Cartoonking1 sadly still not as overboard as the original HTTYD Netflix series went on Shipping, but yes I can't stand the Kyle X Rogelio X Lani threesome ship Nicole 'in her head' wants.
Okay, speaking as someone who loves father-daughter relationships in stories and centers at least 90% of her writing around those types of bonds... that is not how you do it, She-ra writers. Not at all.
Father-daughter stories are also one of my favorites. The current example I have is Eep and Grug from The Croods (rewatched it quite a bit since the sequel is out right now). There’s an obvious display of love and respect between the two, and his fear of her going out on the world makes so much sense when looking at the tough life they’ve had. Yeah there’s teenage rebellion from Eep’s side, but I don’t think she would have left her dad behind even after voicing she would rather go with Guy. There’s too much love and respect with that family, buried under layers of general annoyance, bickering, over familiarity, and general fear of what’s ahead if something goes wrong, to ever leave someone behind. Grug literally throwing his family to safety while he stays behind always brings a tear to my eye cause that’s what dads will do: protect those they love and make sure they are provided for. Eep thinking she would never see her dad again really brings out just how much she loves him and knows he has and would always do what he could to make sure she’s safe. Hordack and Adora by the contrast: oh, random baby that I gave to an underling to watch over and never bothered with afterwards. Even if she runs away, it doesn’t matter cause why should this one person matter over my goals. Honestly, it’s so pathetic how royally the show runners screwed that up 😑
@@jendoe9436 Speaking of The Croods a lot of people don't like the overprotective father trope but in the context of movie it makes sens. He's not some modern age dad that doesn't like his daughters boyfriend. They live in old times with monsters and natural disasters with their only protection being a cave. Do you remember this silly 2D montage of how all of their neighbors died ? In reality it must have been a lot more brutal and traumatic. And he is a neanderthal that is more understandable. Also I love that they show how men feel. Guy feels bad for not being strong enough and Grug feels bad for not being able to help his family like some random guy (wink wink) they just met.
@@kingagrabowska9366 EXACTLY! They’ve seen friends and neighbors being eaten, stomped, carried off, drop dead, chased, etc by anything that moves. As Ugga says in the 2nd movie, “If no one’s died before breakfast, I consider it a win!” And it’s not like Grug sees Eep as helpless. She’s a vital hunter, possesses immense strength and speed, and he trust her skills enough to “put on the brakes” of a rampaging leopard, mammoth, thing (gosh, why are those chimeras so much more creative looking than anything in Nu-Ra?!) so they can get home. Grug’s a strong man who’s spent his whole life providing and protecting, so it’s hard for him to trust that random Guy will be just as strong and protective. The fact that Grug trusts Guy enough in the end to lead his family to safety shows he sees a fellow protector and provider. If Guy didn’t make it across, there’s no doubt in my mind that the Croods would have faced The End together. Either bickering one last time, a family hug, or run back to that cave terrified but content that they were at least together. Ugh, long rant, but I just feel The Croods doesn’t get enough attention in terms of story, character, or animation. The fact it came out the same year as Frozen and provided so much more visual and story appeal just makes me more annoyed the later gets all this praise while the former seems to fade out.
@@kingagrabowska9366 In the show, they showed how violent things were (albeit in a silly way) and the cave people were constantly being crushed, mauled, eaten, and various other ways death. It also didn't help that at the moment it looked as if they were legit the last of their kind so that also comes into play and looking back on the series makes it a lot darker.
Honestly there's the difference between abuse and love and if Catra Was a good person if she was nice and supportive towards Adora and If she actually went with adora to escape the horde None of this wouldn't have happened and honestly Catra Doesn't deserve to be with anybody in the end
Mermista: so, everyone’s alright with Hordak now?” When the plot holes in your bad writing are glaring enough that even the characters in universe can spot them.
Even though this was a blooper line, Mermista's line here is on par with Kirigiri's line from Danganronpa 3 Kirigiri: Yeah, I don't get it either. Pretty sure I died.
Catra has one of the worst redemption arcs I've ever seen and it's a huge sham that the Nu-Ra fans claim it's the same level as or surpasses Zuko's. It most certainly is not - Catra never dealt with the consequences of her actions: she's only been toxic, manipulative, and a bitch, and she remains that way and everyone yelled kumbayah and took her in with open arms. What's more disturbing is that Catradora is very much based on Noelle's own relationship with her wife who constantly cheated on her before. Hell, Shadow Weaver's redemption made more sense in this, even if it's contrived. I was pretty furious at the blatant Utena rip-off but very unsurprised from these Western creators. Most of the modern fanbase of Utena know jack shit about what it actually stands for and is truly about - not "uwu slaaay lesbians, down with patriarchy and men!1!", but rather fairytales and how their conventions are broken and played around with (particularly with Anthy), and the complexity of relationships, in general. Typical shallow understanding and using blatant referencing and ripping off. May you die in the fire of obscurity and appear in future studies of what does *not* make a show work, Nu-Ra. And awesome job to you girls. Get good amounts of rest.
I still don't believe Catra is reformed, like here's the thing that I've always wonder, if Adora decided not go to into space to save Glimmer and Catra would Catra still help Glimmer? The only reason she did it was because Adora was going to try to save them both but what if Adora never bothered to even try? Would Catra still be willing to change or will she go in deeper because Adora "abandoned" her again?
The She-Ra Fans would say yes. I'm not so sure however. If she had the Chance to manipulate Prime, I don't doubt that she would go right back to her old ways.
@@johannesseyfried7933 Same. Even when that didn't work, Catra still didn't want to be redeemed until she was about to get baptized. Seeing Adora getting hurt by Prime wasn't even enough.
@@Saltedroastedcaramel Yeah someone make a Divergence fanfic where Catra is the TRUE final Boss villain and Adora has no choice but to kill the ex friend who was too far gone, she doesn’t like it but she obviously has no choice but to Slay Catra. She cried about killing Catra but she has new friends to help her support through the ordeal.
“Lessons”? What lessons did Glimmer learned? She’s still the same shortsighted spoiled brat from episode one, just with a bad haircut now. Also Bow giving away his position to Scorpia is a perfect example how immature this show is. They could have had the machine make a sound or something instead of making it Bow’s stupidity. But speaking of stupidity, Scorpia fighting the mind control after one speech after brushing off an entire episode of Perfumea giving her hippie-dippy speech’s despite it being given to her by her “love-interest” shows that the writers have no talent.
Catra saying "just stay for once" really rubbed me the wrong way, and it was very personal too. It reminded me of the days when I was still stuck in my toxic relationship with my ex-boyfriend and how he would blame me for his own unhappiness. I could even clearly remember a time when he said to me "Can you just for once not act like this?" when we were having a fight over him being gone all the time. It hurt for a very long time, and some of that pain is still inside me even years later. Catra is clearly abusing Adora, and we're supposed to just accept it. It's so wrong.
In the “rise of Skywalker” when Rey and Kylo kissed I groaned out loud in disgust and annoyance, this caused the whole theater to chuckle along with me, not a single person shushed me because everyone thought the moment was undeserved and came out of nowhere. Catra and Adora give me a worse feeling because while Rey and Kylo didn’t have much of a deep connection, Catra has be radioactively toxic as a person and shouldn’t be with ANYONE romantically, especially Adora her main victim of abuse and gaslighting.
Scorpia vs Bow makes no sense. Showdowns are about resolving conflict. Scorpia and Bow had no lingering conflict or issues to resolve. Now, Scorpia vs Catra would have made sense.
They made something what should have been a serious and dramatic battle a joke. Ex friends, abuser vs abused ,how much of it is mind control and how much is real resentment and anger towards Catra, what will be of their relationship ? haha Scorpia blasts Catra once and this makes everything okay. They go back to being friends in the end.
@@jeangentry6656 I come up with this idea in couple of seconds. This ,,professional'' writers had who knows how much time and did this. It makes me happy because maybe I can be a writer if they are but it also means a lot of bad shows and books like this will be approved.
Terrible facts people need to be aware of that this show kind of reflects: In order of least to most abuse cases is: Women on man, man on woman, man on man, woman on woman. This goes for physical, mental, and stalking abuse. If you know of someone in an abusive relationship, please intervene. It is better they hate you and live long enough to forgive you later, than be dead and you live with the guilt that you could have done something.
@@erraticdeterminator I even told a fan about it on a video criticizing Lily Orchard's writing tips tumblr post (side note: Lily doesn't like She ra which is something I can agree on but it's ironic since she's just as toxic) and they had the gall to ask how was it relevant. I'm just over here, "well it's the reason why the show is the way that it is" I can't with these stans
Generally speaking, the more marginalised and discriminated against a person is, the more vulnerable they are to abusive relationships, due it being harder to seek help.
The father daughter moment between Adora and Hordak shows how incompetent these writers are. Hordak was hardly used in the series (he's never even fought Adora at all) and yet the writers expects the audience to feel like Adora and him were family. Given the audience of the show they probably do. No offense. But that's not happened here. Even if Hordak was seen as the neglectful father, the show never established that either. Also if Catradora is supposed to be a "couple", why make Adora and Catra practically sisters over and over again?
That phrase, it just triggers me: "Just this once, STAY". I didn't notice it the first time, I was quite happy for their ship... but it's actually terrible! Fans of the series defended that phrase saying she meant "don't rush into combat alone as you always do, Adora", but that's just... wrong... it's not what she's saying at all! And not what was happening, either! Adora wasn't rushing in, she was stuck in Prime's illusion and was gonna give up.
@@dippingshtick3 No no, the *other* Lizard. The one with the Horn and the Wings. It got transformed by Adora, but never showed up again. They could have at least give him a Background Cameo, like the Snail from Adventure Time.
"I might have gone too far in a few places." - Unlikely Noelle Stevenson Thank you for seeing this through to the end. Your thoughts pretty much line up with my own on how flawed this finale and overall series was. It's disappointing when people who I enjoy talking to take on a "Nuh Uh!" attitude when I try to explain my stance on Catradora. I don't think less of them, far from it, but this particular discussion lacks progression. I think that everything Stevenson and crew wanted to achieve was possible, but lacked the nuance to execute it in a satisfactory manner. Oh well, the fanbase with the Catra avatars are happy, so I guess that's something. Actually, forget that. They told me that I should be unloved and die for poking fun at the writing, so screw them.
We don’t have a “final boss” because the show never cared about the conflict, they cared more about shipping a melodrama. Catra can’t be the final boss, despite how she logically should have been after the whole “destroy the universe in a suicidal tantrum” moment clearly showing how little she cared about anything besides her own gratification because the writers want her to have gay magical babies with Adora. Shadowweaver just kind of fades into the background despite being a cause of a few of the problems in the show’s story (and I use that term loosely) despite in the original show was a Mother figure/guardian to her and should have had more of an impact. Hordack, who again in the original show and was her Father figure didn’t even care about her. The only connection he had was to entrapta which seemed to be another attempt to force shipping into the show. Prime only shows up at the end and the writers don’t know if he’s a cult leader or a world concerning warlord or whatever.
@@cartoonking1789 Not to mention the artstyle and animation is shallow and janky as hell too. I mean look at this shot at 18:42. I seriously don't know what went through Dreamworks and Mattel's minds when they hired liberal arts college people from California to make a She-Ra reboot.
#JusticeForAngela #JusticeForKyle One more time kids: This show has been nothing but trying to show that Noelle Stevenson's toxic personal relationships are in fact OK. Except that it showed the opposite.
The whole abuse is bad thing really is hypocritical like I don’t care that they’re taking it seriously in fact taking it seriously is even worse cause of the double standards and how it fails
Don't know why, since this kinda thing would give the man all kinds of heart attacks, but for some reason I thought you said something about H.P Lovecraft. In retrospect this show could be seen as a type of horror a gaze into the darkness of the mind, but with cat shipping.
Could've used Octavia as Adora's mother figure or Catra's. But no. The lack of self awareness is high. Even the novel called them sisters. This is reversed Sailor Uranus and Neptune
@@Asaylum117 it's not even about that, I knew nothing of the original She-ra, I liked how Hordak looked(vain I know), I was looking forward to him maybe being redeemable or redeemed properly but nooo, shipping, shipping everywhere.
@Jacqueline Davis He looks a bit....boring in my opinion. I like the Sedative Dreadlocks, but aside from that? Now the old Horde Prime looked kinda intimidating. The only Thing you ever saw of him was that gigantic cybernetic Arm, everything else was hidden behind Smoke or Storm clouds or something.
Catra : So please just this once stay! Are you kidding me Catra? you've spend the entire show refusing Adora offer and tries to kill her Even when Catra is acting like a Hero she's still selfish , Scarlamagne from Kipo has a way better redemption arc than Catra

