Great work Paul - I remember that red colour. Dinky also sold this Escort as a kit, unassembled - bare-metal bodyshell, with doors, etc and paint (in 1973 I tried to build that kit - to make an Escort police-car).
Fabulous restoration Paul. The reason the doors go inside the car is because the plastic interior has a broken/missing stub.( Which is quite common on these models. Cheers Michael
Me too, VNN167G. Great little 1100 engine and so basic by today's standards.... really easy to look after. Loved it. I was heartbroken when it was nicked from our driveway and smashed into a tree, writing it off. My first and best car.
Two wonderful restoration projects done by a truly gifted, talented, amazing restoration artist!! Thank you so much for buying and rescuing these cool little cars, Paulie!! You’re the greatest
Superbe restauration, le résultat est remarquable, les techniques identiques à l'origine, félicitations , je vais me replonger dans mes Dinky ! j'ai été très admiratif devant le travail de moulage ! un travail de pro !
Very nice indeed...... Two very pretty little car toys 👍🏻👏🏻👌🏻 My first car was one of these, the same colour as on your box, though I resprayed it British Racing Green. Stolen and crashed ......😢
Ciao, Paul. Ormai non ho più parole per descrivere i tuoi restauri: sempre migliori e dettagliati. Complimenti.... PS: non avevo mai visto un pianale con i passaruota metallici
I’ve got 2 of these, from when i was a kid. If my memory serves me correctly, they were sold as a “build your own” style kit. I’ve done a code 3 restoration of one but the other is still stripped, waiting it’s place in the queue.
Yes, that's correct, this model was also sold as a kit in the Dinky Action-range. It's also one of several models changing colour mid-production from red metallic to blue metallic (The Mercedes-Benz 600 Pullman is another example) The design is not quite optimal: the doors always have a tendency to "over-shut" as we also see here, a problem increasing as the dies wore out, and the boot/trunk and hood/bonnet are so loose that they refuse to stay open, even when the models are quite new. Furthermore, the design with the thick wheelarch edges (being part of the baseplate), looks quite clumsy. I'm pretty sure the colour change from red metallic to blue metallic happened at the same time as the wheel switch from old style to Speedwheels, but the very earliest models were pale blue (as seen on the box artwork) and had old-style license plates (black background) The range was completed by a Police "panda" version, pale turquoise/white, catalogue number 270. Late production-run models came in the "bubble-top" boxes with the car on a cardboard plinth. The bubble tops turn absurdly fragile with age (and tend to go yellow/orange as well) so even if handled with extreme care, they crumble at the slightest touch, making them near impossible to transport in any way. I'm wondering if Paul would be able to recreate these bubble tops? The blue Escort is the only one to span both box types, so would be a perfect candidate for one of these infamous bubble boxes.
The transition to speedwheels occurred in 1974 ,over a period of time to use up the stocks of the cast hubs. Roughly coinciding with the colour change and moulded in steering wheel, dinky where busy cheapening the range.
@@teebodk3917 wow, thanks mate. You’re a wealth of knowledge. I agree with you re the casting faults and the bases in the wheel arches. I fixed the wheel arch problem with my first one by creating massive wheel flares, similar to the racing versions. I made my own deep dish wide wheels from some large Hotwheels wheels. It looks pretty good, but it’s not for the purists who prefer original condition or restoration.
Excellent job Paul your restorations are always a pleasure to watch. One small point the licence plate ending in E is incorrect for a British car as the very first Escorts were registered in 1968 and the earliest suffix letter would have been an F.
You're correct - E registrations were issued from January 1st 1967 to July 31st 1967 and F from August 1st 1967 to July 31st 1968. (Before the E registrations, the letter denoting the year of registration ran from January 1st to December 31st, with E they stared changing the letter in August so E-plates were issued for a shorter period than other letters.) The very first Escorts were produced in November 1967 after the letter had switched to F. The very last Mk1 Escorts had N (or possibly P) registrations.
Another fantastic job, Paul, look Brilliant better than when they came out at Dinky all those years ago, looking forward to seeing the next project, all the best to you and your family.
Very impressive Paul your talents have no limits and your attention for detail is phenomenal really liked this restoration and as always it's a pleasure watching you do your magic 👍 . Until next time 😊
Bravo Paul.
These are fabulous restorations, really enjoyed this one. On the real cars, the letters F O R D are picked out in chrome at the front of the bonnet. Not sure if they were on the models? Probably not!
I love the old Dinky models! I only collected the 1:64 scale cars mainly because that is what I could afford, and what I was used to. Plus, it saved space! But some of my most treasured childhood memories were spending time in the local toy shop admiring the full line of Dinky and Corgi models that were displayed in the glass showcases. It was like visiting an expensive jewelers and gazing at fine watches. I always took home the latest catalogs that were given away free, and read those every night, studying the models. The Dinky models always had so many opening features, the smart number plates, and I particularly like how this model had the full frame door. Few manufacturers could be bothered with that detail. It was a masterpiece, and glad to see that both examples are experiencing a second life!
Ford Escort! When 18 I had a Mk2 I welded and filled in the boot painted the bumpers body colour removed the interior for weight loss! WHY! ? TEEN BRAIN! 😂Great resto. X 2

Hi Paul Another great video. Have you ever done or considered doing the Gerry Anderson Joe 90 car. Would make an interesting video if you chose to do one.
Great video. Ive had a fair few of the models you've done, so everytime i see a familiar model it brings back alot of memories from my toy model collection, which my mother gave away many years later without my permission. I was not happy!!! The couple who lived upstairs from my grandparents ground floor maisonette both had a 2 door mk1 escort each (uncommon in the 70's in a working class area) one blue, one red and both with oblong headlamps just like the models you've renovated. (unlike the more common round headlamps) Also I thought I'd let you know about British registrations. (suffix registration as thier known) Starting at the letter A in 1963, registrations ran from 1st August until 31st July then the next letter of the alphabet repeat starts on 1st August. Just to let you know that E plate is too early for a mk1 escort, as the first escorts were on a F 1968 plate. Letters NOT used for year identification were I,O,U and Z. The letter Q was only ever used for vehicles of an undetermined age, kit cars for example where parts of different ages were used in its construction. Then in August 1983 prefix registration started. For example A123 ABC and so on. I hope this helps anyone. British TH-camrs have also done videos about it.
Mooi werk weer, hoor Paul.

FYI the last letter on the registration is a year letter. E is 1967, the first year of manufacture of these cars 👍😀
Wrong 1968!
@@terrybeechener5992 internet says no, I'm afraid.
E = 1/1/67 to 31/7/67.
In reality the ford escort mk1s earliest uk prefix would be F registered August 1st 67 to end July 68 .no mk1s carried a E reg.
