Glad it wasn’t just me. His reaction actually caught me by surprise as I’m so used to IRL streamers only caring about themselves.
The fact you could tell he was genuinely upset that the camera man just let something like that happen and didn’t say a word restored a bit of faith in humanity.
Like someone else said it’s a low bar, but I’ll give credit where credit is due, especially since they attempted to question him later on it.

I've seen schizophrenic teens make very complex and dangerous trips, just for very bizarre reasons and have trouble remembering to eat and sleep and to go home ever.. I came for an annual punk rock concert commemorating the riot in Tompkins square and lingered in the area and got to know some interesting ppl but after few days I left and they were still in the same spot...)

And that apology to him and his family, despite the nature of his crimes, really was a genuinely kind thing to do. It's easy to dehumanize people based on their crimes, but that's not really the best way of looking at such cases. Especially when they had people who cared about them and undoubtedly experienced a lot of stress and grief over their loved one's mental state and crimes.

My cousin is schizophrenic and is having a hard time getting his meds adjusted and covered; this could literally happen to anyone. I can't blame the people who thought he was high or something. How are they supposed to know its a mental condition? Dude really DID sound drunk or under the influence. I don't think we can demonize strangers who think "that guy is kinda weird" to someone they don't know. If a random dude came up to you and acted like that you would feel weird too.

people are way too quick to get angry instead of just... educating like a kind person. we cant demonize every "microaggression" a normal person does when they straight up don't know any better. people on the internet expect everyone to know everything or get shunned if they don't and forget you just learn from mistakes. its so annoying

There is a very well known schizophrenic guy in my neighborhood. He sounds very much like this, he's generally very nice and he has family that takes care of him but they just can't seem to find the correct combination of therapy and meds.
I wouldn't blame anyone for thinking he was drunk or on hard drugs because that's definitely what he comes across as on some of his worse days.
These guys really weren't that unfriendly to him and honestly what else were they supposed to do? You don't call the cops on every slightly strange person you meet.

Its a very complicated issue in Hawaii and I recognize that these sentiments shouldnt carry over broadly to every “haole” or scenario (such as this one), but thats is very likely where these sentinments are coming from.
In Hawaii locals are often frustrated by transplants of fetishize their culture/ homeland while also making it harder for them to live there.
