This video will cover computer science careers and as well as different areas within computer science you can dive into. Computer science is a very broad and diverse field that includes software development, cryptography, cyber security, computer graphics, bioinformatics, and much more.
Although many people imagine a software developer when it comes to computer science, there are many more job titles you can have including security analyst, web developer, network systems administrator, etc.
Many of the jobs listed in this video have the highest employment and growth rate of most jobs on the bureau of labor statistics. This major and career path isn't necessarily for everyone, but it definitely is a good choice.
Lastly for many of the careers discussed in this video, you don't HAVE to have a degree in computer science to get into them. For some career paths you can have a degree in computer engineering, software engineering, information systems, and more. There are even people who are self taught and have landed software developer jobs. Be sure to keep an open mind, but hopefully this provides some insight.

MajorPrep Thank you so much for this video. I really like your TH-cam channel. I'm currently in college taking general ed classes. My major is computer science and I really don't know where to start off and what classes to take as a beginner. Would you mind making a video on what classes/ courses cs students should consider taking in their freshman year in details by listing all the prerequisites for any programming language and all other cs courses. Because that's what confuses me a lot. Some people tell you to take java first while some others tell you to take C++ or C#, python, ruby, HTML & CSS etc. I would really like specific guide or path to follow so that I can pursue cs degree without confusion. In addition to that, I have no prior coding experience. I am an absolute beginner. Please give me some suggestions.

I loved this video...very well done and refreshing compared to the other "Career Overview" videos I've seen for Computer Science. I have a degree in Biology and have already written down those genetics companies you mentioned so that I can see their job posts, and if I have a potential future in bioinformatics by the time I get some CS classes under my belt. Honestly the CS industry as a whole seems like a playground - so many interesting things: security, cryptography, image/video rendering, mobile app development, new algorithms. Thank you again.

Let me note that "Computer Graphics" programming doesn't only involve images. There's been some work on writing GPGPU software, i.e. CUDA/OpenCL, that accelerates system processes that are traditionally given to CPUs. In particular, anything that can benefit from parallel computing will need GPU software.

Great video! I'd like to add (after 15 years in this field) that depending on what you do in computer science, self-teaching is often way more important than the degree itself, as this field requires that you're constantly up-to-date with its crazy evolving pace and Universities just can't keep up. The most important thing is to be curious, curious and curious to always learn new notions and to apply those to your job.

Best part is that you don't actually need any college for some of these. You can be self taught.
Job requirements are usually more of a wish list than actual requirements. If you have the skills, apply anyways.

this video is great thanks for info just one question. Im currently studying information technology right now but i also want to work in aviation field particularly as avionics technician. My question is would my degree be suitable for such career since avionics tech is all about the software/hardware and all that techi stuff inside the plane....

Hi, I just wanted to say that your videos are great and they have helped me. I was also wondering if it was possible for me to get my Master's in physics if I was to enter computer science in my undergraduate.

Anyone that knows for sure please answer this question. If I major in “electrical engineering and computer science” will I be learning a little bit of each or will I learn as much as an ee major and a cs major combined?