UGH!! In the end I agree with one thing and one thing only if there is a reboot of He man that is good May Mattel tell the Director of Reboot He Man (word of advice don't let Netflix She Ra crossover with you guys) and never give Noelle Stevenson a chance to try and co direct what to to with She Ra and He Man since she completely dishonored the original She Ra
Am I the only one who really hates the She-Ra reboot art style? It's so damn ugly and generic. Edit: Also, Catra's an irredeemable bitch. She was only "redeemed" because shippers (And, let's be real, Noelle as well) Wanted to see them together.
I think it needs more shading. The linart is clean and all but they just look unappealing. ESPECIALLY Bow. Not cuz hes black but cuz his torso seems so..off???
Hordak redemption would be like if the Fire Lord got a redemption at the last minute cause Aang found out Hitler was real and the one ordering the Fire Lord.
Eh, more like if Azula got a redemption at the very end. Everything she did was to please Ozai, then he just cast her aside to crown himself Phoenix King. Azula herself said he couldn't treat her like Zuko. Difference is, I feel sincere sympathy and regret for Azula, and NONE for Hordak.
@@Johnlindsey289 I say it’s WORSE than Joker and Harley, at least that ship is acknowledged as toxic in-universe. Catra and Adora are treated as romantic.
13:16 oh and on that, I saw some post awhile ago showing a scene from one of this shows scripts that was cut and it was basically horde prime guilt tripping adora with knowledge of catra and it basically went like "all she ever really wanted was you but you weren't satisfied, no you wanted more" (was an actual cut scene for time) and like no, no no no adora didn't want more she wanted NOT TO BE A PART OF AN EVIL WORLD CONQUERING ARMY! and don't you friggin pull that catra only wanted her because if that bull was true she would have came along when adora asked her, in the first goddamn episode, to leave WITH HER, in fact catra was the one who wasn't satisfied she wanted to become more powerful and destroy kingdoms (and she was literally going to continue that if it wasn't for prime seeing threw her). And guess what these fans ate it up like they literally fell for it hook, line and sinker my god I feel shipping is destroying fandoms because these people don't care if it ruins, derails, unneeded to a story or if it is in actuality completely toxic cause as long as ship they dont care
Well, if it was Horde Prime, then it kinda made sense. He's a manipulative villain, after all. But probably that one line would have worked better with Catra: "You didn't just want Adora, you wanted more"
Do you know what that "I love you" implies? The literal reason Catra did all the horrible things she did from episodes 2 - 49 were all because she was butt hurt over the fact that she didn't woman up and tell the girl she had feelings for that she had those feelings.
16:00 Even the original over-the-top villain Hordak had a better father daughter relationship with his Adora and She-Ra. (She-Ra actually saves him from being erased from existance and went back to save him from the dark dimension.)

