Fake Medicine in Pakistan | How to Identify Fake or Real Medicines?

Pakistan’s markets sell fake medicines, pills, capsules, tablets, and syrups of all types, for every type of ailment. This was reported many times but today I am showing you how fake medicines are sold with just a change in packaging box and slight variation of names.
Although, the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan has carried out many raids to curtail the fake drug trade, the problems still persists.
According to the Pakistani Pharmacist Association, there are approximately 4,000 licensed pharmacies in Pakistan, but also as many as 100,000 other illegal merchants selling medications.
The packaging is made to look beautiful and attractive so that the patient never comes to know what's inside it. Counterfeit medicines cheat the patient. The copies don't work and the patients don't recover. Of course laws and rules exist but they are not implemented in this country.

Sir you have left the basic fact '' salt formula'' of the medicine. If there are spelling mistakes of the salt formula, then the medicine is really fake. Just on the name of medicine you cannot tell that the medicine is fake. Yes and the most important factor who regulates or allow different medicine with such price gap.

Medicine with low price does not mean that it is of low quality. 1 Flagyl 400 mg tablet costs about 1.89 rupees only. Most of the medicines you mentioned are registered by DRAP. Complete details of that medicine is available at DRAP website including its manufacturer name and where it is being made. you are telling the difference between brand vs generic medicines. Brand medicines are unnecessarily very pricey as compared to generic medicines.

Wholesale prices are always cheaper than retail prices because in wholesale, profit margin is low, medicines are sells to variety of outlets, less competition in the market at wholesale level, investment capital is very high and there are no expenses in advertisment or shop etc. Manufacturer sets the prices keeping in mind the retailer expenses (store rent, advertisment, labor, electricity charges etc). Printed price is the upper limit of retail price. But that is not the case with wholesaler who buys directly from manufacturer and sells in bulk to retailers and doesnot have the expenses like retailers and thus can sell at a very low cost.

ڈاکٹر بھی پرچی ایسے لکھتے ہیں جیسے پہلی جماعت کے بچے کی لکھائی ھو اور مزے کی بات اس کو کوئی بھی نہی پڑھ سکتا مگر میڈیکل سٹور والے آسانی سے پڑھ لیتے ہیں کوئی ایسا طریقہ بتائیں کہ جب بندہ پہلی بار بار دوائی لینے جاۓ تو اس کو پتہ چل جائے کہ یہ اصل ھے یہ نقل ھے

Bhatti sb be advised to improve his knowledge. Drug Testing Labs exist in all provinces and there are five Drug Testing Labs in punjab only including Lahore.Faisalabad.Multan.Rawalpindi n Bahawalpur. If he considers fake he must get it checked from any of these labs in comparison with Risek and Novidat.

سالٹ دونوں کا ایک ہی ہوتا ہے۔ اس میں فرق نہیں ہوتا ، بہتر ہوتا کہ آپ دونوں دوائیوں کا لیبارٹری میں ٹیسٹ کراتے اور پھر بات کرتے۔
ملٹی نیشنل کمپنیاں ڈاکٹروں کو دوائی لکھنے کے بہت پیسے دیتی ہیں بلکہ رشوت میں ان کو بیرون ممالک کے دورے بھی کراتی ہیں اور غریب عوام کی کھال اتارتی ہیں۔
لوکل کمپنی کی دوائیں زیادہ تر چھوٹے پریکٹیشنرز استعمال کرتے ہیں اور عوام کی کھال اتارتے ہیں۔
جس ملٹی نیشنل کمپنی کی ایک دوا پاکستان میں ہزار روپے کی بے اسی کمپنی کی وہی دوا انڈیا میں سو روپے کی بے۔

Sir I loved your effort but there are somethings which I think need more investigation. I have myself worked with a pharma company at higher level and have visited many manufacturing companies i know the manufacturing cost is almost 5 to 12 percent of net price.10 to 15 percent is distributor margin 10 percent medical stores or sometimes 15 percent.35 to 40 percent is doctor share and rest is the franchise margin. Note the cost of medicine is literally too low. Also it's basically DRAP which don't allow you to register drug with less price as comparative price has to be assigned to all medicines. If they are sold on original prices even risek should not cost more than 75 to 80 rupees

multinational companies have a monopoly on medicines and having high prices due to kickback to doctors, If DRAP registered the mentioned company and his medicine then what is the problem if a national company repacking the ingredients,
It means DRAP has not enough capability to follow their SOP for repacking medicines.
yes, price is the issue. you should start an awareness program for prices and generic medicines instead of multination company's medicines vs national company's medicines.
