@K B She's still in the red even if she lives alone though. $1700 rent/utilities, $400 car expenses, $400 food budget and a $40 phone leave her $115 in debt. Yea, the answer is that the woman should have made better decisions so she didn't get herself into the situation where she is trying to support a family in a very high cost of living area with an absolutely entry level job. But that answer wouldn't be politically correct, especially to socialist Porter.
The cost of living is getting too High for the average person . Average rent in Washington state is $1600 for something decent but not nice. Gallon of milk without chemical is $6. Think about it. If people’s wages continue to be stagnant, and the cost of living continues to rise, there will be another recession.
Couldnt be the ever increasing cost to operate a business, i.e taxes and such. You people love to spend others money. Tax tax tax is your answer to everything. Well enjoy your bed you made it. Lol
Exactly. These commenters that see these questions as an attack clearly aren't paying attention. The gouges and inflation is happening nationally. It's not that people can't be paid more. It's that companies figured it out during the housing crash when people were desperate: if most companies make it the policy to underpay and overwork average employees, the top execs and shareholders get to keep increasing their net worth. All of the oversight is gone. Labor unions except for a few industries are a thing of the past, and there is no stopping the money train from the political side as long as we don't support Justice Democrats.
Nothing changes. These are shows that democrats put on to get progressives to vote for them...but they are meaningless. Elizabeth Warren is one who puts on big shows, scolding banks for the cameras, but does nothing. In 2016, after some some showy performances, she supported the bankers democrat candidate, Hillary Clinton ( who was Wall Street's choice). The politicians are just putting on shows, nothing more, it's all manipulation. Absolutely Meaningless.
It doesn’t matter who here can justify that “some people just make more than others”. If he went to every Ivy League school created AND has 30 years experience, there is still NO EXCUSE for a disparity that size between people working for the same company. Thank God for this woman shining that light. While no one speaks up, the greed festers in the dark. Dirty dirty business.
But if she has a child and the rent is expensive , how's that Dimon's fault. The pay disparity is there , she may have 3 more kids so what is the company supposed to do? Rent is California is insane , its important to bring the cost of living under control too.
Well, where is the husband in this equation? And she'll get the taxes she paid back at the end of the year. She'll also get free child care tax credit as well. Her first problem is not being married. Second problem is living in California. Gazillions of people are single parents with one, two, or three kids making it. They're not looking to big daddy government to fix their problems. They fix it themselves.

Alex Rivas I think I’ve said this before, we can not create our own scenarios in order to justify the wrong here. The reality in America is most kids aren’t planned, there’s some laws now preventing some people from having abortions and some are underage and unable to get one without parental consent. Not many people opt for adoption because America has this weird backwards ideology that if you’re not for a child you shouldn’t have one but if you do you’re completely responsible for the child and shouldn’t put the burden on someone else. She had her kid and personally I think she’s doing the best she can for the situation and the job she has and the place she has to live. Yes she could move maybe that will fix the rent but the reality is in a lot of places the rent goes up at least 50-100 every year of living there. Sometimes it’s not the people it’s the corporations. I truly empathize with someone who finds themselves in a financially difficult situation, as I have been there myself, but the first and most important problem with this scenario is that this woman decided to have a child and live in one of the most expensive cities in the United States without the financial means to do so. I don't presume to know what lead her to this unfortunate situation, but I can guarantee that at least SOME poor decisions were involved on her part. Step 1: If you don't have financial and relationship stability, DO NOT HAVE CHILDREN. Step 2: If you ignored step 1 and/or made mistakes and find yourself with a child as a single parent, then reach out to one of the many organizations that are designed to help people in this kind of crisis. Step 3: Relocate to a less expensive area. Step 4: Apply for better paying jobs. Individual wages vs overall company profitability has always been in the front of these type of conversations... It remains a debate from both sides of the aisle, but everyone has to fight for their own grounds... It is simply a tug of war in life, and if your job isn't paying as much as making ends meet, then, it is YOU who has to make the jump rather than the company you're working at. Nowadays, jobs are like clothes. If you don't like a certain shirt or pants that Old Navy makes, for an example, you wouldn't just stand there and complain and cry that they dont make clothes "you like", would you? You'd simply walk next door to Kohl's and find THE one to buy... Also, people have to wake up and see reality for themselves and quit just relying on "elected few" to speak for us. It's great to have support amongst ranking congressmen and inside the government buildings, but we all have to learn to take our step foward in making our own lives better each day. If you're young, your focus is on yourself NOW. Get yourselves ready now for your offspring in the future!