I have heard some people call Catradora a friends to lovers/enemies to lovers relationship. Thing is, you need a FRIENDSHIP first and foremost, and Catra and Adora never had that. It's a false, toxic, Mad Love that really will KILL Adora one day.
@@jeangentry6656 I guess they had some nice moments in the very first Episode, but that's it as far as I can remember. Not sure if those Flashbacks in the Crystal Castle count.
That quote from Noel says so much about where everyone's priorities were when they made this show. They didn't care about telling a good story, they only cared about marrying off their dolls and bragging about how progressive they were because they had gay characters (ignoring how little development Netasha and Spinnerella, the first gay couple on the show, got). And it worked because they found their audience. But I wonder how well this show will age. The original She Ra has fans because it was a fun show. Sure, it had its problems due to low budget, but things like the animation and dialogue have added a new layer of enjoyment over the years. At the end of the day, the original She Ra was a fun, timeless show about adventure, friendship, and triumph against impossible odds. But this new show is too rooted into the political landscape of the 2010's, being that nearly all of the villains get redemption arcs that they don't deserve (Hello Steven Universe, MLP Friendship is Magic), and more of a focus on putting their LGBTQ characters on a pedestal than telling good stories. I wonder, a decade from now, if anyone will remember this show at all.
Damn, the finale's even worse than I imagined xD Catra getting her cake and eating it whole despite never changing anything in her behavior or personality, just because she was a "poor misunderstood child", which in hindsight makes one to realize why the snowflakes defend the catradora ship so ferociously, it's because Catra is their ultimate mary sue character, an author pet that falls upwards. Poor Angela really got the sharp end of the stick here, but I guess that's because the writers hated her from the start, pining her as the stereotypical "know-it-all christian mom" Horde Prime being what Hordak should have been in the first place, but ended being used here only so Hordak can have a nonsensical happy ending with Entrapta. We can expect the showrunners to do to Hordak what Steven Universe's crew did with the Diamonds, claiming that they never did anything wrong and it was all a big misunderstanding. The series promised a bunch of things but wasn't more than a badly animated and badly written boring highschool drama, quite dissapointing but we see how dumbing down the audience lets networks and execs to get away with mediocre products like this to grab some quick cash and then kick the IP away.
To be fair to Steven Universe they never said the Diamonds didn't do anything wrong and that it was a huge misunderstanding. The problem was more that they rushed through their realization that they were wrong. The rest of your points are spot on.

