You're 100% correct. Although I have decent WN8, I think it's the worst statistic for this game ever. At one time I didn't even want to play with my friends because they are not the best players and would have dragged down my WN8 score... So really, WN8 sucks, promotes selfish play, makes people egoistic, and ruins the fun for everyone.

@@crevette_farouche Just because you have a bad WN8, that doesn't mean that you are a bad player (did you not watch the second match? The guy pretty much won the game for his team, yet his earned WN8 for the game sucked) and just because you have a decent WN8, that doesn't make you a good player (the goal of the matches is to win, and you can do almost all the damage for your team giving you a good WN8 score and still lose) Win rate is an even poorer statistic that I have seen people use to compare each other with, and win rate means nothing in regards to how good of a player you are. For example you could kill 13 out of 15 tanks in every match you are in, but always be on a shitty team and still lose, giving you a low win rate; or you could die in the first 30 seconds of every match, but always be on kick ass teams and constantly win, giving you a great win rate! Basically, players who use win rate and WN8 to judge how good a player is are the ones who are toxic and usually shitty team mates!

@@crevette_farouche When I used to play WOT I would do a lot of things, to help the team win that many players, certainly statpadders, would not do. I didn't give a damn about WN8, I just played the game, not the statistics.

Kunze benefited from spawn location too. If he was further to the west maybe he misses those initial spots. But your points are good ones. Plus he had the right equipment and directive and skilled crew.
I like all the German tier 9 mediums. Still like leopard PTa the best I think.

Someone who has a T55-A likely had to use a lot of skill and aiming to win that tank. I am not such a player, spend most of my time playing lower tiers because I don't like leaking credits all over the maps.... and my favorite play is passive light scout camping in an OP bushka...
Re: WN8 -
Some really good clan skirm/advanced players who have relatively low PR or WN8 ratings. This is because they don't play randoms any more, as soon as they discovered clan play they abandoned randoms.
Oh, and thank you so much for admitting how much lights farming SD is beneficial to a team. I often get accused of being a bot or "useless" for doing it. I'm doing what a light scout is supposed to do, not brawl or yolo.
Would rather have the second guy, as vision wins most of the time, especially on the open maps.
I always find it hilarious and ridiculous when some player chases in you into messaging and sends you something saying how good they are based on WN8. I always say, "get a life". Then I blacklist them so I don't have to listen to them anymore.
Bro I'm gonna be honest, I use to be one of these players bragging about WN8, however I use to play WoT on console (Xbox One) and have since uninstalled the game as I hated myself for being toxic and having a toxic mindset. I mean players tho on console are a different level of stupid even by PC standards 😂 but the point is I'd rather not put myself through that and just watch other people play as its more relaxing for me. I also quit because I dont think I enjoy the game without a competitive mindset. Sometimes I miss the days when I was blissfully unaware of WN8 and any of the other stat crap and could just enjoy playing the game for the tanks instead. I wish they removed the WN8 crap and until they do, im done participating. Im not sure if WG is directly involved in the stats themselves, but they've done nothing to try and remove it from 3rd party sites. I think some stats are fine like win rate but the whole game is revolved around stats, stats, stats and it promotes selfish play styles as claus put in hes title.

Seeing gold shred through an Obj430U turret is so wrong. That tank used to be the hull-down medium. Protect lower plate and enjoy the bounces.
These guys are fun to have on your team, you mostly win with a spotter on the team.
I totally agree with your title here. Also allot of Men that have these top games play for themselves and not for the team.
My favorite player in the game has a 578 win8 with a 57% percent win rate. He only plays low to mid-tier Russian scout tanks. A-20 (15k), T-50 (15k), and MT-25 (11k) are his top 3.
There is no win8 bonus for being a good scout.
No idea what my WN8 is - probably crap as I'm just a 50% plodder who tries to do the right thing for the team given the situation... and I care not
WN8 is a toxic mod for a toxic game. It fits perfectly.
WG is the instigator of in-game toxicity. WG NA staff are a bunch of basement dwelling kids on a power trip who perpetuate the toxic nature of the game with their needless bans. Another words, the WG NA staff are worthless jackasses who cannot get a job at Walmart.

