You should definitely react to Kubo and the Two strings, it's by the same company and has amazing animation and storyline that I think you'd love and would be interesting to watch!
This movie had surprisingly deep messages about discrimination, mob mentality, and how we deal with the past. Note that the whole town has turned the horrific hanging of a little girl into a tourist attraction so they can profit off it. However, just like the ghosts that Norman can speak to, the past will not stay buried forever, and we as people need to learn how to live with that.
Fun Fact: During the last few weeks leading up to the film's release, Laika sent 49 packages to 49 people (including Neil Gaiman and Kevin Smith). Each package consisted of a wooden crate from "Blithe Hollow" full of "grave dirt" which recipients had to dig through to unearth a coffin. Inside the coffin was one of the seven cursed zombies, complete with background information and name.
i also just noticed how Neil said in the beginning that if they had more power they'd be a bully too, and i think that's exactly what happened to Aggie, she turned to a bully because she finally had the power.
I like how Judge Hopkins and the zombies of the old townsfolk learn what it's like from the victim's side of an angry mob and do what they can to make things right.
the entire final act with Norman talking to Aggie and trying to comfort her and explain to her she's behaving no differently than those that persecuted and executed her is a powerful moment and very heartbreaking. The whole film is soooo good and definitely one of my favorite stop motion films, I watch it every Halloween.
I saw this in a drive through with my sister when it came out. We’re both gay and live in a conservative state and when it was revealed Mitch was gay I made a joke about trying to count the cars that left because of the reveal. No cars did leave but we both laughed until we cried
@@simplebull210Hey, the sister here! Kiddo2468 is a delight to be around, and if you knew the kind of town we came from you might understand why we were comfortable making that assumption. All the best to you!
@simplebull210 Yo, very uncalled for. This proves that YOU don't know their situation. People prolly didn't leave only because it was the end of the movie so there'd be no point. The fact that they even had thoughts about who'd leave DOES show the type of people living in their town. Like it's very known that conservative towns aren't very welcoming to those they dint like. I won't act like I know what everyone in the town is like but it says something when the people who live there comment about how people would react.
This is probably my favorite Laika film with Kubo being a close second. I really love the punchline for the jock bro one of the best and funniest surprises of the movie. This has everything I love about a good horror film because it has that emotional core that's true to life and really nails it.
Kubo reminds me of the first time I saw a ghibli film they capture such a specific feeling of child wonder and it's rare I find media that still manages to get to me like that 😅
The witch’s surname was the same as the uncle’s, so the witch is probably related to Norman and the ability to talk to the dead probably passes down through the family showing up in some members.
this movie is so underrated. i know people say that all the time but this one genuinely is, it always gets overshadowed by coraline but tbh, i like this better! literally every aspect, the story, the writing, the characters, the cinematography, the smoother stop-motion, the theme
52:31 "Superstitious people in the 1600s, man" Me: *pointedly* looks and gestures to what is happening in our very modern times Loved the reaction! Yall are a great duo with clear love and knowledge for the art
This is one of my favourite horror movies ever made cos it perfectly walks the line between horror and tragedy. It’s funny and scary and beautifully animated but it’s also devastatingly sad at its core and I love that.
I literally cry everytime I watch it the soundtrack is so sad and the confrontation from Norman to Agatha isn’t scary to me but so sad because they both are bullied and in a day of Agatha Norman could’ve ended up just like her
If I remember correctly, the behind the scenes told an unbelievable amount of work, there was so so much done hand made. Hair, clothes, skin color, everything… just amazing. The older brother was my favorite character, never judge…I think is the theme of the movie, just a amazing film.
Mitch being a gay character was such a big moment. He just happens to be gay. Which is a big win for straight and gay relationships. It honestly just helps to remove alienation.
100% agree!!! And it doesn't feel thrown in (on or off screen) (looking at you "gay" Dumbledore). He's in a relationship, he's not even thinking about finding someone. He's not hitting on anyone. His whole body language and speech shows a lack of interests. It's the single straight people that are obsessed with whatever they are attracted to. He feels like a real person who just happens to be is gay.
Love love love this movie so much. It’s fun, scary and emotional. Sometimes horror is good for kids, like the movie said, there’s nothing wrong with being scared. Laika as a studio is very underrated/under appreciated. It’s starting to get more appreciation as the people that grew up with it got older, and dwells on the nostalgia with others on the internet, but they just deserves more recognition honestly.
