I love it when the instructor works with a bigger sparring partner. That really shows that the technique works. Plus, he put uke down gently like a baby. Fantastic technique and control.

It’s actually easier to throw bigger people cause you have more space to get in and the technique doesn’t have to be as crisp.

On the contrary I've literally never seen this technique applied in this way during competition or an MMA fight. Blocking their leg is supposed to come first (right after off-balancing them) and mechanically starts everything that makes the throw possible. If you lifted them off the ground already you may as well just do a regular hip throw. Also, this particular technique in no-gi is higher percentage with an overhook than an underhook. It's weird almost every instance of a UFC highlight reel will be with an overhook but no one teaches it with an overhook.

That’s O-Goshi with a lifted leg not harai goshi. The execution of harai doesn’t lift the hips then the leg it’s a sweeping throw with the leg not a lift. It was developed becaus o goshi was prevented due to lack of hip lift or opponent moving off. 👍🏻

There are some good elements here. Lots of people pointing out this isn't really Harai. Especially since the leg isn't reaping. The really important element missing is the kuzushi. The arms need to be bringing him slightly forward right. Without it, the throw becomes very difficult with a resistant person.

I love how whenever people demonstrate throws they show it on an opponent who is in good balance and never discuss the process of off balancing in order to open the window of opportunity for the throw.
The setup is arguably more important than the technique itself. You have to win the hand fight to get a dominant angle or use your superior grips to off balance.
No one teaches these concepts as well as Danaher
