On icy roads the smaller diesel is more manageable than my wife's 2018 Ram 2500 4wd 3.42 ratio 6.7L, and some of that is the gear ratio. While the 3.73 ratio works nicer, a 4.10 ratio would be better. The inline engine keeps the turbo cooler. But if I bought one of the new Chevy diesel pickups. I would have the dealer change the gear ratio to something more useful. If fuel economy matters, just drive 65mph or less. At 62mph, my '23 Jeep Wrangler gets 29-30mpg. For HD trucks that are designed for daily heavy towing I could see fleet owners coming out ahead a bit. Then again the 10k body off head gasket/injector job pays for an awful lot of gasoline.
I was under the impression that diesels need to work hard and get hot so short trips aren’t good as the engine doesn’t get up to optimal running temperature.inheard GMC uses a google system now and Apple car play/Android auto is discontinued. Diesel here in Canada is roughly 20-21 cents more than regular gasoline on average so operating costs as well as general maintenance is will cost you more per mile than gasoline vehicles. Servicing and cost of parts is so much more so theres def no cost savings.
First, that’s old diesel knowledge. New diesel’s won’t let you turn them off if they need regen. Second, the GM on Apple being discontinued is just on EVs.
No difflocks (front or rear!!). They are available in Silverado and Sierra and Canyon..etc. Only 2" lift and big tires; this is not enough to call it Z71.
I love this! Even though I hate how diesels aren't really environmentally friendly and produces many harmful emissions! But the mpg is unbeatable for this size!
It's a popular engine choice, with great capabilities. At least in the Silverado/Sierra it can tow up to 13,000 lbs or it can get 29 mpg unladen. With the Tahoe/Suburban I think a lot of the capabilities are hindered with the GM choice for the SUV suspension setup.

@@texas737pilot according to the TSB, if you tow a lot, you’ll burn more. I don’t tow all the time and I stopped worrying about it.
Hey Tim-
Great review
Nice looking!😊
Good video about the Tahoe, when I see a Tahoe I already imagine FBI agents throwing people inside to be interrogated hahahahah, leaving the jokes aside, I thought it was a nice car with a good Duramax turbo and I would definitely have one.
Great video !!!
What do you have to do to get a HUD in these things? Saw High Country didn’t have it either…
Great video.
Thats a badass rig!!
Is it available? or is that a trial car? Also, how loud is the engine while driving and in idle? That is my wife's one concern.
My dream suv ❤❤.
No ambient light in 2025?
Any truth to some online news saying GM is stopping the production of the 3.0 diesel because of upcoming emission restrictions?
Zero truth. Garbage reporting making assumptions about the EPA. I’ve talked with people who work with the EPA from the manufacturing side. No truth at all to those reports.
Please do a night drive section and does it come with ambient lighting?
It’s in this video.
Nice vehicle. Diesels always cost the same or more than gas to operate in the end, so whatever your preference. Save on fuel and pay a big bill later if you keep it for long enough. 6.2 and the 3 liter are both nice engines. Hopefully this obvious, and true, statement doesn't stir the pot right up.
They cost more for maintenance, parts and service. You pay a premium for the engine right off the bat.
@@IrishNew Yeah I know I owned one for 52k miles. Whatever you save it gets recollected and then some. Only a matter of time. Journalists and media always talk about them being cheap to own and run. Talk to any diesel mechanic about that idea lol.
@@peiguy1982 agreed. I work for an Operations dept and have talked to the mechanics that service the many vehicles and they told me Diesel is not cheaper unless your towing everyday, all day.
@@IrishNew Yeah good point heavy towing daily different story. My ecodiesel would do 15 mpg towing vs about 10 mpg with the Hemi. For HD trucks that are designed for daily heavy towing I could see fleet owners coming out ahead a bit. Then again the 10k body off head gasket/injector job pays for an awful lot of gasoline.
What was your average mpg?
Low 20s.
@@Pickuptrucktalk Hopefully with 10,000 miles on the clicker its mpg will hit 30 mpg or higher. Thoughts?
What about REGEN?
