    There was a guy on the Helix subreddit recently who apparently works for Line6, and he said they were working on better reverbs for a future update.

    I find adding about 130ms of predelay to reverbs really makes them "bloom"

    I think a lot of times people forget to think about it in real world scenarios. If you want an amp style spring reverb sound where is it usually? After the amp and before the speakers. Same for amp style Tremolo. Same for the rotary speaker effects (except set it up to turn off the cab sim when the rotary turns on). If you stick it after the cab sim it would be more like adding it at the board or after the fact with a plugin in a DAW. If you put it before the amp it will act more as a standalone reverb unit, like in a space echo or like the old fender unit or a pedal. The amp is going to drive the reverbs just as it would if you stuck the reverb before a drive pedal. All are cool tones, but they all sound and react differently. It just depends on what you're going for.

    • @AlexKubacki
      @AlexKubacki 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That was exactly my first thought! I usually tend to use a 4 block setup for time-based effects, same as I would with series effects loop on my amp: pre-amp -> reverb -> power amp -> cab

  • @WawakGuitar

    I like adding different reverbs together.
    The spring reverb SHOULD be in front of the amp. After all it is being fed into the amp on a combo.

  • @EdPettersen
    @EdPettersen 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I would also probably EQ the reverb differently depending on before or after the amp placement. Great job buddy.

  • @KeithShelley1
    @KeithShelley1 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Great tip about the Spring reverb! I usually run a 63 Spring in between the amp and cab to get a more "authentic" tone but putting it in front of the preamp sounds phenomenal as well. Thanks!

    @RyanWright 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    15:10 when that tremolo effect comes in the sound you are getting super cool man. Very "spacey" sounding.
    You ought to upload this to Custom Tone as a "template" for us mere mortals. :)

    This is exactly what people are asking for. Reverbs that perhaps use up more DSP, but give you more ways to draw attention to the reverberation. Great hack Jason. I'd love to play around with your preset 😊👍

    Very cool. All on one DSP. So much “power” left in the helix (stomp friendly as well). I could imagine running this on path B wet only and then a high gain as the dry... so many possibilities with a 15 pound unit.

    Sweet. Can’t wait to apply it on my Stomp. I run my H9 and Ventris in the loop of my Stomp and have some fun that way, but since the 8 blocks have come in to the mix I’ve already sold my Iridium as well as my Nemesis lol! They’re being replaced by a Poly Effects Digit. If you haven’t checked out the Digit or Beebo yet you should. They’re beyond words!

    Thanks Jason, thanks for the great reverbs, the spring reverb sounds a lot bigger before the amp. Great job with mixing the modulation withe reverb, gives a bigger sound! Will try this with the helix!

  • @PanosNikolakopoulos
    @PanosNikolakopoulos 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    So basically just what all quality and expensive reverbs do to their signal paths ;) Modulate, add reflections (aka mikro delays and time shifts) etc etc. So yeah once again the helix is an amazing piece of gear you just need to know what sound you are after and work a little harder. Or just go buy the big money gear. I surely love mine.

    I think a lot of the issue with the reverbs in helix is perception. When all the regular reverbs are in a section called 'legacy' it gives the impression they were an afterthought unfortunately

    Thank you Jason I really appreciate your instructional videos. Just wanted to say though that you use a lot of unnecessary out of context none committal words such as: kind of, sort of, possibly, maybe, etc. Which I think kind of sort of subtract from what you are actually trying to show me. Maybe that's just the way the kids sort of talk these days.👍😎 With all kindness.

    • @JasonSadites
      @JasonSadites  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Did you ever think that maybe I speak in that matter for a very particular reason? I choose my words and style of speaking very carefully and for very specific reasons and honestly I am not really looking for advice on how to "improve" any of it. It is quite bizarre that people come around and try to micro-manage things down to the way other people speak in a video. So, no, I do not communicate the way I do because of the way "kids talk these days" but rather for very specific reasons. In the future please spare me the condescending comments as if you are the old, wise one who needs to hand out a lesson. Thanks.

    • @galelongputt
      @galelongputt 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@JasonSadites Wow! I guess I touched a nerve. Perhaps you did not read the last line of my comment were it said "with all kindness". I meant no disrespect and I enjoy your videos. And yes I am the wise old sage because I am not above learning from you and others everyday. Enjoy your day young fellow.😎

    • @JasonSadites
      @JasonSadites  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No nerves touched at all. I just always find it fascinating that folks like you think you need to go around teaching others "lessons" about things when you yourself do not fully understand why someone maybe be doing something or speaking a certain way. It reeks of having some strange need to make yourself feel more intelligent than others to make up for a deficiency of your own. Also, just FYI, simply writing "with all kindness" after an unnecessary comment, designed simply to put yourself on some sort of pedestal and attempt to put your apparent "superiority" on full display, does not make that comment acceptable. If you truly meant no disrespect, simply avoid making comments like this in the future and your problem is solved. I will go on making my videos I see fit in the manner I see fit. Thanks, young fellow.

      Mr Gale, that only means Jason is respectful to anyone with an other opinion. All things music is very subjective. That's the difference between calling a song bad and saying you don't like it. It only shows what a real humble down to earth gentleman Jason is.
