I found this show on Netflix and thought "meh, what the hell". I am so glad I found it because it talks about mental illness and the stigma associated with it but puts it into a thoughtful light and not one that makes it seem taboo
My boss showed me “don’t be a lawyer” (we’re both lawyers) and I decided to watch it, thinking it would just be a funny show, but just like you said, it was much more powerful than that.
I haven't gotten around to watching this show, I just looked up this clip because I'm obsessed with Josh Groban lately, and I was having trouble trying to figure out if the song he was singing was jokey or not, because that beautiful bastard can make anything sound epic and sweeping. Until that beautiful bastard just straight up appears behind Rebecca and starts singing the song directly *at* her. I think I have a new show to start watching.
@@Jasmine-ei1ty completely with you! I have yet to fill the void that was created & subsequently filled by Crazy Ex Girlfriend. I didn't know how much I needed this show until I started watching it & more so once it ended! Therefore I blame the makers of the show 🤣 & demand a come-back or an equally satisfying new programme 🙏🤣!
I loved this ending! What could be better than having Josh Groban singing, and those credits were brilliant. Why did they get cut off here? They should be complete! They were so much fun to read. Love this show.
When I was first watching this episode, I legit burst out laughing at "you're looking for answers, but answers aren't looking for you" & "LIKE ME JOSH GROBAN!" Ps. Is Josh Groban supposed to be a dream ghost or a wind?
It's sort of a mini-spoiler, but these songs are Rebecca's Broadway musical version of her life, happening in her imagination where all of her friends are singing and dancing, so Josh Groban is part of that fantasy. She has also dreamed of Dr. Phil, and had imaginary therapy sessions with her psychiatrist who is very agreeable when Rebecca is just imagining her.
@@maxaustin3377 Actually it was Adam Schlesinger. The songwriting team included Rachel Bloom, but this particular song was all Adam. He also sings on the version found on Spotify.
I'm right at the end of War and Peace and, knowing Josh Groban played one of the characters in a musical based on part of the book, I keep thinking of Pierre singing this.
It would’ve been perfect if they added the clip just after the song where the swedish hostel guy goes “that doesn’t happen in the movies”. But then again that’s pretty much the message of the song

It has some tragic ironie that toxic shows like "Sex & the City" (that teaches women that it is their job to be beautiful and that they are not allowed to have a pimple or hair etc.) are considered "feministic" while this masterpiece of a show adresses mental health, toxic body images, gender stereotypes and -generalization in a very honest way. CEG is mabe one of the very few tv-shows that show these things just like they are without drifting into capitalistic propaganda.
i sing his name now whenever i see him in things. I love for the day I see him person, like a block away or across the airport, and I announce his presence to all present. (I am loud and i love him)
This episode and mostly this season so far (I'm in this song's episode lol) caught me so off guard because it hits some serious low deep though note while still making you laugh about the absurdity, like you can be watching the most tense and dramatic scene and something happens and you laugh but the tension is there, it just so happens that laughter and tension are on equal levels and THE FACT THEY MANAGED TO DO THAT IS SOO BRILLIANT LIKE WHAT IN THE ACTUAL WORLD IS THIS EVEN REAL OR ARE WE JUST... AAAAAA
This song is so true and I think we all fall into that trap of expecting life to make narrative sense even if it's like trying to fit a square peg in a round hole. It's a series of moments, some amazing and some not-so-amazing.
Janelle Westbrook smart person on TH-cam sounds so smart for determining how comedic a show is based on a 3 minute song with a one-off josh groban feature
Not to be THAT person... but Rebecca was clearly in a massively mentally vulnerable and potentially disabled state where she was trying to find relief from her trauma reaction and calm down and then Greg's dad starts making her feel worse and encouraging her to drink to the extent that as the father of a man she dated, who he poisoned her reputation to and shamed her for having issues with the abuse she endourded based on the alcoholism Greg had which was a learned habbit from his dad, get her to get drunk to an extent that she wakes up to a realization of having had sex with him where she has a whole song in her head contemplaiting killing herself...isn't that rape? And not even if she was out of her mind drunk but later on she is diagnosed with borederline personality disorder so isn't that kindof taking advantage of someone with a disability in the heat of the worse part of the disorder and then making it worse, encouraging them to abuse a substance in a state where they already can't make rational choices, making the situation worse and then once that way beyond perfect storm that he perpetuaited makes her vulnerable enough to not defend herself from the predations of an old, abusive, man kiiiiiiindof making it rape? Like she was TRYING to get out of a mental and psychotic break down and he pushed it over the edge and was with her while she was also having issuea with self-medication.... like...isn't this kindof rape?
Honestly I was really upset they made Rebecca do this. They didn't have to put such a tear in her relationship with Greg because the actor he left the show.
I mean, I get you, I think it quite ironically made narrative sense because she's at her lowest and... Burning bridges and such. I was so scared they would bring Greg back because the send off was so perfect and he is one of the characters who actually deserve the tied up clean wholesome send off he got. I would have absolutely HATED it if Rebecca made contact with him because that would literally mean destroying his character development because at this point Rebecca is just drowning and dragging everyone around her with her.
Crazy ex gf is a really underrated show. The song numbers really make it unique

*This is the first musical of any kind that I didn't fall asleep to during the musical parts.*
(Broadway-style songs are very talky-talky.)
this show is so phenomenal. i’m glad it’s getting the love it deserves
The mental health arc is so beautifully done
If you saw a movie like real life you'd be like 'what the hell was that movie about?'

"Life doesn't make narrative sense" has become part of my vocabulary,
To have the strength to ignore Josh Groban singing right beside you 😂
Josh Groban reminds me of a giant puppy in this video, he just looks so fluffy and adorable

I doubt that there's something more funny than Josh Groban singing with his angelic voice "Never bang your ex-boyfriend's dad"

False. Angels have the voice of Josh Groban.

The josh groban version isnt on spotify which is pretty rude tbh
They didn't record it as a single, some technicality I think
I need this song in Spotify when I go for a sad walk

Anyone else think Josh Grobin and Santino Fontana look and sound like they could be brothers?
Yes! Thank You!
I never thought about it before but now that you mention it. Yes completely
My heart fluttered when I thought it was Greg, then I saw Groban and was, not going to lie really disappointed 😔
Sound? yes, look? HOW??
Yes! When I saw the thumbnail for this video, I thought Santino came back in a cameo as a completely different character because of the beard.
He just get better looking every year!! And this show is so good I wish more people watched it.
