Clarification: 13:33 In Antiquities, Josephus actually doesn't explicitly state his name within the text. Also, among the approximately 90-100 biographical writings spanning 150 years before and after Jesus-covering this extensive period of ancient history-only two authors formally identify themselves within their works (Historia Augusta - Life of Aelius and Lucian's Passing of Peregrinus). The vast majority remain "formally anonymous."
I have a hunch that Luke was writing to Theophilus so that he could help Paul in his trial somehow. Like “Hey, Theo. Here’s the story Paul is talking about (the gospel), and here’s what we were doing before Paul appealed to Caesar.” Obviously speculation though so… not gonna hang my hat on it
Man, after 2-3 years of watching all these videos, I feel like I’m getting some of this apologetic stuff. At 4:45 I thought, “waaaaaaait a min Erik, that’s an argument from silence.” And boom, you tell me what I’m thinking, then correct it.

I’m not a dad yet, but I somehow appreciate your dad jokes. But that’s not to say that this video was a failure due to my lack of cringing-much the opposite! I have a lot to study!
Do you guys think that Paul sometimes is using language that isn't uplifting and tears others down at times? Like in 1 Corinthians 14:18 where Paul says I thank God that I speak more tongues than all of you. I would be upset by that as someone who hasn't had a spiritual experience.
lol. they're also bad this year, and just treated Strasburg like a used dishrag. The logo was original with the old Washington Senators (now Texas Rangers) so they really have dibs. They were before Walgreens, I believe. I just found the hat in mint condition at a thrift store and love MLB in general. When you find a $45 hat for $8, you can't pass it up. I'm more of a Cards fan, but I def. was pulling for Washington when they beat Houston.
@@TestifyApologetics I like the live streams, although my schedule hasn't been conducive to watching them live. Will you keep it the way it is with random days and times or try doing a specific schedule? Listener interaction is a great thing, we would never have known you were Armenian otherwise (I know beliefs are usually a little more subtle than the name of a doctrine). Do you think you'll ever have interviews with atheist scholars or TH-camrs, as friendly discussions? Which one of these teams won't make the post season: Seattle, Texas, or Toronto? Don't break my heart.
It's nice to see you trusting the fathers on the authorship of the gospels, they are essential to understanding the early church. However being totally honest here, I don't see how any intellectual christian will remain protestant after reading them.
@@Wicked_Weavile0808 well I'm orthodox, maybe you can find an orthodox church near you. I have a lot of respect for the Catholic church, just the politics and stuff made me pick orthodox over them.
This is a marvelous work, but let's be frank: After a certain point it becomes kind of pointless. You can have a literal mountain of evidence supporting the accuracy of Acts, or even the entire Bible, but the likes of Ehrman will simply cross their arms, stomp their feet, and whine that it isn't good enough for them, or that Luke was simply consulting the 1st century equivalent of Wikipedia. And they will continuously pull false contradictions out of their butt that are based on the flimsiest of small discrepancies that a four-year-old could resolve.
That's OK, I am not worried about converting Bart Ehrman. But there are people who have been bothered by him that should hear the other side of the story.
Yeah, in the face of what you presented, it seems Ehrman is desperate. I’ve been feeling that way about him recently. As Habermas pointed out, after hearing the concessions Ehrman made about the resurrection in a particular debate, the moderator asked why Ehrman did not believe in Jesus.
@@TestifyApologetics The problem is that these people were infected with Bart Ehrman. It is useless for them. Dialogue with an atheist who left Christianity because of Bart Ehrman or Richard Carrier is a terrible thing. They are a pile of stupidity. I hope that your videos will be directed to serious atheists (stay away from Paul and Derek Lampart because these will not work with them anything) as well as to practically non-atheist New Testament scholars such as James Tabor or Dale Ellison or Jewish scholars .....
I'm a St. Louis Cardinals fan who finds cool MLB hats at the thrift shop for cheap and so I snap them up. I just like baseball. I actually used to blog about it and had a few articles published on ESPN.com back in the day.
5:40 I'm glad you caught yourself. I would argue Paul was definitely not killed. Paul anticipated being delivered from every evil work and preserved right up to the appearance of Christ and his heavenly kingdom. I think it much better to assume Paul was raptured with the others that remained.

Even if Acts was written or structured in the style of a Greek epic, it doesn't follow that the events are then fictitious. Excellent video!
Those Doctor jokes were... A-Paul-ing 💀
Bravo. That was 👍
This thumbnail is gold because it is soo true. Not even an overstatement.
Thanks for the vid bro 💯
Awesome stuff Erik!
Nice work. Glad you did this tonight, instead of playing cards. Your bible dad jokes might need some improvement tho - I Noah guy... 🥴
😂
Jesus baptism
The father " This is my son for who I am most pleased "
John the Baptist " no way "
Jesus " yhwh "
Really enjoyed all this info.
I sure hope Bart is watching these great videos. God bless you.

A lot of work behind this discourse and a heart for atheists and Bart Ehrman, people pleaser that he is, as well.

1:08:15 Why does it look like there's a red dragon familiar behind him in the picture? If it is a dragon, why does it have a nimbus around its head?
Nice channel
Another goated stream 🐐

I would recommend you watch David pawsom video of Corinthians

Ofcourse its ehrman
events are then fictitious
I find critics dismissal of the nt evidence pretty lame. So what theyre saying is all the early church fathers were mistaken

How is it a strawman to liken determinism to the view that we are robots? Essentially, that is the idea of it.
