Marcia Brady's date was only going out with her so he could steal Greg's football playbook! #BradyBunch | Now streaming on Paramount+ Where to watch: para.mt/BradyBunch
In the world of football reality, this episode makes sense and is clear only to Sherwood Schwartz. Memorizing the opponents playbook would not help you one bit since this is high school and they will know all the plays that they are running anyway. So its like, great, know our plays. Now, guess which play we are going to run from down to down? They have no idea.
The Brady Bunch was about a Loving family that had issues, fought, struggled and Still came out of it--a caring family. The episodes were Morality Tales and archetypal characters that taught a Lesson with some light-hearted comedy & fun thrown. That's why the show has endured in popularity.
This same scenario today, he would point a gun at Marcia, demanding to get the book and would hurl awful insults at her, and the scene would probably end up being violent possibly with Greg involved, with stupid sinister music playing in the background.
It's not about the other team. It's about personal integrity. Winning that way doesn't mean anything, because it's no longer about athletic ability but about disinformation. We can go over it again if you need to.
Luckily the writers are a bit smarter than you and realized that getting used would be more upsetting than being yelled at by your sister and had him leave her alone.
It’s not smart to let people off the hook for being rude or mean, just because they’ve been “upset.” Oh sorry for calling you an a*hole earlier; I was upset about something so you should just leave me alone. Brilliant logic.
Mike is behaving like a total simp here. Deception and decoys in the form of false signals are used all the time in amateur and pro games, and this is not really any different. Hoisting Jerry with his own petard isn't cheating.
We know that cheating in sports has gone on all the time, even way before the days of the Brady Bunch. Mostly, every individual, team, and/or owner has tried to get an advantage on their competitors by any means necessary, legal or otherwise. You would never think that HS players would stoop that low to steal another opponent's playbook, but then the world doesn't run on sunshine, rainbows, lollipops, puppies, and Wonka bars with unlimited gold lottery tickets. BTW. To be honest, Mike was trying to teach his sons the value of fair play and good sportsmanship. In fact, in today's HS sports, Greg probably could have been penalized for making up the fake playbook, himself, just trying to teach Jerry Rogers a lesson for stealing his playbook. The HS Athletic Associations don't like their competitors cheating, but they don't like others seeking revenge or any type of retaliation against players or schools. In essence, Mike wasn't being a "simp." He was being a good father.
In the eight years I played youth fastpitch softball in Canada, I spent plenty of time trying to steal the other teams signals--usually with success. I'd even attend games my team wasn't involved in to try to steal both teams' signals. It's part of the game.

Mike makes it seem like Jerry’s teammates were innocents in his scheme. They would have had to have knowledge of Greg’s team’s plays for the scheme to work. That makes them as culpable as he is.
Mr Brady said it was 'dishonest' No it wasn't. It would only be dishonest if the teams agreed to exchange playbooks the way some do game film. Then if the book was changed it would be dishonest. But no one put a gun to Jerry's head and forced him to steal it.
@@stephaniegormley9982 agreed! The same way it's not on the teacher if they change a test and students fail because they tried to cheat, even if the teacher knew they stole the answers. Also, since Greg called the other guy, you would think he would figure that Greg would also get his team to change the plays anyway. What happens at Fairview is on them.
Probably was hoping they would believe it was misplaced. The bigger question is why it would be out in the open instead of at least in Greg's room safely stored.

A coach with half a brain probably doesn't put it into the game plan because they might think that Westdale will notice a playbook going missing after someone from the other team was in the player's house
There are times when Dads are correct in their roles as Dad but this time he was wrong. The opposing team should use stolen plays and when they find out they'll know they have a dishonest player who will be kicked off the team.
Jerry got benched in the first quarter. What probably happened is that Fairview players were going one way and Westdale the other and the coaches were wondering what the heck is going on.
There is so much inconsistency in this series that only had 5 season? First Mike taught the guys to play baseball and football. Then Carol didn’t want Greg playing cause he might get hurt. Then he took a photo during a game and it showed whether the guy in or out and he became an official photographer. Then suddenly he has a play book and writes up phoney plays.