@@anthonycervassi1400 Such a non-issue. I did several videos on it with the Silverado LZ0 I had in 2022 into 2023. You don’t even notice it.
awesome thank you for your time
@@anthonycervassi1400 anytime. I did 41 videos on the Silverado LZ0. Grab a bag of popcorn and hit play!! 😂
@@Pickuptrucktalk LOL winter is setting in will do
Does anybody care to learn how to seat the piston rings on a new engine ? I was taught this decades ago and it definitely works !
@@scottymoondogjakubin4766 Nothing you need to do anymore. Engines are basically broken in when they leave the factory.
@1:19 how expensive is the oil change?
It is about $80 at a dealer. That’s what I paid.
Where?
There.
Does it have a HUD?
This one did.
My 2024 Chevy 1500 LZO uses ZERO oil .
What is 0 to 60? Thanks!
@@flapflapflap Hmm… Not sure. I didn’t even think of doing that test.
Faster then the 5.3 and 2.7 but a bit slower then the 6.2 .
Hmmm I live in Waco kinda of crazy see your video of Waco…
Nice video
Nice!
That's old school thinking on diesels. Today's diesels are much cleaner and much better for CO2 emissions.
Can’t wait to see and hear it deleted
80k is too much!!! Should be 65k or so
Too bad w can’t buy one. GM has the diesel delayed until mid 2025
Wow
I wouldn't be showing off my kids if that's how they came out lmao
Крутая машина
I thought GM was doing away with the 3.0.
Where did you get that idea?
It's a popular engine choice, with great capabilities. At least in the Silverado/Sierra it can tow up to 13,000 lbs or it can get 29 mpg unladen. With the Tahoe/Suburban I think a lot of the capabilities are hindered with the GM choice for the SUV suspension setup.
@@Pickuptrucktalk I had seen a video on it that said it was because of emissions.
@@charliej.2716 someone must have made a bad assumption. GM's Mark Reuss just touted its success at an investor day. It isn't going away anytime soon.
@@99-Zulu Independent rear suspension has its pros and cons. However, what bumper pull camper weighs more than 8k lbs loaded down? And what would you actually tow with the Tahoe at 13k lbs? I've never found a single thing.
Sooooo what was the real world fuel economy??? With math and not the trip computer
Obviously I didn't do the paper calculation since that would have been very misleading.
@ wait... the paper calculation with a calculator is very misleading compared to the trip computer on the truck ???? You have that backwards my friend.... what was the paper calculation with a calculator for this trip ? Did you do one?
@@tomkeen9421 You missed my point. I did a LOT of idling. That’s why I said that on camera.
I did discuss the fuel economy with the idling comment.
I’ve done paper vs computer calculations for the better part of a decade. It really isn’t that much different FYI anymore. It used to be a big deal. Now it is off by about .5 mpg on most occasions. Really not worth it anymore.
80k. Average Joe cant afford this i am out
just another truck for the rich. or they think there rich
I would get a used Ford Excursion over any brand new full size SUV or I would get a 70s or 80s or 90s used Suburban over a brand new one.
Why?
@Pickuptrucktalk Why not maybe because I look at the vehicles of the past and I like those looks of vehicles. And why is it a problem to go to a used vehicle? I see no problem with going used or pre-owned over a new vehicle I like the Excursion and I like the look of the Square body Chevys and GMCs. And I like the older body styles of vehicles from Ford Ram and the GM twins I see no problem with my comment. I think also a lot of people buy new vehicles not for the right reasons. And that's why a lot of the things in vehicles I dislike and why vehicles are so jacked up in price. And to me a lot of times going used or pre-owned is not a bad thing like people claim it to be. Not everyone needs a new vehicle they just buy a vehicle because they want the next best thing like with phones as well. People have lost touch with wants and needs this is how I live my life and how I was raised. And this is what I believe in maybe you see it differently but I live this what my father taught this and I stand by it.
@@Pickuptrucktalk I'm not trying to be mean if I come off mean my apologies I just think the Excursion is a good vehicle for a family vehicle and the GM twins of Suburban but I like he square body's of the GM trucks from watching the movie Dante's Peak seeing that old school Suburban square body one looks awesome to me vehicles from the past looked so much cooler in my opinion.
@@Pickuptrucktalk I'm 35 years old and for me I find that also to much tech is something that I do not like and for me I rather have some but not over bearing or way too much I like simple and easy and to me sometimes simple is way better then too much tech or having tech that's my opinion.
