"It's much more important to find out what interests you than to be successful; it's much better to be able to be absorbed than to be very good at something."

Lacan did not say "Love is giving what you do not have to somebody who does not exist" but "Love is giving something you haven't got to somebody who doesn't want it".

Basics of life: The 10 commandments, educate yourself and THINK before you speak.
    T - Is it True?
    H - Is it Helpful?
    I - Is it Inspiring?
    N - Is it Necessary?
    K - Is it Kind?

Really interesting :) I didn't know that psychotherapy had such a negative fame already. I was under the impression that it was still common.
It was fascinating to think that the remaining "few" who practice it are doing it for the love of it, as Adam Phillips is. His views were really balanced and fair, and I look forward reading some essays from him :)

An expensive pair of sympathetic ears for the very very needy and overly sensitives

What nonsense they speaks about atheism. As if the utility, of the fact that a subject's belief in a transcendental being allows that subject to explore their psyche, all of a sudden justifies the use of a delusion necessitated by that same subjects neurosis as bases for that subject's understanding of their psyche. The phrase, "The blind, leading the blind" comes to mind. People have to come to terms with the modern rational view, they need to incorporate this new outlook into themselves in such a way that it acts as a positive inspiration and not an impediment for happiness or a fulfilled life. They themselves speak of atheists with sacred beliefs, meaning that the range of experience\expression allowed in religion, can in fact be generated in any of other sphere of experience.
