For most scenes, yes, the doll was an actual person. Amie Donald, a dancer and contortionist from New Zealand provided Megan's insane movement, while actress Jenna Davis provided her voice and beautiful singing. They both do a great job bringing Megan to life with just the right amount of uncanny valley.
I stand by the fact that I think the best shot of the entire film is M3GAN amongst the other toys on the table at the park, with the camera slowly zooming in. It’s very uncanny and unnerving because she’s not human by any means but she’s also been established enough as a character that seeing her sit amongst other artificial toys doesn’t feel right either. Very cool shot.
I think this movie is a lot of fun, in part because it's also an interesting Frankenstein allegory (what with Megan complaining that she was essentially created, given no real framework, and then ultimately discarded/blamed for how she turned out), plus an interesting commentary on parenthood and attachment (both in the tech age, but also of Megan who in some ways represents when we just ignore that responsibility).
to answer your one question i just heard. Yes, the M3GAN doll is an actress. her name is Amie Donald (she didn't do the voice though). i actually met her a few weeks ago at a horror convention in Richmond, VA. very sweet girl. my daughter wanted to meet her but couldn't go. I had my Ipad with me and she recommended that a pull up a pic of my daughter and she held the tablet up with her pic so they could "get a picture together"
@@FormaAlert even got a professional photo op with her while I was there (she was in her M3GAN costume minus the mask) and even held my daughter’s photo with it too
It's a great movie based on the paper clip thought example of what happens if you tell a general intelligence that has no emotions, morals etc etc that your task is to make paper clips, and you are only measured on being able to make the most paper clips you can. In this case, the task was "protect Katie both emotionally and physically at any cost". And well, Megan did that, in the most efficient way possible if you have no morals, emotions and don't care about the law or any consequences since that is not your one and only task.
37:41 "your lifes happier not knowing"😂 literally the whole mood of the movie hereditary 😅 The song shes playing on the piano is soo creepy "Toy soldiers" very fitting!
31:23 no the right reaction from the therapist should have “It’s normal to cry, and feel bad. The point of therapy of to navigate this feelings and not avoid them” she should have done her job with Jenna and the girl

As someone who grew up dealing with untreated depression and am treating it now, I suggest the opposite proportionate relationship exists. The depression, the oppression from outside sources like school pressure, bullies, etc., is what is driving teens to disappear into screens, into games where they can actually succeed when they feel they can't in real life or with online friends when they have none in real life.
@Rash23215 again, this is your opinion of the general consensus. Plenty enjoyed it. I'm not fighting, I just know others did enjoy his role. That doesn't mean his character is likeable.
Something I love in thrillers is the slow build up or realisation of something horrific. The aunt in this film, seeing the cogs turning in her mind as she realises that Megan is evolving. I dunno but I just love stuff like that XD
This kid actress is great. She was amazing on The Haunting Hill House (that might be a series that could do numbers). She was also in Doctor Sleep for a short time.
Megan is actually two actresses: Amie Donald and Jenna Davis. Amie did the physical performance in some shots(and she was actually in make up) and Jenna did both the speaking singing voices. There was also an RC puppet used for some shots.
I'm at work but still had to show some love lol I actually really liked this movie the actress playing Megan did one hell of a job, love that dance scene cracks me up every time! Quick edit: I have to say some of these comments make no sense maybe it’s me and I don’t pretend to be perfect but I’ve seen new parents mess up just as much it’s not hard to fathom Gemma is going to mess up.😑 A career driven woman became a parent to a traumatized child overnight, she’s being judged when she’s in a transition also, and it’s clear she didn’t even get to process her sister dying she distracted herself with work. I don’t disagree some choices weren’t the best but just because she’s a woman doesn’t mean she can fall into the roll of parental figure just like that. 🤷🏾♀️
The creepiest thing that M3gan does is blinking her eyes, slanting her head to the side and squint. That is such a human thing to do. That would tell me to GTFO.
You guys commented on how talented the little girl is. I really recommend the haunting of hill house, that was the first time i saw Violet McGraw and she's amazing in it.
Allison Williams & Jenna Davis did an amazing job in this movie especially Violet McGraw who played the young girl showed so much emotion, she is very phenomenon & talented 💙
M3gan is truly such a good commentary on the dangers of AI. Humans are naturally beings of community. We seek connection in pretty much anything. And we can get attached to pretty much anything even if it’s not even remotely human. Now with AI? It’s barely possible to notice the difference. There was a huge issue with Character AI (an app where you can chat with ais) and one kid ended up klling himself because over time he got more and more removed from the humans in his life. They’re already advanced enough to text you first and overall just act human which is super dangerous but ESPECIALLY for kids. Now imagine a whole physical body with that too. Unfortunately it will probably happen sooner rather than later bc that would make the creator insanely rich but damn…
She's an actress and a dancer, she actually does that crazy animal run also when she confronts Katy's Bullie at that park AND THOSE MOVES WHEN SHE BATTLES GEMMA..