This is my favorite Laika movie along with Kubo and the Two Strings. It's not only amazing in its themes but the handcraft that went into it. The fact that clothing is painted by hand and they use as little vfx as posible or only when absolutely needed. Kubo and the Two Strings is a beautiful movie too hope you get the chance to watch it aswel as Coraline without it we wouldn't have all the other Laika movies.
I love all of Laika's flicks but this is my absolute favorite. I re-watch it on the regular. I hope you guys continue to watch Laika's movies, as Coraline and The Boxtrolls are fantastic and my second faves. Also, Neil is one of my most favorite characters. I freakin' love him.
The music for this film is by Jon Brion who is such an underrated and underappreciated composer. Did films like Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Lady Bird, Step Bothers and Punch-Drunk Love. My favorite score from his is Magnolia. One of the most beautiful scores ever made and one of my personal favs. Can't wait for u guys to react to that film on this channel. Its amazing. This film is probably my favorite Laika stop motion animated film.
This is my favorite Laika movie. The artistry in the puppets always amazes me. You should def check out their behind the scenes which goes over the materials they use.
This movie even tho I loved it I always felt like there was something missing. One plot I always feel like they should’ve made a bigger deal is the reflection of Norman and His sister with their mom and uncle’s relationship. I know the sister does stand up for Norman but I wish it was a bigger thing specially with her mom not even knowing her brother died. Instead we got more focus on the dad when in imo should’ve been the mom. When everything seems to come from the mom’s side of the family. Specially since we have the Uncle and Witch being versions of how Norman could end up like. Both of them being related to him.
Norman calls Mr Prenderghast his uncle, but he's actually his great-uncle. when the parents are arguing in the beginning, you can hear his dad tell his mom "i'm not gonna let him turn out like that uncle of yours." so, not her brother
This is a great movie, not what I expected when I first watched it and love the animation!!!! I would recommend kubo and the two strings it’s a beautiful stop motion animated movie hope for a reaction to it one day!! Geekjects ❤❤❤
As someone who really really likes stop motion I want more I loved paranorman, coraline and the Pinocchio film on Netflix I want more. Love the content rejects ❤
This movie took so much work and time to do just to be underated and not get tye recognition it deserved And the movie has such deep, dark and powerful messaging in it even tho it is a kids movie Ive seennit for the first time last year and i looked for the behind the scenes, very impressive
I would LOVE more reactions from Laika Studios, they’re such an amazing studio and you can tell all their projects are done with care and love. Support stop motion 😊
insane how agatha and the film version of alessa from the silent hill movie had the exact same backstory, AND they're played by the same person (jodelle ferland)
I love stop motion and i've always been a huge fan of it. When i was younger i would make shorts with legos and clay. i stopped for a while but i got back into it in he past year. right now im working on a short film (DP vs HM). I dont wanna say too much but if you know me (and my superchats) i think you could put together what part of the story will be.
This is one of the best of Laika. I have been to the studio(as I live right next to it in Hillsboro Oregon! And they have given this movie much more love there. They have pictures and designs/storyboards of the movie all over the place now. I dont think it was very big(not like coraline) but it was great. The visuals alone are so stunning, espcially the climax in the woods. Also this is the first animated kids movie to have an openly gay character! They did it so casually its great.
Laika reached a new level in charactera lighting sound effects.the result is my fav 'halloween' animated film of all time. I wish Norman and pals would get a spin off short where he finds mothman, lochness,el chupacabra,Fresno nightcrawlers or missing link on Vacation. With the title Paranorman the series is open for more than just ghosts and zombies. The fact they werent afraid of adult humor reminds me of 80's movies monster squad and helps age the movie.
This is definitely an underrated Gem. I thnk Quintions Rule of only ten movies is he looks at is Less is more or Quality over quantity doesmt want to over do it my personal favor of his is Django
Fun fact: Not only does it sound like paranormal but "Paranorman" Just separate Para + Norman, Translated from Spanish to English is read "For Norman" It's a double joke
Laika Studios have a TH-cam channel where they talk about and show off the work that goes knto making these films and it's absolutely incredible stuffs

Definitely do Coraline next please. I think you'll really enjoy it.
You should definitely react to Kubo and the Two strings, it's by the same company and has amazing animation and storyline that I think you'd love and would be interesting to watch!
@@glossgwnn yes, but Coraline first. 😁
Norman and the witch are definitely related. her name is Agatha Prenderghast, and his maternal (great-)uncle is Mr. Prenderghast
