    in 2015 Nvidia Flex tried to do something very similar with fluids and softbody physics but no one really used it to its full potential back then. Glad to see similar technology re-emerge on better hardware

      I would love to make my own Meditation Videos for my songs, just short ones with water, but UE5 water system is not really as realistic as hoped - only if you pay 400 Dollar ... for a plugin... which i find very expensive ... Is there a better way to make realistic water? Houdini can make it very realistic - but you need very deep knowhow and its also not free.

      It is steel better stay on UE 4.2X with Flex physics plugin if you wanna get realistic realtime physics in your project, even if you run on RTX 40XX as we can see on the video, it runs on 4090 and it's not playable yet, 50-60 fps with sometime falls at 20-30 fps, I think 4090 & Flex give us 70-90 fps, need to check but I don't have 4090.

      I am currently working on Unity 2021 with my game but it is limited in performance. On my dev rig when UE 5 have 120 fps unity can drops to 30 on almost empty scene. I am seriously thinking to switch to UE5 when it will be production ready.

      @@LukiGames0 I'm using both UE5 and Unity, and when you get 30fps in Unity on an empty scene you probably have set vsync to 30fps, Unity is in general better with performance, because it has a less complex shader pipeline.

    Fluid simulation themselves seem very niche in their use case BUT, if it is at all possible to bake it into EXR or even better yet VDB, a lot more can be done with the simulations for a lot better performance. This could pose as a serious competitor to embergen.

    Does anyone know of a good tutorial how to do tidal waves. I have an island and the ocean around it looks soooo fake and the waves just bounce up and down - which makes no sense next to a beach. Is it something I need to animate or add wind to the ocean or something like that to create the shore wave effect?

    • @carlowisse
      @carlowisse 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Look at Oceanology. From there you could code a tidal wave. If you want Realtime fluid simulations with physical attributions, you will need to create destructible meshes that react to the force created by the waves OR use something like Voxel Technology. If you do not want to do super real life looking water simulations, you could use a wave mesh with an animated material and programmatically move it. This would look slightly strange if not executed well but would save you time in creating a quick and easy destruction wave that can affect physics actors in the level.
      My personal recommendation is to use Oceanology 5, paired with some form of water physics that you code (or there are some great free projects on GitHub for this) and programmatically alter the water in sequence to create the tidal wave affect. The physics portion of the task will simulate destruction for you, so long as you set your destructible meshes to react accordingly (set their damage tolerance low). I have done something like this with Oceanology 5 and my own physics set up using Apex at first and now Chaos. The waves can wipe out towns, trees and more. The physics set up is quite in-depth though and I use a few tricks to make it work properly and smoothly. I can run it on large scale but full disclosure I have an Nvidia RTX 3090 + AMD Ryzen 9 5950X 16-Core Processor + 128Gbs of Ram - all of which are liquid cooled. destroying an entire open world in real time takes a lot but is doable.
      If you are not looking for destruction, then Oceanology 5 is the go-to create a tidal wave for the sake of having that visual. You will need to do some work though as it does not support tidal waves out of the box.
      As I come to the end of writing all this, I do note that you said tidal wave and it clicked that tidal waves ARE NOT tsunamis haha. If it is pure tidal waves that you are after, Oceanology is the answer. That is working out of the box.

    • @benjones5799
      @benjones5799 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yea, don't expect that. This is a very basic low res sim (as it needs to be to stay real-time). To look real you would need millions of times the fluid resolution and foam particles. Doing a reasonable-looking beach sim even with something like pheonix fd in 3ds max, will take you many hours to simulate (not to mention a huge amount of ram), and then often days to render. You would probably be better off doing a sim in pheonix or something, and exporting the resultant mesh, and faking the foam with textures (trying to keep the camera far enough away to keep the illusion)... maybe even using niagra to fake the foam a bit.