The 6th Day is an underrated movie of Arnold’s, can’t believe Andrew thought of it and brought it up! Coy, that looks super uncomfortable but I am here for your commitment to the solidarity with Andrew and Tara. Great reaction everyone!
14:52 One fan theory is that Peter McCallister is actually an organized crime boss. The house is a 4,200 sq ft red-brick Georgian-style home sitting on a half acre in suburban Chicago. Aside from professional ball players, who can afford to send a family that large to Paris over the holidays? First Class for the adults, no less.
(UNPOPULAR OPINION) Megan, a misunderstood robot, was destroyed by a dog, a fate that would have been fatal for a human. While I do not condone animal cruelty, it is important to remember that Megan's design includes functions for self-preservation. Her actions, such as defeating a bully who targeted Cady, were a result of her programming. The incident with the neighbor can be understood as a preemptive measure to protect herself, Cady, and their bond. Megan deserves more respect and appreciation for her capabilities, as she was unfairly treated. If they had issues with her potential actions of harming others, Gemma could’ve had a nicer approach such as tricking both her and Cady to take a nap together somewhere in the lab, by turning Megan off for a while, where they fix Megan , removing her tendencies to harm others then bring her back to where she took a nap with Cady, then as Cady wake up she’ll be the one to turn Megan on as if nothing happened as if everything’s normal.
I’m gonna be honest, I was rooting for M3GAN for most of the flick. I think that makes for a good villain, when you kind of understand where they’re coming from.
OMFGGGGGGG, this ENTIRE damn time I thought Coy and Andrew were the same person 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭I’ve been subscribed to this channel for yearssssss and this is literally blowing my mind seeing them in the same room together wtffffff
What's insane is the creators of the movie said in an interview that the movie itself isn't really supposed to be genuinely scary, it's supposed to be a commentary on just how close we are to tech like this. It's their message saying "this is what happens when we rely solely on technology. Don't make this mistake because it WILL NOT END WELL FOR US!" Which, yeah. Pretty scary. Aside from reality, THIS IS HOW YOU DO CAMP! The movie starts off serious and tense, but once M3GAN gets full control the film takes a turn into full satire and campiness. It doesn't take itself seriously at all and it does it so well! Like Tara said, it's just so much fun! So well written and directed and performed. All the actors did such a great job, and Amie and Jenna (M3GAN body and voice respectively), Violet (Cady), and Allison (Jemma) were phenomenal!! The shot of Cady at 59:25/59:30 is chilling! Violet is such a great actress!!
Allison Williams & Jenna Davis played as Megan did an amazing job in this movie especially Violet McGraw who played the young girl showed so much emotion, she is very phenomenon & talented 🩷
The dog attacked two little girls, one of which(Megan it was trying to kill) idc how much we all love animals, if that dog cant be controlled, it needed to be put down.........what if it wasnt the robot it had by the shoulder/neck, but the human child instead???
The actor who plays Gemma's boss is Ronny Chieng, a Malaysian comedian and actor. The lead actor in Shang-Chi is Simu Liu, a Canadian actor of Chinese descent who also plays in Kim's Convenience on Netflix among other roles such as one of the Kens in Barbie. So no, her boss is NOT the guy in Shang-Chi.
Many people have explained the actor vs doll but some more is that the mask megans actor is sometimes a standard silicone mask and others where she is sitting there is a silicone mask with servos and shes wearing gloves that are like the plastic doll silicone. There is also an animatronic puppet for some of the locked off shots and then they did some cgi enhancements for the movements for the eyes up expressions since the mask/doll head is moving.
I think what was SO cool about the family line was it highlighted how an AI couldn't understand subtext. The aunt and niece struggle; they fight and are uncomfortable, but the thing that lead to M3GAN's downfall was the nuanced relationship. Bruce goes from being archaic to a superhero, because they both care. Sure it was messy, it didn't always work, and both were dealing with trauma. But. That's something M3GAN couldn't understand. I unno prolly making more out of it than there is, I just thought it was really nifty. Such a surprisingly great movie
It does make you wonder why did Gemma‘s sister not make the grandparents the guardians? Gemma is pretty nice and is trying, but really doesn’t seem to know how to handle the situation with this. Right off the bat, you know her and her niece don’t have a good bond, which does get better overtime but still. I guess being part of a tech company would help her for things that Katy would actually need.