It’s crazy, all he could say was “we cold pay her more. I could get paid less.” Jesus Christ you can’t live off of a little less than $31 million salary.
You can't legislate the cost of living, or the compensation that a company pays it's employees. The woman has an entry level job, with a child, living on her own. That's the first problem. If you want to know why everything is so expense you only need to look at congress and deficit spending. That leads to taking out loans on the debt, and to chip away at that debt the Fed artificially creates money into the supply which lowers the value of the dollar - that's inflation. Today's dollar is worth 97% less than it was worth in 1913.
Does anyone actually believe it's the responsibility of every employer to make sure their employee can live on the salary they've agreed to ? Patrick Naera Nope. The question was all spin to create a "gotcha" moment for the camera. She knew she wouldn't get an answer and knew the gentleman couldn't answer, that's why she asked it. From some quick googling I found that the average 1 bedroom apt in LA costs $2,100 pm. With that said, when talking about a salary that should be able to afford that average rent price we SHOULD NOT compare the basic starter salary as a bank teller (video say about $28k pa). We should compare apples with apples, averages with averages. So an average LA rental cost of $2.1k and an average LA salary which is, according to google $62k pa. We can conclude that someone earning under *half the average* LA salary should not be expected to rent an *average* apartment. The real answer should be: "This fictional lady you talk about should make better financial decisions and make extreme changes in her household consumption. Spending less on food and moving to a cheaper apartment may be a good start." However in context a dumb leading question does not warrant a good and proper response. As to why he declined to answer.

Your welcome.

Maybe try fixing the housing market that's killing people's ability to exist fiscally before lecturing companies about their business models.
@@gghs9162 yea when u can get billions from bailout , gambling money and Ponzi schemes who cares about business model right
Obviously, its not the Ceo fault for her situation and not only that, his company gave her a job. Sooo...
You need a reality check. She is doing the work so she deserves a fair wage. What is he doing that warrants him getting that much and only her so little. Please stop spreading your ignorance. Workers dont have to feel grateful. They are not asking for charity. They are earning that money by working.
Or we could wonder if he really is worth his salary i am sure one can get the same quality of leadership for a fraction of the price.
Mela-nee Gibx, stop been stupid
As an european, I cringe when I hear these prices. 40 dollars for a cell phone? 200 dollars for the lowest food budget? With 200 euros I have food for the entire month, for two people, with everything I want.
I love her so much!!! Brilliant fantastic leader!
Katie's up for reelection next yr. Don't forget to help. (I donate, and I'm in Ct.) Some people are irreplaceable.
@@moiramurphy6517 as a Republican, I say put her in front of the TV cameras as often as possible. We would consider her almost as helpful as AOC!!!!!!
Thank you for drawing this out Katie!!
It’s despicable.
"I don't know, I'd have to think about it"
Does anyone actually believe it's the responsibility of every employer to make sure their employee can live on the salary they've agreed to ? If that was the case, she would never have gotten the job in the first place. Her whole argument is ridiculous. If Dimon is responsible for her not being able to live on her salary, isn't Porter then responsible for her not being able to afford rent in Irvine?
Just my observation. These new and young DEMs are ruthless and on point...no dramatics and overplaying the emotive language phrases...facts, examples and serious questions.
The real answer should be:
"This fictional lady you talk about should make better financial decisions and make extreme changes in her household consumption. Spending less on food and moving to a cheaper apartment may be a good start."
However in context a dumb leading question does not warrant a good and proper response. As to why he declined to answer.
And they totally embrace Socialism. No logic. No expectation of responsibility on the part of citizens. Just want to provide handouts in return for votes. Yea, that is these new and young DEMs.
"I have to think about this."
No.
You *had* to think about this. That's your job.
If you can't answer such questions, maybe you shouldn't have that job.
*The bank literally bought dislike bots for this video*
No a lot of people just saw that what she was doing was useless and with no meaning
The women in that situation has accepted said job with said pay so it isnt his fault that she had a child that type of job isn't ment to support a family
I'm not a bot
Why is the CEO responsible for this woman’s life choices? Legendary response, id have to think about it! That’s code for there’s nothing to think about haha
bruv still thinking about it
KATIE YOU ARE THE BOMB!!!!
How come the senator never asked where the Dad is? 😆
OJ D because he’s smarter than that and knew that would have been exactly what that Congress woman wanted to hear.
Why does this woman in the example have to have an apartment that is 66% of her income? That's way to high, and she needs to learn how to budget.
It's an example of typical rent costs in the area outlined in the example. Living wages as opposed to minimum wages should take into account cost of living for people in areas where they want to have their businesses operating.
@@EmsLdn but why does she have to live in that area? We live in a neighboring smaller town to lower costs of living, so we can afford a house. Everyone has to make the choice of living close to work paying higher, or living farther away for less and commuting
@@sambogrub1 exactly right.... It is just flawed logic..... She does not need to live in Irvin. I get that some areas are expensive but hey, it is what it is. DO not be a single parent trying to start out on your own with no experience in one of the most expensive cities.....
I wish libs remembered that there was once a time, when if you lived in a poor or to rich of an area with no opportunities for personal growth... you loaded a wagon and walked across the country and started new some where new.... Now, we are so lazy and complacent we expect everything at the tip of our hands and complain when we can get it... let alone have to earn it....
@@EmsLdn Typical so Average? But she doesn't make Average pay, so she should live in cheaper housing.
My respect to this Congresswoman!
Stay healthy and safe!🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
I wonder why the woman had a child before she was financially able to support it?
Says the same country who makes contraception expensive and the fact that she was already in the red before taking childcare into consideration.
Taking into the why if the argument is callous as it could be a multitude of situations that could have left this woman with a child.
Maybe that women should have thought about not having children - it is her own incompetence that put her in a deficit position.
Rep. Porter would be better off focusing on bringing down the cost of housing in her district rather than trying to make companies increase their salary expense. $1600 for a 1bd is completely absurd.
