I'm sure there are golfers who have won Jr amateur golf, amateur golf and professional golf, including majors. But, is there anyone who won 3 consecutive Jr amateur and amateur golf 3 consecutive years in a row? Is there anyone who won their first major (The Masters at that) not long after becoming a professional at he age of 21, just a year after winning the amateur tournaments? That is, in addition to winning other professional tournaments immediately after saying "hello world" in 1996, including a playoff with one of the best golfers (Davis Love III). We might find records of these golfers, but I have to say, Tiger Woods introduced us to a different kind of the game of golf. He brought the masses to appreciate this sport that others would find boring (chasing a small ball after you hit it and once it finds the hole, do it all over again for as many rounds) or elitist. The landscape of the fairways and greens changed forever.
I'm not a Tiger Woods fan but winning three straight Junior Amateurs and then three straight US Amateurs is absolutely unbelievable, though it's become overshadowed by his professional career. To have won every match even with all the unpredictability of match play, especially when Tiger was still young and inconsistent, is incredible.
@@Aware2128 You're aware that it's possible to have a lot of respect for someone's achievements without being a fan? I'm not a fan of a lot of athletes and teams even though I respect their accomplishments.
Agree 100%. In the U.S. Am final, there’s a lot of time to fill with only 2 players on the course, and Johnny does such a great job filling all of that time. He was the best color commentator for golf.
Tiger's swing was great even back then. I know the early 2000's swing was the best but I would tell anyone that wants to be good to try and copy Tiger's swing here.
1:45:07 Tiger hits his best possible shots under the greatest possible pressure. Looking back it was super obvious that he was going to be the greatest.

Johnny Miller was the absolute best golf color man in history...it's a shame the networks dropped him for being too honest and willing to speak his mind
Mr. Miller was often rude....there's an obvious difference betwixt speaking ones mind and rude behavior. Case in point, and one of many....when Rocco and Tiger battled in the 2008 US Open Mr. Miller's "this guy looks like someone who cleans Tigers pool" and "guys named "Rocco" don't win Opens was downright ugly, with many agreeing somewhat racist. Yes JM was indeed a very knowledgeable and above average analyst, however he imho was often rude with an entitlement air about him...CC snobby😊
I love when Tiger proves Johnny miller wrong time after time after time. Miller literally talks so much shit about tiger on the course and then tiger literally spits in his face and proves him wrong. He been doing that for years on the PGA Tour, I didn’t know he did this in the amateur championships as well lol
Not sure what you watched. Johnny was complimentary of Tiger the whole round. He predicted Tiger to drive a par four green in one shot, hit it to one feet on 18 etc. Johnny’s commentary was as good as Tigers play.
Yeah it was weird that the nbc crew called this instead of roger twibell and the ESPN crew, if not Musburger and Melnyk and the ABC crew like the year before at Sawgrass. But since ABC was no longer doing the Open, the USGA probably requested the NBC crew, which was now covering the Open, to work ESPN’s coverage of the Amateur
Just finished reading the book, “Tiger Woods.” Watching his dad hug him and in tears makes me want to puke. He had only one agenda, to be the dad of the worlds best “black” golfer. I’m conflicted on this one.

Both players played such a great match. This was delightful to watch! There’s nothing like a great match play game of golf.
The ESPN music. That is early to mid 90’s in a nutshell!
Other great commentary - "you're hard-pressed to find a guy in his 40s with money with no belly on him"
He's not wrong though! 😆
How do you beat a guy who can hit a 270 2 iron like John Daly, putts like Crenshaw and recovers like Seve?
You dont.
That’s what tiger woods meant by “the perfect being” in his 1994 interview with steve melnyk
Tiger from '97 to '08 was something else to watch. I'll be very surprised to see someone else come along that can electrify the game like he did.

Buddy made some killer up and downs. Clutch.
He was hitting it very poorly off the tee, so his recovery and putting was amazing. Like the tortoise and the hare, contrast with Tiger.

Kinda shitty how these announcers were all low key pulling against Tiger back then, they were the same way in 1994. They just couldn’t stand it.
