A lot of it comes down to how you hold it. Naturally, you want the cross guard to run the same direction as your arm as that is how you would do it with a sword. If you do that though, you can't do lightsaber moves with it. If you have the cross guard running perpendicular to your arm, it is easier to not hit your arm but harder to not hit your back or stomach on a hand switch. You need one grip for spins and flips and one grip for hand switches.
@@DarthCephalus Saberforge have two hilts based off a Claymore with the quillions (new to lightsaber so I don't know if you do or don't use that term) pointing up in a V shape instead of a T. The coolest thing about the crossguard lightsaber (really kylo Ren) is when kylo walks forward, stops, slouches, then activates his lightsaber, then a second later the actual guard comes on that was the coolest startup for a lightsaber ever
How this works is that he uses a special unstable crystal. 1 outvent is not enough for it, so he needed two more out vents for the extra heat to pass through.
His blades are also unstable (you can see the plasma.) Because of the unstable crystal. How a normal lightsaber works: th-cam.com/video/KduIzGhnb5c/w-d-xo.html&feature=emb_logo
Behind the back pass is one of the few impressive moves looking I've done with a regular cross guard sword. I guess the cross is somewhat smaller, and also less "deadly" though.
The cross guard is extremely difficult actually. The hilt sits quite large in your hand and the issue I keep running into with my cross guard is moving it just right so the vents don’t hit my wrists. I’m new to all these saber tricks and I’m an idiot for choosing the cross guard as my beginner learning saber. It looks badass but it’s so difficult. I might pick up a cheap Anakin saber just bc the hilt is extremely plain and smooth so I won’t continue to rub my hands raw while I’m just practicing haha. But yeah don’t underestimate the cross guard...
I'd figured the crossguard saber would react more like a broad sword or a bastard sword it looks like I'm partly right. Edit: also get the feeling the cross guard would have been paired with a lightsaber shield if there was more lore on it
Ok, Crossguard Sabers were a thing when Jedi Knight were *actually* Jedi *Knights*, in that case picture this; a circular shield out of pure beskar, then with a few channels and heat sinks added around the edges. Boom, Kyber Sword and Kyber Shield.
I figured that if struggle to get tricks with this version, but it's what I'm renting for my costume, quest event thingy. Hopefully I can get a few moves. Other wise I will just have to go clump clump clump like in the original movies
more or less. Wood swords have a different weight distribution than a lightsaber, and part of the aesthetic of a lightsaber is that you don't touch the crossguard spikes, which you can do with wood. But all the moves still work.
Vaapad/Juyo, and Djem so would be the best forms, as all but Niman focuses on aggression, and pure combat. I don't see this saber being effective at deflecting bolts.
Hello! I'm asking for help! :( I recently ordered a archmage crossguard saber but the actual top piece to the saber is missing. Is it sold separately?? Like it was a lot of money and they only gave me the handle and the hilt pieces but not the major saber piece.
What kind of side blades did you use in this video? Acrylic from Ripper Blades or Poly-Carbonate from the other companies? Also, what length were your side blades? Pointed or rounded tips?
I'm making a crossguard pike saber and would love to know what moves to practice? It's basically a crossguard version of the weapon the emperor's shadow guard from legends use.
Pike moves are a different creature. You can find a lot about them in martial arts. There are a lot of thrusts with the back hand securing the pike and the front hand sliding back so it can lash out quickly and a lot of what are basically disengages. Basically look up pike or pole arm tutorials.
The hilts are large, heavy, and rough to the touch so they are pretty difficult. I’m a beginner and when I bought it I didn’t realize that these are definitely not beginner saber. I don’t regret buying it necessarily bc it’s badass but I will probably be purchasing a cheap saber until I get the basics down. Also the vents are difficult too bc if you don’t hold it just right, they’ll “slice” your hands and wrists.
This just goes to show that they could have actually done some really cool shit with this lightsaber in the new movies. Wasted potential if you ask me.
That and both orders have crumbled. With the neanderthal like fighting is due to no training. Compared to the old Jedis and Sith with hundreds of hours or even days of training

So... about that whole reverse grip thing... nearly everything with reverse grip can be done quite easily. I have full evidence of this with the first video I made with a crossguard.
Ah. Yes that is the crossguard. This was an early video right after I got one. I am more fluid with it now, but the reverse obiani is tricky with the spikes and the added weight. You have to go very wide to adjust for it and not hit yourself.
kylo ren aint got nothing on you.
Kyle Solo is a manchild
Spinning skills are not easy to perform cuz the Crossguard may hit your arm when you spin the Crossguard Lightsaber.

Actually the cross guard lightsaber is the same length as any normal lightsaber just with two baby lightsabers at the side.
The cross guard lightsaber actually one of the most deadliest lightsaber in the star wars universe. The most deadliest lightsaber is the lightsaber

Can u make a video showing how to do different things like this step by step, for beginners, with a normal lightsaber?
look at the playlist on my channel titled “Ninan: a guide to lightsaber flow arts”
That was supposed to be niman

Darth Cephalus lol I have an ultra savers saver now I just commented that cuz I was still waiting for it and tryna pass time by using the wooden one
Impressive. Most impressive. In your opinion which lightsaber forms work well with this type of lightsaber and which ones do not?
The forms as they exist are all interpretation, but for my versions, I would say 6 and 7
I would say Form 2 as that is what it was invented for but as it acts likes a claymore and from my own practice with one, Djem So is the main one
Vaapad/Juyo, and Djem so would be the best forms, as all but Niman focuses on aggression, and pure combat. I don't see this saber being effective at deflecting bolts.

not really knowing the details, I can’t really help with that. You should contact the place you bought it from.
Is the cross guard the black series one?
Nope. It is an Ultrasabers. I don’t recommend spinning a black series Crossguard.

Practice. We all start out looking awkward. Look awkward long enough and you figure out how not to.
I got a question, do you think form 2 lightsaber combat is a good form to use with a crossguard lightsaber?
I would say it would not matter. My understanding of form 2 is that 99% of the time you are using the point of the blade.
Nothings stopping me from doing it with a normal saber
I can tell he practices
Well ovcourse he does
Yeah, he has a lot of sloppy moves that he did in the video though.
Are those easier than they look? Cause they seem somewhat difficult.
Mostly it is the weight. These sabers are by far heavier than anything else I own. You start to get used to it though.
The hilts are large, heavy, and rough to the touch so they are pretty difficult. I’m a beginner and when I bought it I didn’t realize that these are definitely not beginner saber. I really want an angled cross guard saber. I know saberforge makes them I'm just iffy on them.
the idea is good, but I think they look odd personally.
imagine if we figure out a way to make an inquisitor saber staff
We could but then we will have to find a way to make it move and for the wires to be independent

Your can’t do those moves on a straight saber--PLEASE J/k I can’t do them on either saber. Nice moves.
reverse obi-ani is not right
In the sense that it should not exist or in the sense that you do it differently?
Darth Cephalus when you bring the saber behind your back you should make an arc with the saber, just like in the "normal" obi ani, btw nice moves :)
Maybe its because of the crossguard, then sorry :)
