These documentaries were broadcast on the A&E network when it was good. Wednesday nights. My kids were small at that time. I used to watch this program while I rocked them to sleep. Thanks for posting.

steelerfaninerie I was a child then and remember watching them as well. There are many things I think that make these older docs good, I think a big part of it is the works was simpler back then. Good and evil was more black and white especially when the USSR was still around.

whoever put this film together is not very knowledgeable about aircraft or their paint schemes the Navy does not camouflage their planes the Air Force says so why are there several videos or clips of videos that show camouflaged Thunder Chiefs oh, this is supposed to be a video about carriers the Thunder Chief was never operated by the Navy only the Air Force

By far, without question or, any shadow of a doubt, the best aviators wear NAVY BLUE!!!!! I like to see "Chair Force" aviator weenies do what MY Naval aviators do, without hesitation, land a multi-million dollar plane on a the space no bigger than a football field on.a multi-BILLION dollar carrier. Ohh, and, at night and, in inclement weather, too!!! Yeah. Good luck, Spanky!!!!

      @@derekchristophernordbye7710 ,. DA,
The F-117s that made the opening Salvos in both Iraq wars flew from Holloman AF base in N Mex all the way to Baghdad and back without ever landing.
B-1s regularly fly from Guam to N Korea without landing.
We have aircraft far superior to anything on an Aircraft Carrier all over Japan, including F-22s.
F-22s regularly intercept, and turn back, Russian Nuclear bombers.....
Even the F-111 bombers used to attack Libya came from bases in England.
B-52s bombed N Vietnam? They didn't come from an Aircraft Carrier.
A-10s that give ground support to the grunts? Not from Aircraft Carriers...

While there are Air Force pilots who’ve cross-trained with the Navy and earned their carrier wings, they will be the first ones to tell you that you can’t just bring any old plane aboard without training on that platform. It’s not a directly transferable skill (especially when it’s not designed to fly like that).
AF Jets aren't designed to land on an Aircraft Carrier.....They're designed for awesomeness...

@@unitedwestand5100 YES. While some Air Force pilots HAVE cross-trained aboard aircraft carriers, you guys do NOT do that as a day-to-day regimen. I challenge ANY Air Force jock to go through the hell of air-to-air combat, with all that it entails, try to DIAL DOWN HIS HEART RATE, BREATHING, ETC SO HE CAN GET THAT MULTI-MILLION DOLLAR PLANE ON A MULTI-BILLION DOLLAR SHIP AND, LAND IT ON A SPACE NO BIGGER THAN THE INFIELD OF A BASEBALL DIAMOND!!!! LET HIM TRY THAT AT NIGHT, UNDER NO MOON OR, STARS TO HELP GUIDE HIM/HER TO THEIR SHIP. LET THAT PILOT, ALSO, TRY TO DO THAT WITH ALL SORTS OF SHIT GOING HAYWIRE!!! But, you say that aircraft you have are superior to what we have aboard ship. That may be so, "Chair Force brat." But, like I said, it's NOT the Chair Force or, the Army or, the Marine Corps that forms the primary line of defense for the Republic. IT'S THE NAVY, KNOTHEAD!!!.

Historical trivia for ya: in what part of the country was the Fairchild-Republic A-10 Thunderbolt 2 (aka, The 'Hog!!') built???
In all seriousness, though. When it hits the fan, bro. What colors do we bleed???
And, too, as a Marine Corps friend of mine said: "It takes all 5 to win a war!!!"
      Been nice debating you, bro.
Finally, someone out there with more than 2 working brain cells in their head!!!

This is what the late-former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Colin Powell, had to say about the United States Navy's carrier battle group: "The presence of the carrier battle group is an ever-present reminder to, BOTH, friend AND, FOE, ALIKE, THAT THE POWER OF THE UNITED STATES 🇺🇸 IS JUST OVER THE HORIZON!!!"

