    A little late to the party on this one, but thought I'd might as well give you my thoughts since I played it casually over the week. Did you guys pick it up too? Let us know your thoughts. Comments and thumbs up help us massively! If you want to pick it up and need some eShop credit, consider supporting us by buying through these links:

      Initially I thought the links above were a good idea; help support a channel that I enjoy at no extra cost to me (per information provided in the video). Clicking the link I found that the eShop card that had a £15 value would cost me £19.76. It seems to me that in order to support you and/or Play-Asia it will cost me £4.76 more than it would if I bought credit via the eShop on my Switch. Am I missing something here?

    • @SwitchWatch
      @SwitchWatch  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @USAlienGames Hi! Yeah, so, from our point of view we wouldn't recommend buying these eShop credits for your own currency. This is more useful if you want to buy foreign eShop credit which isn't so easy. And, in all honesty, I didn't realise the big price hike for £, seems we're getting slightly shafted on that one!
      But it does support the team. We would certainly champion the idea of you guys buying something that's at a good price for you first and foremost, but for those that don't mind spending money to pass on to us, then we appreciate it massively.
      This Play Asia stuff, as much as we don't enjoy shilling things (even though we're always brutally honest), it's made a big impact for us since we've started. The eShop credit less so than other things, but every little helps.

Thanks for the detailed response; buying currencies for foreign stores... now I get it. ;) I totally respect and understand the need for affiliate links, partnerships with businesses like Play-Asia etc. to help fund your work. I played this back on the 360 port I loved the gameplay even then but my god how awful it was on a technical level. Slow pop-in environments and the ridiculous animation stalling made it hard to play through. had no idea the remaster dropped though

    • @NeroVingian40
      @NeroVingian40 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The game really does not teach you enough about it’s systems. In order to invest time to learning it, a guide is a must. Just playing the game the way it is, you’ll probably getting far just mashing buttons together, while still wondering why certain things are happening (or not happening). The UI also just doesn’t show you enough of what is going on wrong when you did something wrong.
      So, yeah, good gameplay, but less than stellar effort to sell it to the players.

    You cannot actually control your army and instead you need to coordinate with system ai, which is one of the charms in this game. Moreover, although you cannot assign equipment to units, unique unit leader will request specific weapon from you, especially some remnant weapons. Also unit class changing is pretty in depth design. This game has always been one of my favorite jpgs. Regardless of its graphics, performance etc, I would say its gameplay is a 10/10. You can easily dump shit load of hours in it.

    • @IluvGackto
      @IluvGackto 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You give an order but you can actually see what they will do exactly - he didn't get/show this? When you choose orders you can switch the health bars to the actions they will do and it's not that hard/bad I swear! In the beginning I thought I would never understand the war mechanics but the game beats the stuff into your head and you learn as you move on and THEN it happens - you're addicted. ♡

    • @wupcheers9190
      @wupcheers9190 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wacchi Bacchi indeed you can see specific actions by pressing square on ps4 version. He also pointed out sometimes you want to recover your health but you cannot, which is partially not true. I remember if you put a healer class as the leader of a union, recovering options will always be there.

    Edited for grammar.
    It seems that you don't understand this game through and through.
    So please sit down for a moment and let me share good info with you.
    - Morale favors enemies? Psionics skill line let you shift morale easily.
    - Massive enemy army? wipe the battlefield with Arcanas.
    - Don't know what each unit does what? press Y to see what exactly what they gonna do.
    - Want to heal? which type heal? for Remedy heal set union leader with these classes : healer, bishop / for herb heal set union leader with these classes : scout
    you'll most likely to get "heal" command each time.
    - Party members will ask you what attribute of their equipment should they focus on (Attack / Mystic) and they ask you 2 times for each person as game progresses.
    - There's almost no luck involved you can control what action enemies will take by controlling morale, by having high morale certain enemies won't do AOE cheap moves.
    And by only enable / disable skills of your party members you will have a limited variety of useful also situational skills that will favor you more.
    - What works with unit grouping? simple : Physical single target moves for bosses, Mystic AOE for enemy unions which has multiple units in it.
    - So you think all of your union should be equal....its nothing wrong to think like that but know this, this game is like controlling army and you said it yourself.
    There will be tanking union, flanking union, dps rush down union, mystic users union, support union (healing specific union doesn't really work here because you SHOULD have a healer in each union)
    and these unions I mentioned must have an appropriate leaders with appropriate classes and appropriate union members to get appropriate BATTLE COMMANDS that suits your need, otherwise these won't happen.
    - This game's gameplay mechanics is a masterpiece and brilliant soundtrack slapped on top.
    The real cons of this game is horrible battle camera angle
    And those I mentioned above mostly never told by the game itself, you'll have to wiki for it.
    Anyways, I appreciated the review, its good to know that this absolute gem gets some love.