Squad 44 has great armor play, and statistics are hardly kept or provided both during and after the game. Some selfish play exists, but it's not as common.

Especially the weekend mid-tier players. Guys with 20k games playing the same tank at tier 5 with a 9-skill crew and all gold ammo, hiding at the back for 5 minutes then coming in to kill-steal or simply going fully AFK if the game is going poorly.

Not just the WN8 scores but the daily missions are almost all based on damage and kills.
I really swear that a better way to know how a player is good, an other way is with damaged block, it don't give XP but each damage block is damage not done to an ally.
The first special bush for Kunze was a biig luck for spoting....no enemy blind fire in all that bush....pure luck for Kunze

I think WN8 is a broadsword kind of metric which can give one a general indication if a player is good at the game or not, but it's not 100% reliable and prone to manipulation, the most of which imo happens when players go seal clubbing with OP tanks in lower tiers.
That being said, when a person has 50k games and 500wn8, he will 100% have a winrate way below 50% and will not be a good player.
All of WOT is devoted to selfish play. Missions, WN8, rewards, etc are all based on individual statistics.
Even the way the random games are set up mean that any type of teamwork is difficult at best. No time to coordinate, form defensive strong points or mark attack lanes/positions, etc. Every now and then you can find someone watching your flank or you can watch someone else's. Spotting is the most obvious team maneuver, but, you are rarely rewarded for it, and, sometimes penalized.
I do really love the games where a 'like' group of tanks go with a common goal and win a flank or even a game by supporting each other rather than trying to 'steal' all the hit points/kills.
As I understand it the Wargaming API doesn't include spotting damage so it can't be used in external tools like WN8.

I love a man like you Claus as you come here with the Truth and Facts and not like like other men do to get their free tanks.
It’s the same with arty and stun assist. You can do 5k stun assist but when your actual damage is less than 1.5k, your WN8 will be way below 1k. But it does increase your MOE percentage and possibly get you an Ace tanker.
Also, sometimes you block a flank, do no damage and no spotting. And the other flank did a good job. Her you did not get any WN8 either but you blocked your flank so that other flank could go around getting enemies in their backs. Not valued in anyway in wot….

Indeed for those who know him "John The Terrible" one of the best players on the NA server told me the exact same.
IIrc WN8 was introduced when WG rating sucked and nobody really knew what that WG number ment.
Right now the WG rating says much more then WN8 about the player but WN8/7 is still a decent indicator.
I’m sure the tomatoes will feel better after watching this. But high WN8 correlates greatly with high win percentage.

Armor profile in world of tanks is meaningless when players just spam gold throughout a battle. No real skill required. Then get a high WN8 number and gloat as if it means something.

Totally agree that WN8 is an inaccurate stat for how good a player is because many players stay at low tiers stat padding against new players which inflates their WN8. It becomes obvious they aren't a great player when they attempt to play tier 8 and above. WN8 is accurate in determining a players " MUPPET" level. If a player has a sub 500 WN8 he's most likely a Moron. Especially if they have played several thousand battles.

