    Six years later and your video is still helping people. I just changed out my thermostat and it wouldn't power on. Put the old one back in and still nothing. Came across this video and found a blown fuse. Thank you!!

    I just attempted to change my thermostat without shutting off power first and I was quite alarmed that the new t-stat didn't work, and neither did the old one when I put it back!! This video saved me an embarrassing and expensive service call. I found the fuse and the filament looked fine, but my continuity tester confirmed that it was in fact BLOWN. After a quick trip to the hardware store everything is fine. And while the unit was down I went ahead and put the new t-stat back into place, and it is working fine too. Thanks so much for this video!!

    God Bless you man! I bought a house and installed a new WiFi thermostat. I turned off the the a/c breaker and replaced the thermostat. Once I finished I switched the breaker on and I had no power in the thermostat or a/c. I watched your video and after going back and forth, I realized that there is another breaker for the air handler, which I had not switched off. I opened the air handler and there was the 5 amp fuse blown. I made sure all breakers were off, replaced the fuse & boom, everything working 100%. Saved me a ton of money! Thanks for the video.

    Was getting very frustrated and thought I was gonna break my thermostat plate with the way I was trying to pull the thing off the wall. Couldn't find any video showing how to take it off with the Honeywell design I had. But I saw the same thermostat on your video and after watching you pinch it from the top and bottom, I did the same and got it off, finally. Didn't come off as easily as your attempt, but it opened. Was able to change the batteries it said needed replacement. Thank you for this video.

    Thank you! Because of your detailed video, I was able to have heat. The ambient temperature is 26 and my house is 52. I moved my thermostat and forgot to turn off the power. I didn't think I needed to because all the thermostat does is send a signal to the circuit board which identifies it as a code to turn on or off. I found the fuse, which was 3 amp, again serves no purpose other than to ensure that if you didn't know about this then you would have blown it and called a repairman. Why wouldn't they locate the fuse on the thermostat rather than the unit? Oh, that's right so you can doubt yourself and call someone to do it for you. Well, again, thank you for the video and the explanation of why you are checking the components.

    I did the same... shut the Hvac breaker off, didn’t check to make sure it was the correct breaker (thinking the guy who labeled the panel knew what he was doing) and bam, fuse blew.... I like the concept of shutting all 2pole breakers down (if you can). Thanks

    thanks - great video, helped a lot with my original problem. Question . . I hope you have time to help me. I put in an Ecobee5 tstat and lost power, which brought me to your video. My system does not have a fuse. I replaced the transformer, added a piggy back 3A fuse to the secondary side. Still no luck, so I replaced the timer board and ignition control module and finally power back at tstat, boards etc. Once the ecobee was powered up the screen said 'delayed start-up" then read 100 degrees, then 110, then 120! I had to use an oven mitt to remove it. The ecobee contacts melted on the back on one side. Back to no power. Before moving forward would I need to replace the tstat wiring since the insulation appears to be melted to the copper wiring?

    Great video. I accidentally hit the thermostat wiring with the weed eater next to the outside unit. I spliced the wires back together, but I have no power at the thermostat. I did not check for a fuse. Do most (if not all) have a fuse inside at the air handler? My unit is a Rudd probrably 2013 or so. Thank you.

    ok here's a good question. I asked My property manager before changing out my thermostat. it was ok'd by them. I replaced my analog thermostat with a digital programmable thermostat, I followed the color guide on the mounting plate. I have a 4 wire system electric heat system by the way. red to red blue to blue yellow to yellow white to white. when I call for air the heat comes on. when I call for heat the compressor comes on but fan does not. I have to turn the fan from auto to on in order to get it too work. please help

    Good video. I have a problem with my Lyric thermostat displaying an insufficient power error. I tested my wires red to yellow and red to white and there are 27 volts. However, red to blue and red to green only shows about 14-16 volts. Do I have a bad transformer?

    • @TandNServices
      @TandNServices  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If your getting 27 volts your transformer is fine. Try looking at your green and blue wires to see if they maybe broken. I've seen them broken inside the insulation and it caused a problem like your talking about

    Took my nest thermostat off the wall to repair the big hole so I can flush mount it. Pulled the plug from the unit to the house because it thought that killed the power. Hooked everything back up and says no power coming from unit. Thought I might have broke the red wire but it looks fine. I hope like hell I just blew the fuse. Started looking online and it brought me here. I’m going to go up and check it.

    Check to see if your AC condenser has a pan with a float switch. I thought I had thermostat problems and board problems. Turned out all I had was a bad float switch causing the whole thing not to work. Check it first or remove it and connect the wires together, then see if you still have problems. Just would have saved me a lot of time.

      Jim Pettinato I've had mine now for a couple years. Impressed with the accuracy of it and ease of use! In one situation I came back with an air flow hood and got virtually the same readings. Great tool to have! I like being able to label and export the readings! I don't use that feature often but when I want some formal data right from the meter, exporting that data is a nice option to have!

    I guess heat strips have there use when the ambient temps are very low to help a heat pump put out warm air,but as a home owner I can not afford the cost of electricity and do not want to spent tons of money running heat strips...should I call for service again and have the heat strips rewired to come on only when they are needed?

    • @TandNServices

      Yes you can do that, they make a outdoor stat the will only bring on the heat strips at certain temperature. It's code in some states, just not in Ga yet