@@Saltedroastedcaramel i totally agree jasmine was just the first and most notable example that came to mind specially with the live action trying to "fix" her
13:13 I hate this line. This show, for all its problems, has built up a consistent pattern in Catra and Adora's relationship. Whenever Adora and Catra are in a bad spot together, Adora tries to bring them out, while Catra entrenches herself inside it and insists she's being abandoned. The narrative is clearly trying to tell us that Catra is getting better, so the line that should go here practically writes itself. Just turn the "Stay with me," into an "I'm staying with you," and you demonstrate that Catra has learned from her experiences, recognized her flaw, and is making meaningful progress towards fixing it. Y'know, the fundamentals of character development. Instead, we have to wonder what the heck this line means to Catra. Should Adora have stayed with her in the Horde, to be abused by Shadow Weaver and most likely destroyed by Horde Prime eventually? Should she have stayed in the collapsing dimension to die while the world fell apart around them? Should she have run away when the entire universe was going to be destroyed, thus sealing their deaths? The show wants us to feel like Catra has changed, but actively doubled down on arguably her biggest flaw at the culmination of her redemption arc. Honestly, Shadow Weaver probably has the best redemptive moment in the show. The way I see it, there's two kinds of narrative redemption: Heroic and Villainous. Heroic redemption is attained by displaying heroic virtues, seeking forgiveness and atonement, and dedication to noble goals. Villainous redemption is attained by aligning personal goals with noble ones, making peace with enemies and victims, and permanently removing oneself from them, usually by dying. OG Adora and Seahawk are examples of the former, while Darth Vader is an example of the latter. And wouldn't you know it: Avatar has both. There's a reason Zuko lives and Jet dies: one of them possessed the qualities of a hero from his introduction despite fighting on the wrong side, while the other was a charming villain who happened to have the same enemy as the heroes. This show wants everyone to have a heroic redemption, but it neglects to give most of its antagonists any heroic virtues, besides the Big Sad, or have them atone for their many, many crimes. Shadow Weaver takes a chance to sacrifice herself for the sake of the world and to help those she's wronged. No one acts like she's suddenly a tragic hero, but there's a sense of resolution for some of her misdeeds. It's actually not a badly executed moment, even if it doesn't make a lot of sense in the larger story.
Oh boy, where do I begin, with listing my issues with this series? * I guess I'll start with my biggest one being the world building, it's flat af; in a series based around war, world building is essential because you want the setting to feel fleshed-out so the audience can feel the weight of whatever happens; but here, we hardly know anything about kingdoms' histories, culture, the citizens, or even the names (in Spinnerella & Netossa's case). In the end they just felt like locations A-Z. * A lot of the characters were underutilized and underdeveloped Castaspella being the prime example * They cared more about the shipping than the actual story. * I hated the Kyle abuse; not only is it unfunny, it also shows there hypocrisy, considering the way they treated Kyle goes against the message they wanted to promote about abuse * They relied way too much on Twitter to fill in the blank instead of actually putting the details into the show itself, which is unfortunate because not everyone that the watched the show followed them on Twitter. For example, when they were shipping Hordak and Entrapta, it made me (a casual viewer) uncomfortable because they never stated her age in the show and she is designed to look like a teenager. * Spinnerella & Netossa were handled terribly, they tried to give them a subplot in the second half of the final season, but at that point it was too little too late and it wasn't enough for me to care about them actual characters. Overall the felt like they were only their to make the showrunners look progressive. * It didn't feel like characters were actually learning, and they constantly acted like a bunch of buffoons. * Glimmer was already a bad character in season 1-3, but in season 4 she was absolutely aggravating. After her mom got trapped, that should've been the point where she be more like "My mom is gone and I can't afford to act like a selfish and spoiled brat anymore, I need to step up and be a better leader.", instead, she started acting more brash, more disrespectful, and kept making irrational plans. * Other than Queen Angela and King Micah, we never went into detail regarding the families of the princesses, and the whole time I was thinking "So what happened to the other kings and queens, are all of the princesses orphans?". * The redemption with Hordak, ShadowWeaver and Catra felt unearned. So that's all of the issues I can think of right now, let me know what you think.
I would add that the overall story is a lot like the Star Wars sequel movies: mystery boxes, clearly no plan based on the constant retcons, and contradicting plot hole after plot hole.
It honestly made me upset that Catra tells Adora to stay, even though adora left for her own good. The horde was evil, and adora tells catra this, yet its catra choice to not leave, but she gets the right to be upset about adora leaving? In my opinion, one thing they could've done to redeem catra is if she said: " Adora, please come back, I need you. Please, I will come with you, we can go anywhere, I will be there for you, just wake up." Instead of telling adora to stay as if adora was always in the wrong. It just didn't sit with me well.
I find it really frustrating how everything has to be romanticized nowadays. Frosta was the only characters who dud not get shiped with anyone and its made worse with characters who should not be shipped like Kyle and his 2 bullies! Like damn Noelle with all due respect some things really should shipped! But seriously cant characters just be platonic friends!
I really hoped to see Kyle, Lonnie and Rogelio join the rebellion after they got a bit of development (or at the very least just get more presence this season), so seeing they only got a cameo at the very last episode was disappointing. Also, aside from Noel just confirming it on Twitter, it seems like the only clues we have for Kyle and Rogelio's relationship is them hugging in a flashback from when they were young and maybe the fact that Rogelio was the only one in this show (including the creators) who didn't treat Kyle like absolute shit
@@luma4902 Really? Didn't notice that. I remember Scorpia mentioning that Kyle had a secret crush on Rogelio, so it makes sense. In which episode does it appear?
Netflix She ra is nothing but an expensive fanfiction with too much Bad writing not enough good writing. And is the message really, a toxic relationship will work out if you try hard enough? If so then the showrunners truly Dishonored the original She Ra and should never have given Noelle Stevenson the rights to She Ra, I'd wish someone who watches the original She Ra was given that opportunity to truly honor She Ra. If anyone is being manipulated in a toxic relationship if you feel sick and tired of being treated like trash despite your best efforts to please your toxic partner or friend don't be afraid to just walk away from the toxic environment and never look back, focus on yourself and yourself alone, don't give your abuser a second of your time, and you don't have to forgive them when so much time has passed (if you do you are a saint and an inspiration for all of us)
@@ChroniclerV Damn you are right, I remember someone said that they heard from a video of sorts of Noelle Stevenson stating she never watch She Ra Eh I might as well say Noelle Stevenson is as bad as the ones who made a terrible reboot of thunder cats roar but with slightly better animation along with the rest I said

