Gen 3 schrade viper, ive had one for at least 5 years and it still opens no problem. One of the best $50 id ever spent , and i think it's still $50 nowadays
Still cracks me up when I see how much Benchmade charges for the Infidel… wobbly D2 blade and all lol. Glad they finally got an upgraded design but good lord $300 for a polymer OTF?
Torture tests show it to be really strong. Lots of people always complain about the grivory scales of benchmade knives when in reality, no one ever uses their knives hard enough for it to be a concern. Regardless, benchmade’s pricing is pretty damn ridiculous.
@@Pugrug.I definitely have to agree benchmade knives are over priced. The shootout really impresses me after using it for a few months. True my microtechs hold and edge a little longer but that cruwear is easily touched up and plenty tough. I think I’d buy it again but I only paid 210
For anyone wondering Ultratech vs UTX, the UTX85 has a very very similar blade length to the Ultratech while having a more compact and proportional handle. Highly recommended, not a “small” knife at all.
I love how you make the cheap plastic handle of the Benchmade sound like a positive thing lol. Sure it is for weight savings, but that just makes the price even more egregious. I also don’t think that many people really care about weight in their knife.
Not just their OTFs my wife recently bought me a 940-1 knowing my love for carbon fiber lol and they were well over 300 dollars. It’s a great blade for me being a spyderco guy. if not for a gift I would of never even tried it though. I know their warranties are great and all but the prices are just getting outrageous
Solid 8.5/10 very very slight blade play smooth action and the blade is centered but man do I hate how the screws stick through the scales talk about just killing the premium thing for me. But it does find its way in my pocket quite a bit
I'm just fine with $20 Chinese knockoffs on DH Gate. If you have to ditch one because you don't want the cops to find it on you, it's better to throw $20 out the window than $300. LOL
buying a couple of them are fun if you're never going to spend $300+, but impossible to get parts or repair for them compared to a microtech or kershaw, plus its bad for the industry as a whole to support clones
I said the same thing but none of them lasted longer than a yr for me and I get tired of buying junk shit. Get better edge retention especially with UTX
@@MrSlipknot424213 Australia, knives pretty restricted even in the 80s where completely illegal. Mine was smuggled in from Bali, was really cheap but still very cool 😎. It's not too bad though lot's of cool folders available just can't carry in public.
Thankfully I found a local knife store to try a lot of Benchmade's otfs. The shootout's action is awful. Also, it is thick and totally impractical is an EDC. I am not sure what that tools intended use is.
I’ve got a Cobratec and for the price it’s actually awesome, razor sharp out the box, stiff action at first but with some use it got smooth, if your looking for a more budget friendly option definitely check them out, and they are American made 😁z
This is pretty cool especially since I'm scared of knives and don't like knives that just fly out near my fingers, while this just comes out pretty far from your fingers.
I agreed about MT and Kershaw knives, but Shootout feels as a cheap plastic beanbag. Even AKC's F16 feels much better in sound and quality. I believe that Houge is the best OTF producer in price quality perspective.
I love me some girth lol. But forreal the microtech is good even tho the quality has gone downhill over the past few years its still better than most otfs. The benchmade is garbage and always will be garbage. Like the infidel 400 plus for a d2 blade with tons of play and a mushy action. All benchmades are over priced and very lacking in quality these days. The only exceptions being the griptilian and the 940. The kershaw is pretty good for the money, it and the 85 are the best options of the 3 for sure.
DEMONSTRATE THE SIDE TO SIDE PLAY That’s the one thing I hate with OTF knives Show that these are better quality to convince me because as of yet every one I’ve owned has jiggled back and fourth and it’s really Annoying.
Otfs are pretty interesting in that regard. You either pay less than 100 bucks and get something either crappy or just mediocre, or you get something above 250 and have one of the best knives you’ve ever used. My guess would be the complexity and precision of the design, along with making it sturdy. An ultratech is one beast of a knife, it’ll tank whatever you throw at it.
@ezraterry9948 you have a good point. When I was in my twenties, they were half as much as they cost today, but that was around two and all half decades ago. Inflation bites.
I’ve held one before 0/10 do not recommend. It’s really plasticy and feels cheap. The microtech I can recommend as durable and well worth every penny idk about the kershaw
Benchmade prices all of their autos as if they’re any different than other nicer knives. Especially their folding autos. They are literally just one of their folders with a spring. Same locking mechanism and everything. Not to mentioned benchmade helped cut up guns. I won’t buy anymore. Terrible prices aren’t the only reason.
@@KimballPrecisionI will never support a company that is against the 2nd. F*'k Benchmade. I guess you cant really be surprised by a company thats near Portland.
@MikeMikeSmith I was referring to a microtech for half the price, with better steel. Not a knockoff. It’s a completely different design, better materials, also made in the US by a more patriotic company. Go be dumb somewhere else.
I am reaaaally bothered by any OTF that doesn't have a two sided blade. Such a waste of the medium. One of the biggest downfalls of pocketable knives has always been that a folding format does not easily facilitate a two sided blade. This is where the otf should shine.

Ah, a man of taste. 😌
The microtech one is John wick's knife! ❤
Guardian Tactical Recon 040 is the best OTF I’ve ever owned.
I have all of these, not to boast or anything. But I do agree with these choices, they all have fast and reliable action.

Don’t even get me started on the Taggedout
That shootout is a beast! I love mine
Overpriced junk is what it is
A beast?🤣🤣 it’s plastic for $300
Is Benchmade still Lifetime Guaranteed?, I was told I was Grandfathered in from not having to register my knife also the Krate😊
Can you do best otf knives below like $150😅😅
You guys deliver or ship to canada?
Are we all just going to ignore that the Livewire is MagnaCut, not 20CV?
All I heard with the shootout was “all the same price of a reliable metal frame without all that pesky reliable material” 😂
I never see anyone mention the benchmade phaeton, why is that?
Benchmade refused to engrave “If found please leave in the nearest prostitute” on my knife.
LiveWire more my style 🙊
Guardian tactical recon-035 is better than any benchmade and arguably Microtech otf don’t know about the livewire