    When it came out, there are 2 ways of levelling, levelling stats and battle rank (BR) which the later would increase with chained battles.
    This meant that when I was getting to the post-game content, there was an optional dungeon, and the gold dragon I could not beat because my BR was too high to increase my stats, the only monsters that could increase my stats were past that gold dragon!
    Then I rearranged my unions, and tried again, the battle was epic easily 60 turns and 2-3hrs, it killed some of the members inside my unions early on, which meant that later, when the dragon spams its AoE attack, there was less hits and the union HP was still the same as the beginning. Every member of every union could heal.
    That fight is the best fight i have had in any game!

    • @SwitchWatch

      I find it hard to believe that anything can top the first "The Fallen" victory a player has. That battle is intense, manic, and mostly impossible if you dont plan your entire game around that one battle.
      It is still the crown jewel of my x box game score.

      But it isnt anymore in this remaster!
      I was playing this Game without taking care on BR to see if it is still broken. But it isnt.
      I did grinding on two parts on the game. To beat the fallen and finally the true concuerer. between this i was fighting at least every enemy I came across. I too was farming for rare ones . I beat this game with an BR of around 123 and I could still max out the stats of my units.

    You dont own the units in your game, you just hire them. They control their own gear. There is actually an option in game to change their gear, but it is disabled in the code(it is literally a single line of code that is set to 0). The number of unions you run is kind of dependent upon where you are in the game. I personally run 5 at the end of the game(one party is literally 2 units(Blocter and Jager because of the wonder bangle letting you clear debuffs fast). You can also partially control your actions by disabling ones that you dont want to pop up(I disable traps on Rush and evocations on Torgal for instance).
    The game has a ton of depth and a lot of mechanics that casual players may use, but have no idea what they are(like getting a specific class for Rush, crafting, etc). There is no best way to play either(you can grind early or late for instance. You can choose to run generic leaders or soldiers over unique ones.) It is actually possible to just speed through the game and beat the game fast(missing half of the content) or you can clock a couple hundred hours doing everything.
    8/10. One of my favorite games ever made. Im kind of borderline on this particular version though. The switch to unreal 4 has actually produced a couple issues that were not in the original pc version that the switch version is based on. Mainly aoe attacks. They are a bit more broken in this game. It is entirely possible to have all of your units taken out by a common enemy attack even when they are behind an attack that clearly goes forwards. So imo, the pc version is still the best version(not having sprint kinda sucks, but you can just use a trainer mod for that). The pc version allows customization through the in game files if you want to thoroughly break the game

    • @zannrebel1217
      @zannrebel1217 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The best way to play is to go into boss fights with as low BR as possible, because the higher your BR is the more skill sets bosses will use and in turn artificialy make them more difficult than they need to be.

  • @miahmagick
    @miahmagick 5 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    How do I know what attack/spell they're going to use? - Disable the ones you don't want them to use.
    I can't ensure my units will heal. - Either put a class that gets an increased chance of having healing commands (Healer for example) as the party leader, switch targets until you find an enemy that gives you the heal command, or look into what the commands do and see if any of the commands not listed explicitly as healing commands cause units with healing abilities to defer their turn until the end to see if you need to heal or not.
    Want to make sure a certain unit uses certain abilities? - Specialize that unit. Put mages together, melee characters together, etc.
    There's far less "luck" and "randomness" than this reviewer says. It's just not a game that's friendly to people who don't enjoy learning the nuance of the mechanics. Not being friendly to newcomers is accurate. The aforementioned monikers are not.

    • @tylerfaber1239
      @tylerfaber1239 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Pink I completely agree with you. I have this game on 360 still and I used to spam AOE spells. In order to get you’re guys to use certain moves more often just use those moves every time they come up in the options

    • @vayneglory655
      @vayneglory655 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Fair enough, but there is still a lot of randomness. Particularly in some boss fights. You just kind of have to hope they dont use certain moves that are, in my opinion, a little OP. Especially early on when no one union has a ton of hp or utility.