So Catra joins a fascist organization, abused her friend she considered like a sister both physically and emotionally, treated her comrades and superiors horribly, committed genocide multiple times among other atrocities. She does hardly anything to earn her redemption, yet she ends up Adora. I think this show and it’s writers have gotten so woke, they wrapped right around to being homophobic.

I still have no idea how this gets so much praise. Do you really just need to put some gay people in the show and no matter the quality you will get praised? At least this dumspterfire is over.
It's gonna have a backlash effect. The fandom for this show, Steven Universe, and Star has completely come apart. The gay baiting is only going to work for so much longer.
Yeah, that’s all it takes apparently now these days. It’s actually irritating and no wonder no one can write. And the last good writers are all old. 😅😭
You know this reboot is bad, and most of the shilling mainstream media focused more on the sexuality of the characters and shipping, in which that they labeled and criticized original fans. Remove all the sexuality, shipping, and their love for the character redesigns, they ignored the story, which IDC, what they say, is laughably bad and worse IMO, than the 80's one, in which things are way easier, cheap, now than then and the art, animation was somehow it was worst. My bad if comment makes no sense, I may fix later.
Omg! Thank you! I really thought the catra and Adora ship was bad. Like I want someone to do a super cut of all the times Adora cried out in pain because catra was digging her claws into her not to mention glimmers mom died directly because of catra actions.
As someone who used to like this show, I just wanna say, Catradora retroactively ruined the entire show for me. When I originally watched this show, I assumed that we were supposed to see Catra as an abuser and gaslighter, that she was eventually going to be called out for it, and that Adora would learn to stop letting herself be manipulated. But instead it validates Catra, and her gaslighting. And now, whenever I go back to watch previous episodes, all I can think is "This is what the show thinks is romantic. The show actually expects me to see ADORA as the one in the wrong here!". At least with the Diamond's redemption, the show still recognised that they were in fact in the wrong. It didn't paint them as these totally innocent loved ones who were "abandoned" for "no reason".
The people who wrote those show don#t see the villians as evil nor their acts. Which is why we don#t have proper heroes in western media. All current MArvel heroes behave like villians. The legendary heroes are written as weak, worthless and constantly belittle by "women" or the "correct kind of poc".
I'm sorry, but the only logical Future for those two I can reasonably see is Catra becoming so paranoid and possessive that she kills Adora in a fit of rage and then shows her remains to all their friends as a warning, before systematically hunting them down. There's no happy outcome for that relationship
I see that but the other way around with Adora realizing the grave mistake she made in letting her entire life be dictated, controlled and brutalized by Catra and ends up killing Catra in the end after dealing with her for an unnecessary amount of years.
@@youknowyoufuckedupright3058 Or the people realize their leaders and protectors are grossly incompetent and start a revolution that ends with all the main characters tortured to death.
People that compare Catra to Zuko probably never watched the show. They just heard fans talk about it. Catra had a ,,redemption arc'' just like this beloved character from a beloved show. Let's compare them to each other to make people think that ,,our'' show is just as good.
@@Retrogirl-sc5ni It's as if Katara and everybody else started trusting Zuko. We as the audience saw his development but the gang didn't. It makes it more impactful and satisfying. We know that he wants to be good but we also know and understand why they wouldn't trust him. Pointing out that you did a poor job at writing a character and a story is not funny. The writers of the show forget that the characters in the show don't watch their own show and don't know everything that happened. Mermista should have been scared and angry at Hordak because for all she knows he still the guy who attacked her people.
You know what this last review made me finally realize??? We have straight up spent 5 season watching a hardcore Yandere get her way and in the end a Happy Ending! 🤣 She-Ra and the Princesses of Power is totally a story of a Yandere Cat Girl clawing her way to her happy ending! 🤣 Wow, why am I now just seeing this!!!?
"It's finally over" an ill-fated title to the last episode of this show that's only remembered threw the toxicity of the remnants of the fandom. The legacy of this show will not be looked at favorably in the years. A somewhat brief look at this show that may have only last barely a year and a half. *The bloated media praise:* This show was probably the most talked about for a cartoon with little said about the show itself. Focusing more on the "evil fans" that just hated shera was sexualized enough, spanding months of hit-pieces. However; With all the mean--spirited attacks on fans of the original, Karma caught up to one one publication outlet that made several articles for the show and was scuttled. *The show itself:* A terrible show throughout being most of it was just McGuffins, plot armor and what I will refer to as "plot stupidity" by the villains many times to save the day and not what the characters had learned or actually became stronger through experience. Any time there was any stakes, they fell flat due to the characters acting so nonchalantly during most of it. Like it was all a game, so there was nothing to invest anyone other then the Fans who watched it for a completely different reason. The "villain redeemed by hero to fall in love with" was even too much for some fans. At this point, they've only themselves to blame for the disappointment. This was not She-Ra, this was the showrunner's expensive fan fiction. *The merchandise:* Ironically, many fans saying this show can be so much more by not being a "glorified toy commercial" (and ended up being so very little) began demanding products from Mattel for this show, which they didn't even bother buying until they'd gone on clearance. Mattel knew this show wasn't marketable, so no point in creating new molds for a show that wouldn't be around long- And with all their She-Ra merch hailing the classic line, it's very obvious telling Mattel has washed it's hands of this. *The production:* There's a reason this show could barley last a about 2 years. Lazy creators, lazy writing, and cared less about the source material even going as far as mocking the originals VA's of character's they're not portraying- Many of whom have passed away. Such much resentment for the original, they mention nothing the passing of Larry DiTillio during a convention until they could use him to promote the show. They can't be bothered to give insight into the lore of this show, but will constantly appease the shipping aspect of the fandom for no reason other then trying to have it remain relevant having wrapped up well before this season even aired. And the worst part, *the Fans:* Most of the fans quit caring about this show they supposedly loved so much after this season, since they got what they wanted and moved on to a new show to ship characters in. Leaving a very small few to beg for a movie that'll never happen and attack anyone critical of it. When saying "it's finally over" until a reboot or even She-Ra showing up in Kevin Smith's He-Man based off the classic series. There will be articles attacking it for "missing the mark" of what shera did, which of course is just them made they're fanfic character is not being hailed as the definitive of the character. Overall this show was made not because they wanted to make a good show, but to boost the ego of the showrunner in preparations for her original show (which was co-written by two others and she just jumped on to have a self-insert) and will be forgotten as fast as many other bad reboots of other 80's properties with no heart and no soul.
Thank you, thank you, thank you! Stupidity for the plot is a thing and I hate it and when people ignore it. And everything else you said is so on the mark that you’re breaking the target board. If a show itself makes you frustrated on every turn, then it’s not a good show. It bad. And it’ll continue to be bad when you add up everything else you said.
Well said. In the end this show was a failure to itself and to the property it was supposed to be a remake of. Good thing the Masters of the Universe is still strong and neither He-Man or The original She-Ra will suffer because of this failure.
You want to hear a funny joke Reboot shera fans thinking they will stand by this reboot for years and totally not abandon this show for next "Big gay animated couple" show. P.s This ain't getting a movie
@@JoseHernandez-xv2bt Lumity is already 100x better and healthier than Catradora. Amity basically stops being a bully in episode 7, and she and Luz start a healthy platonic friendship before her crush even becomes a thing. She also apologizes to all the people she's wronged, and never gets jealous that Luz has other friends. If Amity was Catra, she'd have never apologized to Willow, never forgiven Luz for their initial rivalry, and always been mad at Luz for spending time with Gus and Willow.
Shame how much controversy & madness this single show has created, even after it is over. Netflix's She-Ra is a good example of how NOT to do a reboot of a classic animated show.

