The Late Dr. Jack Van Impe explained the probability of Christ our Living Savior fulfilling prophecy in a way which even the most novice can understand. I miss Him and his wife are Ella expounding on scripture and teaching on prophecy in a manner that all can understand.

    Good effort and great results.

We have proof when the documents were written. The prophecies were written in the Old testament. A group of books that can be proven to be written before Jesus was ever born. It's just historical fact... the first evidence of the Torah (aka the first five books of the Bible) shows up around 444 BCE. I'm not trying to be mean, but you're wanting to say the Bible is just fiction written by an influential person, but that belief is more fictional than you think the Bible is.
Do some research, keep an open mind. Jesus loves you as much as anyone else, and having doubt doesn't make you wrong in and of itself, but when you continue to doubt despite so much evidence you become blind to the truth. You want so bad to believe it's not true that you'll do anything to continue to live in your ignorance. I too didn't believe once, but the truth became overwhelming when I finally closed my mouth and opened my mind. My prayer for you is that you will do the same.

Does the calculation consider factors such as 'prophecies that were made but never fulfilled'? Does it account for the possibility of 'human minds actively making choices that led to the fulfillment of prophecies'? Has anyone conducted an equivalent analysis comparing the prophecies of other religions?
From what I've read, Stoner's work doesn't address 'prophecies that were made but never fulfilled', the potential influence of 'human minds actively making choices that led to the fulfillment of prophecies', nor does it provide an equivalent analysis comparing the prophecies of other religions.
All in all these numbers are very flawed and we should stop citing this study. It does a disservice to christian apologists by making them look uneducated.

The Bible is the most heavily modified and edited single document in history. Most of it well after “AD”. Easy for predictions to come true when you are editing a book with a theme / goal in mind and some knowledge of history. Not sure this guy’s audience is being well served by this discussion. The real story here is a discussion of the evolution of the Bible as a work of literature and not a “holy text”.

Hebrews 7:3: States that Christ has "neither beginning of days nor end of life".

Hebrews 13:8: States that "Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today, yes and forever".

Colossians 1:16: States that Jesus created all things and upholds all things by the word of his power.

John 1:1-2: States that Jesus was eternally present before his creation.

John 3:16: Promises that those who ask Jesus into their life will spend eternity in heaven with him.

John 17:3: States that eternal life is knowing the only true God and Jesus Christ.

Jesus is eternal. And with Him being the maker of time means He is outside of time. Jesus is just as relevant today than He was in the past. Jesus still saves. 🤍

@@farvision i am doing just that, am I not? You should apply the same to yourself. You dont seem open minded based on your other comment.
For instance, no serious historian claims it is not even sure if Jesus was an actual person or just a myth.
If based on nothing else, even sceptics acknowledge six of pauls letters as authenticly pauline, and they dont make any sense without jesus to the degree that they could not have even be written. And then there is Josephus Flavius, Suetonius...
If you are honestly open minded, read some Gary Habermas or William Lane Craig.

@@gergelypasztorkicsi7854 William Lane Craig always has bad arguments. I don't know Habermas, but will look. The person for you to listen to is Bart Ehrman. As far as I know, and I'm a scientist, not a historian, there is no evidence for Jesus outside the bible. The mentions of Jesus are something like 40 or 50 years later and in passing.

@@farvision okay, we obviously disagree on w.l.craig :)
On the other hand, I dont think that 40 50 years later would be considered late (especially concerning that we have earlier mentions in writings that are from before 63 in the bible which are accepted by sceptic scientists as first century writings):
      en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Authorship_of_the_Pauline_epistles
Also, its not surprising that there are not many mentions from before that, in a political sense, jesus wasnt an overtly important figure in the roman empire.
But jewish historian Josephus Flavius (who died in 100) still mentioned him.
Btw, here is a non christian article for jesus's existence (not deity) quoting a lot from Ehrman: www.google.com/amp/s/www.history.com/.amp/news/was-jesus-real-historical-evidence

I don't know any scientist or student of the scientific method would would embark on this project without first asking the fundamental question: "Were any of the books of the Bible modified from their original form AFTER the events in question took place." The fact is that they were ALL modified, changed, many completely erased in the centuries "AD". The entire premise of the "research" is flawed making it impossible to reach the conclusion in this video. One of my biggest concerns with stuff like this is that it is basically telling people to abandon critical thinking and believe in miracles - when the real answers are so readily apparent.

