  • It's beautiful, it's complicated, it's important? Luca shows us how the storied and venerable tourbillon works, and in the process we learn just how useful it is. Or maybe isn't!

The giant (working!) plastic tourbillon was worth the price of admission.

By far your BEST video yet, stellar job Luca (PS I love that 3D printed tourbillon, very cool!)

I just couldn’t get the idea of tourbillon but once you gave the comparison to a beeper - everything is clear now! Didn’t need a beeper black then so I don’t need a tourbillon watch now. Thanks Luca! From Luka

This is a useful and entertaining video. Impressive that you can 3d print one! I like the analogy of putting a beeper inside a cell phone

Best explanation yet of how a tourbillon works and why it is not needed, thanks. It is a very pretty complication.

I totally agree, it's a complication that is unnecessary in a wristwatch. But as usual in this hobby it's 🐎 for courses.

This is by far the funniest video I've seen on WatchTube, and the best explanation of the Torbjorn to date.

Great video! Since I'll never be able to afford a tourbillon, how much would it cost to purchase that 3D model from you guys?? Seriously, is it for sale?

Wow! The best explanation of a tourbillon I have ever seen and your model and explaining of its relative uselessness today is right. However, in the right watch it is a beautiful, historic ornament that functions in a small way in a modern watch. Thank You!

The Englishman John Arnold invented the Tourbillon but his friend Louis Breguet made the first working example.

You did not just 3-D print a working tourbillon? Get outta here!
Great stuff. I would have like a word on how the tourbillon escapement connects to the watch. I gather there is gear at the bottom that turns with the tourbillon and connects to the mechanism.

Great video. So will any certified chronometer/ master chronometer be on par (for the most part) with a tourbillon?

  • @tomnewham1269

I would imagine the torbillon be good in a desk clock as it is always upright and if it has a clear back all the better.

Well, you got your 3d printed tourbillon working better than mine right now 😂
Still fiddling with it, it only lasts like 5 seconds at most before stopping

Have you had a Toblerone recently? These cheap asses have made it so it has less peaks and more valleys, reducing the amount of chocolate by a significant margin. Not cool! The Swiss luxury chocolate industry has gone to pot.

So glad to actually hear someone explain what specifically the "effects of gravity" are on an escapement I think people usually just say that without knowing at all what the effects are