    • @miahmagick
      @miahmagick 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Usually utilizing Rangers for quick flanks will push the Morale bar enough that most bosses will default to reducing morale instead of AoE moves.
      Only really luck-based fight I can think of that you can't do much about is Nest of Eagles.

    While it’s true your units have their own equipment lines they use, you can influence what sort of equipment they take, as well as help them upgrade. You can also influence what actions units will take in battle depending on how you set up your unions. It’s quite in depth and can take a while to get a handle on. Note: this is from my experience with the PC version so the switch version may be slightly different.

  • @nananoah2084
    @nananoah2084 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Love this game. My major complaints are the lack of info about all the existent systems and especially that the BR system encourages the player to avoid battles way too strongly. It's a JRPG, I want to explore every inch of the maps and fight to my heart's content, yet if I do this I will probably hit an unsurmountable wall since the game difficulty increases the more enemies you fight and the better and faster you defeat them.

    • @savalaner2086
      @savalaner2086 ปีที่แล้ว

      The br part is only true until you get the max amount of people that you can have in your party at once, (18 units and 5 unions). so that's on disk 2, not going to say the name of the place because of spoilers for the switch. Once you get all 18 players, you don't have to reset your stats pretty much when getting a better character. You will have almost every character you need by then, a bit of character side quests still held back by story which may be a bit hard. The max battle rank is also 255, so if you were to theoretically get max br in the first part of the game, you could become overpowered right after you leveled up a bit more. You could make rush your main tank and damage dealer at the very start and make every person with heals you have in seperate teams just to heal. You could also wait until you get a specific few people and just level them all up at the same time before max br, but ofc that isn't needed at all and might take a bit. I have 25 or so br while inside of disk 2 and others have 65 at the end of disk 1. I can't get past this part of the main story, so I have the low enough br to justgrind stats a bit without goign through the trouble of max battle rank because of having to replace characters at the start of the disk. I also never hhad to replace characters once I got all 18 because I have a lack of them to be honest.

    Generally the combat is pretty easy to understand. You go for the higher numbers, unless you need to revive a squad, and then make sure you hit the critical triggers. I can understand why ppl may not like the ambiguity of moves presented to you, but for me it makes the gameplay way more exciting since turn based games can go on for a long time and not be interesting. I do genuinely believe this was a conscious decision to combat boredom.

What I'm trying to say is, a lot of reviews these days are generous and even a garbage can get a 7 from a "professional" reviewer. You sound more realistic and you just earned a new subscriber.
    Moving on...
    I played this game years ago on X360 and I liked it, even with all those problems (slowdowns were the worst, I don't even remember loadings). I didn't play PC version so I can't compare. Sad that the composer is known mainly for one game or that the composer just hasn’t had anything memorable in so long, at least in the West. A bit grindy to get past some of the cheesier optional bosses and rare monsters but i have been having a blast! The game play is not for fall but considering i never beat the game and will probably never fire up my xb360, i gladly double dipped on this title. If the Switch are picking some mothballed titles, i hope Operation Darkness is rediscovered which was microsofts response to PS3s Valkyeria Chronicles.

    At 7:50. You need to group them together based on their individual skills. The strongest person should be the leader during tough battles, but you have to mix and match to find who works well with who. It seemed pretty straight forward on the Xbox 360, but it's even easier on the switch because there's not a union leader category that is limited.
    This game is SO fun because it's so customisable and I know what skills to look for. I may have played this game way too much, but it's the strategy that brings me back and made me make the purchase on the switch. And PC. It's all more or less the same, but gameplay isn't difficult if you are familiar with blancing teams or team members in other games such as final fantasy.
    I agree though, that changing equipment on everyone would be a benefit to the game as a whole. I feel like it was very well thought-out for the time during its release. And it still holds up today. Sometimes, you just have to get good and intuit what is going to happen based on experience. Difficulty spikes are a thing, but it's Square.

    • @ToyokaX
      @ToyokaX 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It all depends on BR (Battle Rank). The higher it is, the more that enemies (and bosses) scale and the stronger their abilities get. Some enemies even learn new abilities that can really mess you up. You can get good items/arts if you build your team correctly and pretty much breeze through the main story, but there is a looot of content. Lots of side quests (some of which have pre-requisites or can be locked out of your playthrough if you complete things too early or out of order) and several optional areas to unlock. It's insane how much this game has. It's worth grinding on at least one playthrough to get materials and key items (which cross over onto new game+s) to get a better new game+ start and on subsequent playthroughs. There are even items that are not obtainable in the first (or even second, depending on how much of the game you've completed) playthrough. Like the Valeria Heart, a Remnant sword which does only 1 physical damage but has an innate insta-kill passive ability (does not work on bosses)! Man, I really wish they expanded on this one-off game into a franchise. It has so much potential.

