My view on what sets you apart. The key ingredient is your personality. But other things that keep me interested: geology, getting into the miner's heads on what they were doing, examining artifacts no matter how minuet, yes your rants :-), camera work and editing, mine history, and of course Laura's contribution. Put all that together and THAT's what makes the difference ... to me anyway. Working as a team has also got you into a lot that would be ill advised to do alone. Take care!
Post edit. And the drama of the Bob saga. Nothing like a.little drama to spice it up. I know it was frustrating for you, but life's little twists add a human element to your adventures. Take care II

    Gly,
I follow a couple of others, mainly Tom and Julie, they do a great job. I think why you (and Laura) are my favorite, it's your personality and dialog. There's no "dead air" that I've seen on some of the other mine channels (not being critical of others, just different styles.) And your style comes across as if we the viewers are walking right behind, you, come across as conversational, not just "dialog."
Growing up in Southern California, when I was a kid I grew up exploring mines with my dad, Rodman Mountains, Ord Mountains, Panamint Mountains, etc. but that's been decades ago. I love going "through" the mines with you and Laura.
My favorites are the incredible archives you run across and how you explain them to us, history, etc. Also love when you talk about the geology part. I think that's another thing that sets you apart. You tend to get deeper into the sharing of all the types of rocks and minerals. I find that fascinating. Would love to hear more about the different types of minerals and veins.
One question for you. In this mine, there was a small section where it narrowed quite a bit and then opened back up wider. Was there a specific reason they did that?
Love to see you, Laura and Tom and Julie meet up sometime for a mine explore.
Take care, be safe and thank you for educating, enriching and entertaining us

If somebody wants to nitpick your dialogue during these fantastic adventures, well they're probably the kind of person that would complain about being hung with a new rope. 😂. Anyway, keep these fantastic videos coming. Back in the days I was a caver. And I miss those days. Gly I tend to look a lot at the geology of the mines that you explore. There are some mines that you've explored in the past that I've gone back and re-watched because they were very interesting. I love it when you take time to explain some of the geology of the mine without going to deep unless there's actually good reason to do so to explain why the miners were choosing to do something. I've learned a lot about mining by watching your videos. I like that you stay safe and don't do stupid things just to get attention. I also like that you keep your language family friendly.

What really got me into your channel was that episode where you all went to that tomb mine. Where the miners all died in that collapse and you were under it in the rescue build part. I still think about that occasionally, it was incredibly powerful. You were respectful and informative.
I don't want you to do dangerous stuff, but I think more tributes to falling miners would be nice. So they dont get buried and forgotten over time.

There's only one other group that I like to watch besides yours and that is Tom and Julie I really enjoy their content as well .I like yours mostly because of the narration which is great. I love the geology that's my biggest interest, and being able to see in the ground. And going where those miners went and seeing what they did, the amount of hard physical labor that those people did blows my mind. When I see where they pulled ore out of those Stopes and drifts and raises some of the places that they pulled that ore up and out just boggles my mind how they did it. it looks to me like it would have to have been done a bucket full at a time. Anyway keep up the good work we enjoy it and I hope you have many years to come thank you.

I am also a fan of your personalities. You make it fun while also teaching about what and why the miners were doing what they were doing. I'm really not a fan of the folks that just rush through a mine just to get it documented on camera. The miners back then worked their butt's off and I think it's great that you show off just how hard they worked. Thank you both for working so hard to bring this to all of us.

