I’m not a cowboy. Didn’t grow up on a ranch. I’m 48 and just bought my first cowboy hat and I love it. Been a fireman since I was 17 and have been a leathersmith for over 10 years. At work I have worn a leather helmet that is fashioned after a traditional style cowboy hat for many many years and we shape them to our style and personal preference. Sadly, I see the traditional gentleman (cowboy) dying in these current times. So when I finally broke down and decided to buy a hat I asked myself why I waited so long. The cowboy hat represents good old fashioned American culture and everything we stand for, exactly the same reason fireman wear mustaches! I’m damn proud to wear my hat and defend my country even if it means dying for a stranger in need. Not sure if that qualifies me to wear a hat, but I’m gonna wear it anyway. So I guess I’m all hat and no cattle. No apologies here! Blessings from Northern California.

I'm all hat and no cattle as a truck driver, but it's the best hat to drive with against the sun, and in the rain when dropping trailers. My Baseball cap just wasn't cutting it.
I'm in the same deal as you. All hat, no cattle. I've never been happier since changing my attire over. I can't stand the crappy(sometimes stained) T-shirt, sweatpants, and flip-flops/sneakers not tied truckers we see today. It is always nice to see someone dressed up. Like they were ready to work today. People will never look up to us truckers with such a high percentage looking like slobs everyday. Thank you sir for helping be the difference. Maybe I'll see you on the other side one day. To shake your hand.
I'm from a farm in indiana. And a buddy of mine came back with a hat. Now I'm in Texas figuring all this stuff out to get my first hat. It's pretty cool to learn about all the history and work that goes into making a hat
My brother loves his custom made cowboy hat. I don't think he's one of your customers, but it is a pretty good testimonial for a quality handmade product.
Tom Hurt up in Penrose Colorado does a 3 or 4 day class you can attend. During the class you will make a 100% beaver hat. I haven't done it yet, but it's on my bucket list. It isn't like you will become an expert, but it could sure be a nice intro to the craft. Tom is a great guy just as I imagine Cody is too. Working with a custom hat maker is a treat for sure. And i agree with Cody. My custom hat has ruined me on hats off the rack. Even better ones. I can't wait to get my next one made.
Love the look of the cowboy hat. I respect the ones that wear them. Can’t see myself wearing one looking like an urban cowboy. To many fake cowboys with no manners🤦♂️
My grandpa gave me boots and a hat. If I knew how great the boots and hat were thenI would of never messed them up as a young man 😭. The boots still look new but the hat not so much. Still last very well and I haven’t met boots and hat to last so long.
I hat a pair if western boots as a kid just the walmart deal and i had a few cowboy / westerns hat and i found a fedora cross over western hat that i wear recent now i wear a pair of bufflo skin work boots that could be country cross over
I love Buffalo hide boots. I wear them too. They wear better and last longer than any other material I've tried. Since I have an actual job that I wear boots for that's really important
I want to learn this trade, problem is to many people look at color verses quality I wrk hard at all I do. A hat and boots don't make a "Cowboy" I do the wrk that most don't want to do in alot of different types of environments to find my way which is to help and serve the people Thanks for the information
No it ain’t weird. Cowboy is a representation of the kind of man you are not just your job. I get people ask me all the time, “ are you a real cowboy?” I just give the old Travolta reply, “depends on what you think a real cowboy is”. 🤠
@@Dstrbrdgrnd I always felt like anyone that at least drives a truck that it’s more acceptable than the guy that drives a Ford Fusion. Never been to a rodeo but want to. Whenever I’m at the stockyards in Fort Worth, or the country bars I feel like I’ll just be laughed at because I would be coming out of a four door car with a cowboy hat rather than a truck.
@@martig8755 never been to a rodeo? You need to go, you will see people from all walks of life driving many different vehicles but have one purpose, not to judge anybody or be judged. My first rodeo was in 1961, I was 9. Roy Rogers and crew were the high lite guests along with the horses and chariots from Ben Hur. That was in Bonifay, Fla., been to rodeo’s in Vegas and outside L. A., have rodeo cowboy friends in DAVIE, Fla., in fact one was the South East bulldog champ in the ‘80’s. You’ll really fall in love with rodeo, always exciting. Pretty horses and fast women🤠 by the way, I’ve driven everything from a VW bug, El Camino and now a Lincoln Town Car.
I hope you're not saying here that "you make hats" or are you saying that you get rough blocks from one of the big three hat makers?? As far as I know there are only three hat manufactures, Resistol/Stetson, and the one in Great Britain. So you have to play in the rodeo arena to wear a cowboy hat. What about a tough old dude who ranches in -40 in Wyoming but has never rode rough stock or roped in front of crowd. I'm unworthy to wear a cowboy hat??
I reshaped my stetson it was pretty easy not saying this guy isn't right about it being hard. Because he does it all the time but just saying it can be done. I Could not do boots though pretty impressive trade.
Sometimes what I WANT is 180 degrees from what I can AFFORD ! Here's a prime example - - I WANT a 100x pure beaver hat , what I actually BOUGHT is a Tilley air flo hat !!

Don't question for a second buying a good hat. Cowboy or not. Haters will hate. It is nice to see someone dressed different than the usual T-shirt and jeans/sweatpants. I figure if someone laughs at me. At least I got their attention and made their day happy.

its not about the custom hat. its about your custom shape. i use the 1970 bull riders crown with a pin roll on the brim and a ffa pin on the front

It’s hard for me to find a good pair of boots because of how rough I am on boots. A good pair of boots will last me 6 months to a year.
U may try gettin them reworked/soled. good boots can last years & years.
