai people like to say things backward, i.e., "ping moo" in Lao grilled pork, they say "moo ping", "ping gai" grilled chicken, they say "gai ping, or gai yang. Papaya salad in Thailand is of Lao origin. 50 years ago papaya salad was considered in Thailand "poor peoples food eaten by Lao people".
same thing with mango and sticky rice. long time ago they said its poor peoples food eaten by Laotian, now thai claim it's one of their national dish. 🤣🤣