The U.S. could defeat the entire world combined in conventional warfare if determined and unhindered. All that is required is control of key trade points and disruption of oil supply. Nuclear weapons may be around awhile me thinks.

Ill definately have to remember that bias next time im watching a UK produced doc on the sinking of the Hood. You know because obviously it was "just a lucky shot" by the Bismarck and not a completely flawed design concept still in service 20 years after three others blew up in the exact same way. But i suppose bias only happens in US produced docs....

"It was never lost", Harriers were so super, duperly effective that the royal navy never lost. Oh, except for THIS:
HMS Alacrity - slightly damaged by bomb near misses
HMS Glamorgan - slightly damaged by bomb near misses, all off Stanley by Daggers of FAA Grupo 6.
HMS SHEFFIELD - mortally damaged south east of Falklands by Exocet missile fired by Super Etendard of CANA 2 Esc. Burnt out and sank in tow.
HMS Glasgow - moderately damaged off Stanley by unexploded bomb (1) dropped by A-4B Skyhawks of FAA Grupo 5. Bomb passed through hull but damage took some days to repair and she shortly returned to UK.
HMS Antrim - seriously damaged in Falkland Sound outside San Carlos Water by unexploded bomb (2) dropped by Daggers of FAA Grupo 6. UXB removed but damage took some days to repair.
HMS Broadsword - slightly damaged outside San Carlos Water by cannon fire from Daggers of Grupo 6.
HMS Argonaut - slightly damaged outside San Carlos Water by rockets and cannon fire from Aermacchi MB.339A of CANA 1 Esc, and then seriously damaged by two unexploded bombs (3/4) dropped by A-4B Skyhawks of FAA Grupo 5. Removing the UXB's and carrying out repairs took a number of days and although declared operational, she soon sailed for the UK.
HMS Brilliant - slightly damaged outside San Carlos Water by cannon fire from Daggers of Grupo 6. (Different attack from "Broadsword")
HMS ARDENT - badly damaged in Grantham Sound by bombs - hits, UXB's (5+) and near misses - dropped by Daggers of Grupo 6, then mortally damaged by bombs from A-4Q Skyhawks of CANA 3 Esc off North West Island. Sank the following evening.
HMS ANTELOPE - damaged in San Carlos Water by two unexploded bombs (6/7) dropped by A-4B Skyhawks of Grupo 5. One of the bombs exploded that evening while being defused and she caught fire and sank next day.
RFA Sir Galahad - damaged by unexploded bomb (8) and out of action for some days,
RFA Sir Lancelot - damaged by unexploded bomb (9) and not fully operational for almost three weeks,
RFA Sir Bedivere - slightly damaged by glancing bomb, all in San Carlos Water probably by A-4C Skyhawks of FAA Grupo 4.
HMS Broadsword - damaged north of Pebble Island by bomb from A-4B Skyhawk of Grupo 5 bouncing up through her stern and out again to land in the sea.
HMS COVENTRY - sunk north of Pebble Island in same attack by three bombs.
ATLANTIC CONVEYOR - mortally damaged north east of Falklands by Exocet missile fired by Super Etendard of CANA 2 Esc. Burnt out and later sank in tow.
British Wye - hit north of South Georgia by bomb dropped by C-130 Hercules of FAA Grupo 1 which bounced into the sea without exploding
HMS Plymouth - damaged in Falkland Sound off San Carlos Water by four unexploded bombs (10-13) from Daggers of FAA Grupo 6.
RFA SIR GALAHAD - mortally damaged off Fitzroy by bombs from A-4B Skyhawks of Grupo 5 and burnt out. Later in June towed out to sea and sunk as a war grave.
RFA Sir Tristram - badly damaged off Fitzroy in same attack and abandoned, but later returned to UK and repaired.
LCU F4, HMS Fearless - sunk in Choiseul Sound by bomb from A-4B Skyhawk of Grupo 5.
HMS Glamorgan - damaged off Stanley by land-based Exocet missile.