Basically the ending and the whole season 5 was just litreally the writer's peak of wanting to add ships more. Wasted potential to do world building, Catra could have been redempted way better but nope, ships and gay representation, despite it had been show MANY times how abusive Catra is. Also how it remind me back to Noelle's memoir where Molly was litreally being manipulative towards her (aka forcing her to stay with her after she ditched Noelle with a guy one day) is just... God. I think the most interesting part of the show is the fandom itself. Someone with actual experience in clinical psychology should take a look. Bad storytelling aside, I would not consider it impossible that the unhealthy relationsships glorified in this cartoon result in equally mentally unhealthy people gravitating towards the show, giving us the often quoted most toxic fandom of today. A product like SPOP in the mainstream, literally the opposite of every old time PSA, would have been impossible even ten years ago. This might be a novel situation that allows the study of something usually found in an underground product/fandom on a broader basis. The rare disturbed individuals are connected through the internet, that is nothing new. But this time, they get a certain validation since it is no dark corner on tumblr, but they are supported by an official licensed network production. There is PhD potential in there, you only have to wait until political correctness ebbs off so you are allowed to expose the fans as the nutjobs they are.

This bothers me a lot. Just because people save each other doesn't mean they love each other. That can be the case to make saving more important like when spider-man saved aunt May or MJ but he also saved random people and his opponents because it's a right think to do. Cad Bane saved Obi-Wan when he was undercover because he saved him many times and ,,owe him one''.
@@kingagrabowska9366 yeah but they needed more justification for their ship. “Look! See how they save each other?! They LOVE each other! They’re gonna have gay babies together! Eeeeeeee~”
@@cartoonking1789 The writers are probably firm believers in sexual meaning of doing good things for each other. Catra couldn't save Adora because everybody without her is screwed. Perfuma and Scorpia couldn't form a frendship ,they lovers now. Sea Hawk and Bow couldn't have a bromance or do manly thing together because for a long time they were the only good male characters in the show full of woman. Writers just had to made it the most flamboyant and ambiguously gay for shippers. Shadow Weaver and Hord Prime couldn't be intimidating villains without touching everyone in a creepy/flirtatious way. Geez, and Noelle claimed she had this all planned out by the time season 1 dropped? Yeah, I'm so frelling glad I never watched this show. Yeah i really hated the ending. Abuse overlooked, no final boss fight, you redemed the series "primary villain" (even though catra totally replaced him pretty early). also, even though they tout their woke representation, BO USED TO BE GAY. they made him straight for shipping with glimmer. wtf?
I heard that the writers wanted Hordak to do cleaning on Beast Island, as a redemption. Now, that would be really perfect if: -Both him and Catra went there alone. No getting out of there. -Were sent in without any protective gear -Wore a remote explosive collar that blows up whenever they turn their back or run away.

