  • Edit: Throttle cables also need to be removed. To remove throttle cables. Take off the cover plate, then loosen the lockdown nut on each cable. Don't touch the adjustment nut. If the throttle cable stumps you, I highly recommend not working on the carb.
The other method to remove the carb would be to loosen carb clamps, remove hoses and cables, place the bike on jack or stand, remove seat bolts and seat, remove sub-frame bolt, remove rear wheel bolt, take off drive chain, and pull back sub-frame to make room to remove carb.

That's pretty much what I was thinking, but it's reassuring to see someone else has done it. Having to remove the subframe to get the carbs out seems crazy. Thanks

What about the throttle cable on the opposite side?

he skipped right over all the cables and the electrical connection. nothing like a 'how to' video that says, "you just do this" yet never shows it actually being done, just skips to the carb in his hand. what a joke.

You remove the cover plate, then remove the throttle cables. It's very simple. Only loosen the lockdown nut on the cables.

@@fishonkayakadventure If you can't figure out how to take off a throttle cable, you have zero business tearing into the carb.

Do you have issues with carb hanging up when you put it back… something to do with throttle cables?… I put new cables and it hangs open

The whole time I was watching this I thought, this might be a bad idea on an old bike as rubber tends to dry rot. Than you addressed it, nicely done. Personally yanking the sub frame on my yz is a quick job though, maybe the WR has more to the job?

no, it's literally 1 bolt. you do have to remove the seat though, but still, it's not really a big deal at all to drop the subframe back.

Seat, sub-frame bolt, rear wheel bolt, drive chain... You will also need a bike jack or stand for this method.

wow.. can it be that simple? I am gathering information before I attempt to remove my carb. I can't believe I would have to remove the tank, seat, rear frame, etc. just to service the carb!!
I'm "older than most" and I was a motorcycle mechanic in the 1970's. Bikes were VERY simple then compared to the newer bikes! Plus it's just a stupid engineering mistake by Yamaha!! Why not make it so you can pull out the air box quickly/easily and then pull the carb out?