  • @tylerfaber1239
    @tylerfaber1239 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Best way to get your healers to heal more often is go train them by repeating areas over and every time you’re given the option to heal use that option. The same goes for learning specific spells or physical skills. Like I like to have all my spell casters learn an AOE spell and abuse the shit out of it all the time. And by end game I have a bunch of units that can AOE multiple enemy unions for massive damage making battles so much easier
    Your comment about the limitations on the units tells me you never played very far into the game. Ya you start out only able to have a couple of unions (2 strong 1 weak) but by end game you can have 5 or 6 full unions (all strong).
    David is pronounced “Dah-veed” and Marquis is pronounced “mar-key”. they say them around 100 times throughout the game

    • @SwitchWatch
      @SwitchWatch  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Regarding the Unions, yes, by the end you have a full fledged army, but when you're spending so much time with the game underpowered, unbalanced units, I just think they didn't think it through. It should have been balanced throughout.
      Also, I refuse to give into dumb pronunciation. I don't care if they want me to pronounce David as Dav-eed or Marquis as Marquee. He's regal, not a fancy tent. 😂

    you said its up to the computer which attack he uses , but thats not entirely true, you can activate or deactivate abilities , limiting the rng. in fact, activating only one specific spell or action of a certain ability group most often ensures its activation.
    you can also choose what equipment your partymembers use to a certain degree. so i dont understand your point.
    the games difficulty also depends on how you are playing, its similar to Final Fantasy 8. the more you grind levels (BR) the stronger the enemies will be. obviously.
    the lover your level is the easier the game is,

      It’s a tough one. Personally I’d go with either FF12 or Valkyria 4. Although you’ll get some very different experiences from both so it’s not easy to say which one first. Valkyria 4 is a slow burner game, each battle is very long and methodical which needs a certain frame of mind or mood. But when you’re in that mode, it’s excellent. Whereas FF12 plods along at a very nice pace. You’re always going from place to place with a goal in mind and it’s a more laid back experience. I would say the story is quite good actually. So my answer is... which kind of mood you’re in?

      Last Remnant I looked up some FAQs and holy crap theres so many systems/quests/etc it seems a little daunting.
      Shining:Resonance seems just like a generic RPG but with music and dragons!!

    Completed my playthrough of this title last week such a phenominal game it really is, I definitely will be doing the new game plus, so many great characters, great ending though its a shame the game didn't sell well initially as that seems to be the reason it didn't recieve a sequal though depending on how you view the post credits scene, does it need a sequal? Is there more? I'd like to see a sequal or a new chapter in that world altogether, the characters alone and their journey is worth the play.

      The PC version was actually pretty good, the 360 version... eh...

    I've never beaten the "LOST REMNANT" in game. probably the most difficult boss out there.

      Yeah it was quite difficult but collecting remnants (side quests), special characters are fun and helpful with the final boss.

    I got this on pc way back when it came out on the 2010s and never played it cause it just had horrible controls and issues. been thinking of getting it for the Swish

    I wonder how playing xbox 360 one on series x compares to the remastered ps4 and switch version.

    Another Square Enix cash in. Nearly effortless port to the Switch. This was made on Unreal Engine and we all know that all Xbox 360 and PS3 games can run perfect on the Switch.

      To be fair, this is probably based on the PS4 version rather than the originals

      Has anybody else remade their Unreal Engine 3 games in Unreal Engine 4? Square Enix literally can't win with you people LOL.

    I sold my 360 copy because Last Remenant was more tedious then enjoyable. I don't think this remaster improves enough to make it worthwhile.

    • @SwitchWatch
      @SwitchWatch  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's fair enough, I wouldn't argue with anyone who thought it was tedious. It definitely can be if you're not into what it's trying to go for.

    I really want to love this game. I really do. On paper it sounds like it was made with me in mind! But I just cant. And I cant put my finger a single thing that trips me up. Whether it's the lack of real unit choice (because lets be honest, some generals outtier everyone else so badly it's not even reasonable to use anyone else), the trash fights alone that can last a half hour, the seeming coin toss you take on whether or not youre gonna win some fights, and the constant backtracking, it all just piled up and got in the way of the bits that i loved. A shame. :/