We finally made it to the end. And the argument I've made throughout the journey still strongly stands and I'm so glad you've said it; this show supports abusive relationships. It doesn't matter if that was the intention or not, the relationship between Adora and Catra was supposed to be one of the biggest accomplishments of the series but it doesn't only come off as extremely unsatisfactory on growth in writing standards, but the underlying gaslighting/blame shifting/mental / PHYSICAL abuse is absolutely disgusting to me. For me the ending just feels like the "honeymoon" phase of the cycle of abuse (look it up if youre curious) Sure its all smiles and joy but what'll happen after this all settles? Catra has not shown growth or that she's changed much at all. HELL shes even saying "For once stay." Like how is that suppose to be so emotionally moving and sweet? That's literally shift blaming, shes just trying to make Adora feel like shes always in the wrong. ALWAYS. No matter what she does, its always her fault, not Catra's. To think people think this is a cute wholesome lesbian ship just sickens me to no end. They only support it because it's a lesbian ship and aw man their designs are cute. I guarantee you if this was a straight couple, everyone would see EXACTLY what I see. It's just made worse this is intended for children, yeah kids if your partner blames you, hits you, makes you break down, but SAYS they love you, then its all ok! I just hope someday these people that defend Catdora will finally see the ship for what it really is. Trust me, it won't age well 20 years from now. Well.. im glad we are finally done with this trainwreck of a show and i can finally just rest in peace Thanks for reviewing this show in its entirety M&J it was... interesting going along this journey
I think it is since people don#t take abusive women seriously. So one woman abusing another woman doesn't have the same impact than a man abusing a woman. The same somehow with two male homosexuals as far as I could observe but it seems "those" people prefer underdeveloped lesbians. A man who gets abused is always seen as somehow who "deserved" it.

About the Shadow Weaver sacrifice, I forgot if this is true or not but I think Noelle said even though SW sacrificed herself she isn't redeemed? But I think she is confusing forgiveness with redemption.
Apparently this was Weavers final big Attempt to manipulate Catra and Adora. And it's not like she had anything to look forward to after the War except Prison. Then again....if Hordaks only Punishment is Community Service and cleaning up Beast Island, maybe Weaver blew herself up for no reason.
For me she is not redeemed and this was her final act of manipulation adora was not going to the heart with her because catra was fighting and everyone including her would die anyway (and she would also die if she went to earth as she actually wanted)

While it’s shown he feels bad that he can’t make things right he always knows he still has to keep trying to be a better person than he was before and not do those things ever again. Despite the bad things he does we the audience want him to get to the better place because he’s trying, something he messes up big time but he is trying. Catra is not bojack, she does things she knows are bad gleefully and never owns up for any of her actions, she shifts the blame or ignores it and the world and the characters never address it, Hell they reward her for it.
As Ugga says in the 2nd movie, “If no one’s died before breakfast, I consider it a win!”
And it’s not like Grug sees Eep as helpless.

The only reason she did it was because Adora was going to try to save them both but what if Adora never bothered to even try? Would Catra still be willing to change or will she go in deeper because Adora "abandoned" her again?

Terrible facts people need to be aware of that this show kind of reflects:
In order of least to most abuse cases is:
Women on man, man on woman, man on man, woman on woman. This goes for physical, mental, and stalking abuse.
If you know of someone in an abusive relationship, please intervene. It is better they hate you and live long enough to forgive you later, than be dead and you live with the guilt that you could have done something.
Someone needs to intervene with Noelle's marriage

Generally speaking, the more marginalised and discriminated against a person is, the more vulnerable they are to abusive relationships, due it being harder to seek help.
The father daughter moment between Adora and Hordak shows how incompetent these writers are. Hordak was hardly used in the series (he's never even fought Adora at all) and yet the writers expects the audience to feel like Adora and him were family. Given the audience of the show they probably do. No offense. But that's not happened here. Even if Hordak was seen as the neglectful father, the show never established that either.

Poor Angela really got the sharp end of the stick here, but I guess that's because the writers hated her from the start, pining her as the stereotypical "know-it-all christian mom"
Horde Prime being what Hordak should have been in the first place, but ended being used here only so Hordak can have a nonsensical happy ending with Entrapta.
We can expect the showrunners to do to Hordak what Steven Universe's crew did with the Diamonds, claiming that they never did anything wrong and it was all a big misunderstanding.

Well said.
* A lot of the characters were underutilized and underdeveloped Castaspella being the prime example
* They cared more about the shipping than the actual story.
* I hated the Kyle abuse; not only is it unfunny, it also shows there hypocrisy, considering the way they treated Kyle goes against the message they wanted to promote about abuse
* They relied way too much on Twitter to fill in the blank instead of actually putting the details into the show itself, which is unfortunate because not everyone that the watched the show followed them on Twitter.
Pretty fair points you made. Good job.
I would also add poor pacing between comedy and lore
I would add that the overall story is a lot like the Star Wars sequel movies: mystery boxes, clearly no plan based on the constant retcons, and contradicting plot hole after plot hole.

The horde was evil, and adora tells catra this, yet its catra choice to not leave, but she gets the right to be upset about adora leaving? I really hoped to see Kyle, Lonnie and Rogelio join the rebellion after they got a bit of development (or at the very least just get more presence this season), so seeing they only got a cameo at the very last episode was disappointing.
Also, aside from Noel just confirming it on Twitter, it seems like the only clues we have for Kyle and Rogelio's relationship is them hugging in a flashback from when they were young and maybe the fact that Rogelio was the only one in this show (including the creators) who didn't treat Kyle like absolute shit
Rogelio was also in a poster with hearts draw by kyle

Sadly, yes.
Huh great, might add a background gay character in my show and let the fame come
It is just because of gay and representation.