  • @farvision

All the prophecies are in the bible, right? The bible was written and rewritten by many people, so many that we don't have the originals anymore and there are many differing variations. So it would be easy to make the stories fit the prophecies - it makes a better story when they do! So any calculation based on this mythology is meaningless. What you need and do not have is a bunch of independent sources for the life of Jesus.
But there are none. It isn't even clear that there was a person Jesus since the things claimed for him match the claims for many other gods - like walking on water and being from a virgin birth. You can make up anything in a mythology.
This reminds me of the illegitimate computations of "intelligent design proponents" who would do a computation of how likely
a DNA or protein string is. They always neglect the mechanism we know happens, which is small SUCCESSIVE changes. From many
small changes directed by natural selection (a concept they have never been able to wrap their brains around though they have been told it hundreds of times and it is not complicated - which means they are dishonest or really really stupid) it is NOT LEGAL mathematically to multiply to get the probability. Indeed, the probability that creatures will evolve is near 1, not the tiny number they incorrectly compute.
So stop pretending you know what you are doing with your math.

Although we may not have the originals, we have Old Testament manuscripts from the Dead Sea scrolls, some of which date significantly before the time of Christ. The Isaiah scroll specifically (which contains many prophecies about Jesus) was dated around 200 BC, approximately 200 years before the time of Jesus. Also, you need only to look at the magnitude of ancient manuscripts (and their reliability/how they compare to each other) to understand that the chances of the Bible being meaningfully changed over time are near zero. Especially when compared to other ancient documents. Also, it’s entirely dishonest to claim that there are no outside and non-Christian sources confirming the life of Jesus as well as the other events in the Bible. There are plenty - anyone who actually looks into the evidence, whether Christian or atheist or otherwise, understands that Jesus was a historical figure. Here’s a little taste of that: There are more than 30 sources outside of the Bible, written within 150 years of Jesus’ life that attest to more than 100 facts regarding Jesus’ life, teachings, crucifixion, and resurrection. (See: The Historical Jesus: Ancient Evidence for the Life of Christ by Gary R. Habermas). Some of these other sources include:
      A. Cornelius Tacitus (ca. A.D. 55 -120) a Roman Historian
      B. Gaius Suetonius (the chief secretary of Emperor Hadrian (A.D. 117 -138), etc. alwaysbeready.com/can-we-trust-the-bible/#extrabiblical-writings

There is so much misinformation in your response, it's hard to know where to begin. I truly pray you don't actually believe the things you wrote and are simply attempting to get a response. First, the historicity of the Bible, to any sensible person, is no longer in question. There are more early supporting texts to support the accuracy of the Bible than any work in history (literally thousands). And all of the early supporting documents clearly disprove the lie that the Bible has been "changed" and "edited". Couple that with the fact that EVERY known archaeological discovery that has Biblically-related content has proven exactly what the Bible says, and there really remains little room for honest doubt.
To your point about intelligent design and evolution. The ONLY thing the theory of evolution supports IS the small, successive changes. It COMPLETELY fails to define either the origin of life OR type/species changes in organisms (you know, the LARGE/important stuff). The complete failure of ANY advancement in the past 70 years since the HIGHLY flawed Miller/Urey experiment, despite MILLIONS of dollars invested, lends further credence to this clear weakness in the theory.
Allow me to point you in the direction of some good information - "Darwin's Doubt" by Stephen C. Meyer, "Is Atheism Dead?" by Eric Metaxas, "Fabricating Jesus" by Craig A. Evans, and "The Case for the Real Jesus" by Lee Strobel are all full of information with related citations that may prove helpful for you. I pray you entertain this information with an open heart AND mind. Godspeed
