    Bought one of these and 4 extra ferro rod reloads using your discount code. Feels a lot better knowing I'll have those put back and saved for if and when I need them. Thank you.

    Many people don't realize that the "striker" in a BIC lighter IS IN FACT a ferrocerium rod -- same thing as a "fire rod." Indeed, supplied with the proper tinder, you can start a fire with an EMPTY bic lighter in exactly the same way that you would with a fire-starter rod.

      Yep, Exotac paying for this review, no doubt. I do have an exotac glow in the dark bic lighter holder though. That's basically a tinder ball holder.

    I have the original one and carry that in my pocket along with a little space pen, mini leatherman, that little Olight Mini Baton 2 (I think that's the name), and knife that's clipped to my pocket. It definitely doesn't have the performance of a big, normal sized one but at least I would have some capability. I wouldn't carry something if it was bigger than the one I have, but for like an emergency bag this one would be decent (although I'd opt for a much cheaper fire steel).

    Hey Sootch, do you think down the road you could do a video or at least give your thoughts about "apartment/condo" prepping for those of us who live in situations where space is very limited and so we're dependent on a lot of battery power stuff?

    • @mjhill72
      @mjhill72 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Check out TH-cam channels City Prepper and Prepper Princess. You can do a ton in the city / apartment if you're committed. You can fit enough food storage under a single bed to feed 1 person for a year. If you have sunny windows, grow veggies in flower pots. Grow herbs in a cloth shoe rack. Get a Nesco dehydrator. Heck, I have a bee hive operating on my balcony.

      @DamionJR4923 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@beansandbandaids8667 If labor cost 8 times as much it is a simple fact it will cost 8 times more. I used to say that about pocket knives. I bought a nice $150 knife and now I don’t really care for $20 kershaw blades. Also you should compare the baylite to the Exotac refills. The Exotac has a cnc machined anodized handle. Bayolite is a rod.

    I have used ferro rods for years...$60 for the large and $30 for the regular size is an absolute rip off. I have used any and every rod from Walmart, eBay, Amazon, etc. They all work the same and work great for under $10. Knowing that they overcharge this much tells me to never even consider buying anything from this company...

    • @teddydavid2816
      @teddydavid2816 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for this comment I'm new to prepping and I've never used one of these ferro rods but from looking at vids and how they work and some other products that basically look the same for a fraction of the cost on ebay and amazon had me wondering.. Found some good ones with a compass and storage and extra rod etc for like 9 bucks and they look like very similar quality as I have a good eye for quality :) ... I'll give some of these a try to start out with thanks bro..

    Complete waste of money. I've never had a problem with any ferro rod. Period. This is ridiculously priced. Get a cheapo, test it out; it'll work great. Mors Kochanski always said, & I agree, you wont need all that surface once you've gotten used to using a ferro rod. This is influencer bait. Before buying this ask yourself if you have several months of food storage INCLUDING water. That's where most preppers fail.