There's no happy outcome for that relationship

I can’t wait for the day when newer fans of the MotU series make fun at this failed fanfiction.

A product like SPOP in the mainstream, literally the opposite of every old time PSA, would have been impossible even ten years ago.

"That is a plus I suppose....still." The figure shows himself to have a red exoskeleton, a pair of extra small arms hanging from his sides, and two heads. One with a set of sharp teeth, and the other with a bug like face.
"We so much work to do."
Two more figures come into the room, one in a large metal suit with a harpoon pincer for a head. The other was a robot with two sets of parts.
Mosquitor:"Remember our deal Modulok, I get half of those blood samples for myself."
Multibot:"Are you ready master?"
Modulok:"We are, after all, the universe is mine now."
This. Sounds. AWESOME!!!

Spin off series
Zed and the Galactic guardians.
Will even have the daughter of Bravestar and other characters like Zodac, the mutants from New Adventures, and Horde Prime's home planet.
I wanted to make a Skeletor joke but I keep wincing at the idea of these people touching He-man proper.
@@fandude666 I seriously thought they were going to make "Wrong-Hordak" Prince Zed. But, nope! This series was filled with missed opportunities.
Speaking of.... NOT BLENDING BRAVESTARR INTO THE MOTU/POP UNIVERSE!!!! 😍🤩😍🤩
Space Mutants vs Bravestarr vs Tex-Hex

Also Modulok would be voiced by Clancy Brown and his other head voiced by Robert Englund. The voices of Lex Luthor and Scarecrow in the body of a morphing ant scientist, how awesome would that be.
How is Bow suddenly intelligent enough to finish Entrapta's work?

In the words of Thorias Unlimited, “F**k it, it’s in the script,”

Because the writers needed story to happen.
I mean isn't he a fan of entrapta's work so he could seen how she does her technology
You know what guys, forget about this crap. Hilda season 2 is coming out soon, so just wait and support that instead of this garbage.
This show sounds like it had many good elements.
The main characters aren't perfect and it bites them in the butt, characters who were bad try to do good, and the story shifts to different characters.
It wasn't done right though, and I was bored of the show. But I appreciate this channel for reviewing it, I enjoyed it as a summary XD
Yeah, that's the Thing: On Paper, the Story actually sounds really good.
If it had Writers who knew what they were doing, the She-Ra Reboot could have been amazing.
This's the She-ra that ppl are claiming is better than the original? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
15:29 that moment is a rip off the scene in Avatar where Aang take Ozai bending away but without the awesome and cool fight scenes
Wait, so that was just another attempt at manipulation?
@@angelo8304 Apparently.
@@angelo8304 i don't see it like that. It doesn't make sense to me, but I guess I could see it from the perspective that maybe because if her sacrifice she'll have forever left herself as a better figure in their minds?
2:25 You should’ve abandoned any hope for this show a long time ago.
I would say, Catra is basically Ebony Dark'ness Dementia Raven Way, if Ebony was a lesbian catgirl, but that would be an insult to Ebony and I hate Ebony as a character.
She's done it. She's Out-Edged the Edge-est Edge Queen
@@andrewdiaz3529 That was one of the Best replies, I've ever gotten.
Poor Hordak. One of the most misunderstood and mishandled villains in history of cartoons.
"Poor Hordak"?
Why do you say that? This is a genuine question I would like to talk about.
He was a warmongering and pathetic jerk. He also did absolutely nothing this entire season (and along with the rest of the series tbh. Just got pussy whipped by Catra).
@@djdragondrawer9339 That's exactly why he is poor. There was a lot of potential to him, but it all went unrealized. He got unnecessarily sacrificed to Catra in s4 and got shelved in s5. The spot in the story that should have been his, was taken over by a brand new stand in character for comedic effect.
Its over! Its finally over! (Btw the Miraculous Ladybug and Cat Noir encourage innapropriate, toxic, stalker like thoughts and attachments and its a kids show with a 15 yr old girl obsessed with a ditz)
Yep
Wow really
@@Albino_Basilisk The leading female basically stalks the leading male not knowing his true identity (for a obvious b plot). But the messed up part? Ladybugs friends actually encourage her innapropriate behavior.
First season it was kinda cute, later on it became her whole arc and character so much that many stupid decisions were made. She was no longer acting like the shy Hinata when she watched Naruto, but full on stalker who had his schedule at her disposal.
Ugh, I never want those two to get together because it’s obvious she’s just a creepy, crush obsessed fanatic.
Lol i wouldn't say they encourage. I find it funny sometimes but sometimes it can be a bit cringe
So...Where the movie at?
I'm just kidding I hope this show will never have any kind of comeback and fades into oblivion, here is hoping for another reboot in the future at least until then mattel can keep making original She-Ra stuff.
You the show Bojack Horseman? They have Bojack do terrible things and they just don’t go away. There is concurrences for his actions, even as he grows as a person and tries to do good his past actions still come back to haunt him and close relationships he had are changed forever, some even end forever and he can’t change them back no matter how much he tries or how much he has changed for the better.
That’s why I despise her and I despise the show for glorifying this dangerous relationship and person.
IKR? At least he was trying, got called out and got punished for his actions. I sympathize with him MORE than I did with Catra. 🙄
@@Retrogirl-sc5ni and it’s because the show and characters don’t bend over backwards to try and justify his actions. Yeah he had a shitty childhood, yeah he was pressured into do doing bad stuff by shitty people but he still did bad things and you can’t excuse it by saying he had a hard life. Most people in the show did but still didn’t do the things he did. Bojack realizes this and acknowledges that the people who have distanced themselves from him or even cut him out of their Lives are justified even if he is upset that he can’t have the same relationship they did before.
