I have a sand filter. You explained my issues very well. LOL. Good to know that it's actually bacteria. I'm constantly having to introduce air into the sludge by raking the sand once a month. After raking, the water level may go down 6". The sludge is black in color and is usually 1-1/2" thick. Are there other ways to introduce air into the sand box? I'm thinking placing a small pond fountain inside the box to keep the water moving. Maybe run it off solar due to my sand box (filter) being located on the back of our property. Thanks for the information.
If you have a way to add an aerator to the sand filter, that should help. I would start by finding out if there is already an aerator that is not functioning. If one was never installed, you could install one to add air to the sand filter. If you google search for "septic tank aerator" you should find several options.
Thank you for the video and sharing your wisdom. I’m curious if you ever encounter any form anaerobic digester tanks as alternative systems to traditional septic? Also, for future videos I would suggest trying to include visuals: pictures, diagrams, stock video of things you are describing, bullet points or comparison charts. Including graphics and more interactive visuals will help your audience engagement and understanding. Great content-thank you, again, for sharing. Kindly, APD
Thanks APD for your suggestions! We don't see any anaerobic digester tanks in our area. Most systems have the goal to generate aerobic bacterial growth.