I run with the name anonymiser as i got sick fed up with other players slagging my WN8 off because i wasn't an "elite" player like them. I play to have fun, not to be a butt-sucking slave to the game with no sex life
Barely hear Wn8 tossed around in matches anymore. It has become accepted as a crap measure of a player. It is so ridiculously pad-able ( low tier padding ) that no one really takes it seriously anymore. With so many variables in game it is hard to have any real metric that show an individual players true skill. I lean toward winrate myself.
This have been a problem with WN7 and WN8 since the beginning since the WOT API did not offer data for Damage Assist I think. However today I believe this data is available. Maybe it is time for WN9 or WN8 + Damage Assist. That said I think any experienced player/clan know what to look for regarding good spotting knowledge. I think WTR is a better way to measure good players today. But I also believe you can go completely ego and have high WTR. It's hard to counter. How to award team players vs ego players? When are a player ego vs just smart? We could have a player award system but this would probably just be misused where you always reward you friend above the best player, etc.

imho Marking is worse than WN8 because if a player sees he has a bad team before the game starts he camps at the back farming damage that the rest of the team spot whilst taking the risk moving forward.
Ah yes, 3 marking a heavy, light, medium while sitting in the back. Works 100% of the time.

The WN8 is biased toward damage. You get more xp for damage than anything else, especially closer than 300 meters. If you want great WN8 play brawling tanks and do well. Play anything else with similar damage results at greater than 300 meters and you will receive a quarter reduction in xp.
Win rate should matter, but it is broken.. A SPG spotting should get more credit.. 😊

Since the wn8 stuff started then half the players would just be out for themselves, would be the ones who irregardless of the vehicle would just be sat at the back and not move until the end, never help support a flank or do what is needed to support the team.

I love to play LTs but they are becoming meaningless. Especially in top tiers with setups like this. WG needs to make more differentiation in the tank roles. Tier X lots are pretty much obsolete

Field mods. Once you max out the tank (buy all the upgraded tracks, turrets etc...) then you get a button on the upgrade screen for field modifications.

I could have or anyone else could have a good Win8 if you wanted to spend all your time on here but I play this game because it is a GAME and not a job. Yes you want to get better at any game you play. I find it so Stupid when these so called top clans want you to have such and such Win8 and all these so called other top stats. I played on a few of these top teams and did really well but left because of the nonsense of treating this like a job. Remember some of these clans have been gotten and many if you look have Disbanded or many players have just left.

I am 60% player who lost 300 wn8 last year only bc i am playing lts.. still have 2800 and don t care about wn8 butt when they resolve that problem and include spot and assist dmg into wn8 or wn10 or something like that i will install wot again.. and so will many other people..

Does anyone really play for WN8? I think selfish players play for mission objectives when they're not playing for win rate. Maybe some do if there are clan requirements, but I think win rate is as much a requirement for those highly competitive clans.
How to set the wn8 shown in the report? Mod or ingame ?

wn8 is a measure of DPG over a long period of time, which is the best metric to show player skill besides straight up WR. taking both into account is a good way to judge if someones good or not

I can remember when I watched a stream with one of the Wargaming employees (Eekeeboo I think), he admitted the game is all about what damage you do (assistance damage as well) and WN8 and win rate don't really matter, focus on your average damage per game
Your average damage per game can vary depending on the tier you play ie tier X you will get more average damage compared to tier III Your point is void winning is all that matters ie the more your winning the damage comes along with it 😊
@@shotgunshawzy well yeah obviously the damage will be higher per tier, but the more winning does not mean more damage, you do your damage whether you win or lose, the result has nothing to do with it, you can have an insane battle and do high damage and still lose! what I'm getting at is trying to get a decent level of damage for whatever is your preferred tier to play

Why do people care so much about wn8?? It’s not a part of the game.
It’s a third party stat that only comes from a mod, and all it shows is how selfish a player can be to only focus on damage and not a team win.
WoT has a rating system already and a win rate score. wn8 is just for wallet warriors that can’t hack it without mods.
IDK what this video is about but tell you what, you show do a series teaching dumb players (40% or more) how to play

Yesterday I tried to pen a medium tank with 330mm pen. The tank was capping and I had 15 sec left to reset. We were losing. I bounced TWICE, and we lost. So 330 cannot pen 75mm when RNG says no? The loss was pre-determined? Like Claus says, I call BS...
CVS is one of the worst things they ever put in the game. Along with veeled wehicles.
