I think if you have watched some of the Ren interviews, he quite distinctly says he is very introverted and quite a private person. Take that and complicate it with his illness, to me this track is Ren struggling to come to terms with that conflict he now has with his success that he has always craved. A double edged sword. Also, I think the only voice on this track is Ren's. He has an amazing range. Thanks - Enjoy your philosophy even though you claim to not be one.
Thanks for another thoughtful and thought provoking reaction Izzy. The female voice at the end is just part of the backing track Ren used - Cruel Intentions by BeatMagik. As far as I can remember Ren said he didn't know what she is actually saying, just that he liked the track :) He used it with permission and credited them accordingly btw.
let's hope he doesn't get into the same troubles as with "Sick Boi" and that Hungarian Choir and that this female sample was properly licensed in the first place by BeatMagik when Ren licensed "Cruel intentions" from Diamond Style.

I had to pause the video and go watch an interview with REN so I had better context. His rhymes and writing remind me a bit of Eminem but with a Spiritual undertone. Thanks for the introduction ❤

Also Ren can sing exceptionally well. Ren can compose, write and sing his hooks, Eminem has a feature in his raps to do the hooks. But I know what you mean. Last Eminem album had, anti-christ, evil, and Lucifer, so negative spiritual (in your face) tones I guess.

Hey Izzy, interesting reaction! I find it intriguing that Ren often finds himself metaphorically imprisoned by his own choices and actions. Especially since he is a self proclaimed introvert. He was isolated by his illness. He is somewhat cloistered (alone time necessary to create his art) by his choice of profession. His treatment kept him secluded from loved ones in Calgary. His rapidly growing notoriety will compel some sequestration from the public. Is it possible he is subconsciously making choices that necessitate a bit of introversion and seclusion. Isolation does keep you safe from disappointment to a certain degree. At the same time I see him keeping the Renegades involved and quite close for reassurance. Furthermore, he has such desire to protect and uplift people. Ren is such a fascinating creature! Love him. Take care. 😉💙🇺🇸💙✌️

"Thoughts are things." I used to say this to myself regularly, to remind myself of their importance in manifesting materiality, and to avoid negative thought loops. The universe could be described as a great thought, or THE great thought of the Creator.

Loved your thoughts on this. This song kind of reminds me of Hi Ren with the back and forth between the cheeky, happy Ren and the sick introverted Ren. Such a deep song that stimulates so much thought and introspection. The female at the end is a sample that Ren used 💜💜

I always found the chorus familiar in this too, but did hear somewhere that good music will sound familiar, even if you have never heard it before. Regardless, there is something that triggers a nostalgia I cant quite place from the first time I heard the chorus in this song. If you come up with a similar song, please let us know!

If you want a storytelling song, Another New World is beautifully haunting. Harrisburg was the first thing I ever heard from him 20 years ago and it's still one of my favorite songs.

Public vs private persona. Trying to pretend to be normal and ordinary while not.
Living through an illness that traps you inside your house and inside your mind....your body is killing you and you cannot understand why; it's such a difficult situation to reconcile. Imagine the hours Ren spent seeking answers and the variety of paths he took.
After 60+ years my philosophy is simply to exist, and to try to be kind and accepting.

Thoughts as spirits... And what kind of a traitorous spirit is the thought of thoughts as spirits? The one, if true, revealing itself and others, manifesting itself in your speech and pointing a finger at others for taking part in the battle for consciousness that it just won, spreading even further than just your brain, all the way to mine. Terry Pratchett's character Tiffany Aching speaks of Thoughts and then Second Thoughts that are of thinking and then Third Thoughts, which I believe you just made me have.

I very deep into meditation so weed and mushrooms are a small part of it, but I can go on vacation for two weeks and i am not like man i really miss the shrooms. I think when it interferes with your actual health , family or bills. That is when you need to step back and ask yourself why do you need this and is it making you a better person? But there were 3 in this song - the fan - the perception of what the Ren the star is and then the real Ren the introvert dealing with health issues. And its very human to say something doesnt exist because i cannot see it, but also very childlike. Things exist before they are discovered, like saying does a tree make a sound when it falls? of course it does, you think things only make sounds when humans are there to hear it.

Caught it in the car door! It did hurt, but the human body is amazing, it's almost completely healed 10 days later.
This is my least favourite Ren track. Seems to celebrate his illness, rather than than offer hope, as in Troubles.