Laura adds a lot to this channel. Another dimension and view. I was betting on a winze in that drift.
I have a feeling that the crazy prospector, miner, and geologist would have gone bananas in that mine.
My feeling is that what you referred to as a steam engine last week was an air motor. Air would have been easier to pipe and steam would have lost too much temperature. Also, the lack of obvious grease and oil residue in the area.
I like to see how the mine was worked. How all the material was moved. Track, cars, hoists, etc. and the evidence of such. Cans and bottles are of less interest. I also am very interested in the wood and timbering used. Species, ring count, density, framing (joints), etc. dave

I only follow a few mine explorers on the TH-cams, and as far as I know there's only a couple other male and female teams. I find you and Laura engaging and easy to watch, you both bring me fresh knowledge with every explore. I really enjoy following you two along, and I like to geek out at the geological morphology you document. Finding the fault zones, strikes, contact points and mineralization, and then visually tracing all that in the rock as you push further into your explore, and (as another viewer commented) getting into the head of the miners. So please, continue to point those features out. Artifacts? I find the equipment and infrastructure quite interesting, especially in the older mines where native timbers and rudimentary ore chutes are found. Please, don't skip that stuff! :)
Do you and Laura plan a return into the Thunder Ridge Mine that you solo'ed in the past year or so? That place was EPIC! I've only gotten to Ep. 37 in the past month of starting at your beginnings, I'm sure I'll see more mines that boggle the mind that you've uploaded. Keep up the great work, Gly and Laura. Stay safe!

    Dear Gly & Laura,
May I just start off by saying , Thank you.
The risk that you take by entering all of the abandoned minds are dangerous, and life-threatening.
I imagine there have been many lives taken in the mines.
I have been following abandoned and forgotten places since the beginning . ♥️💕♥️
Remember as kids we would lay on the ground and we would see different formations, and different faces and things in the clouds?
I do the same thing when we go into the mines. 🥹
I think I see all kinds of crazy things in the rocks lol . ( faces, lizards, all kinds of stuff)
Since discovering the mines w/ you, Randy❤, Mr M, and Beautiful Ms Laura, I started collecting.
( I will definitely be bidding)
Would LOVE that sample to add to my collection.
Gly… You are definitely the King of mines, and Ms Laura is definitely the Queen of mines. ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
You hit the jack- pot w/ her.
A very special Thank you to each of you’s.
You have taught me soooo much.
    Please stay safe.
    May God Bless You.

Gly and Laura, It struck me that the old miners laid down material (clay) between the rails to create a smooth walking path over the ties. Is that something that you see in these old mines?

    • @AbandonedandForgottenPlaces
      @AbandonedandForgottenPlaces  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

“Gly”: Yes, the miners would typically lay down smaller aggregate and level out the floor before laying the crossties and rail down. Over time, the space between the crossties would fill with rock, dirt and clay and when the crossties are removed they would leave behind impressions that we see today.

Anyway, as a kid I used to climb this mountain that was right across my grand mother’s house. At the top of the mountain was a huge cross erected. Also I remember seeing a large mine shaft. I no longer see the shaft on google earth. There is a portal at the bottom of the mountain that is gated and locked. Have you ever explored this mine before. If not, would you consider a visit?

My wife wants to know where Laura got her purple sunglasses. What brand, and such, she likes them.

All the layers appear to be on a slant. Would the have been level deep in the past then tectonic movement moves the slabs up and down shifting huge sections of earth?

How would you like to be the guy that had to push the ore cart out 1400 feet .

Why, why....would miners blast and then haul out all that material to the dump site!! 1500 ft. is a long way in. 2nd mine, looks to be a "big search",again, helter skelter blasting and digging out pockets that were showing Sliver veins. Boy! there sure can be alot of earth moving to "hard rock" mining. It was a interesting explore though. Thanks for going there.

I understand the dirty butt. I used to explore many mines when I was much younger mostly in California like the Gold Queen in Mojave before it became an open pit. We used carbide lamps then and instamatic cameras. Sometimes the mines would be very humid so we would sweat and all the dirt would stick to our butts.

They used black powder in guns as well, was there a difference between the black powder used in guns and dynamite?

  • @grimsmith1

The difference is that you guys do it not only professionally, but interestingly too! Most other minex groups are not much more than trespassers, there's the difference! All this of course, depends on the return of the jet, so where is it? Huh? Huh?