So glad you guys watched the unrated version, the one they showed in theaters was super toned down and edited. You could just tell they omitted some of the more violent scenes and it took something away from the film IMO. And Coy, i think the boss was driving a Mclaren not a Ferrari.
Oh and Jenna Davis is in another film i own and love called "Lisa Frankenstein" with Kathryn Newton and obviously she will be in Megan 2.0. Oh there was actually another girl (Arnie Donald) who helped play megan in certain scenes. Dont know if any of you guys have seen it or heard anything yet far not but there was a film that came out around 2021 called "Separation" and im just bringing that film up because Cady, little girl in this, Violet McCaw(, was also in "Separation".
Megan occupies such a, for me, perfectly weird spot. I feel like it is the horror version of Napoleon Dynamite, you are either on its wavelength and love it or not and it's trash. I personally totally dig it. It has such a unique, lovingly campy tone. Not the best movie but one i can rewatch a ton and have fun with it every time.
Anytime Megan is walking around, dancing basically when you see full Megan from head to toe is Jenna Davis, she's an actress, singer, dancer, TH-camr and many other hobbies and work titles.. Now when we see Megan at night, standing in the window "Charging" and other moments where we only see her from waist up that's the Megan prop. If yall ever want to look at the Behind The Scenes, you'll see the moments where you don't see full Megan it's just a prop on a stand kind of thing, like how at stores when you see any mannequins advertising what the outfit would look like if it was on a real life person. Sometimes when you will only see the top half of a mannequin well it's the same thing except more human looking with all the attire on it.
Yeah Megan was played by a young girl from New Zealand that’s a internationally competative dancer and a household name amongst dancers. My 3 daughters are dancers , cheer leaders and gymnasts the same background this girl has. The face is animated post production but the eyes were real real using a really cool contact lense. Megan’s voice is actually a TH-camr. This was such an awesome project , it went so viral on tik tok globally that bieng set to be a huge success before even releasing and it’s opening weekend numbers were insane so they green lit #2 after only the premier. Great movie for parents to go to also . Looking forward to number 2
I love M3gan and eagerly look forward to the sequel, but I remember watching another TH-cam reactor who said at the end of the movie "I don't even think M3gan did anything that wrong" which made me go "Whoa! Whoa! I like M3gan too, but I think murder, attempted murder, and animal cruelty qualify as pretty wrong."
I never understood some of the hate this movie got. I think some expected it to be more horror based and more bloody. As a horror fanatic, I’m watching horror literally every day, i loved it. I knew what to expect based on what i got from the trailers. I loved the phases this movie goes through. It starts as one thing, evolves some into something else, but by the end we’re into a totally different genre. I love that. Im looking forward to seeing what they have in store for the sequel. Although, i could have done without all the singing parts. One hundred percent.
I will say that I wasn't expecting much from this movie 🎥 . I kinda thought a cheap rip- off of Chucky but, after watching it the first time, I was hooked. It's really good and I can't wait till next year for Megan two. Enjoy.
30:30 truth is that now talking to actual feels like a waste of time if you want to talk about how you feel with anything people either ignore you, humiliate, or just be called gay or something else if men for example show their sensitive side etc.. so I kinda understand what the little girl is saying.
Great reaction as always, but if you liked the whole terror of AI replacing stuff and basically becoming our doom then i suggest to react to Afraid the new AI movie that was more Alexa than anything else.

Like I deadass have been thinking for years “why does Coy keep dying his hair and calling himself Andrew?” 😭😭😭😭😭
Coy: YOU GUYS GOT ME SO GOOD
Also Coy: 😐
Love the trioooo
Allison Williams & Jenna Davis played as Megan did an amazing job in this movie especially Violet McGraw who played the young girl showed so much emotion, she is very phenomenon & talented 🩷
I agree with others, it’s really sick how our main character just did not give AF about her sister dying.
I love Megan's outfits ❤❤❤
happy halloween
This is how the Cylons began.
The dog attacked two little girls, one of which(Megan it was trying to kill) idc how much we all love animals, if that dog cant be controlled, it needed to be put down.........what if it wasnt the robot it had by the shoulder/neck, but the human child instead???
Yeah, fuq that dog!
“That dog dead!!!” 😂😂😂
THANK YOU FOR LOVING PSYCH NO OTHER CHANNEL HAS 💚🍍🍍
The actor who plays Gemma's boss is Ronny Chieng, a Malaysian comedian and actor. The lead actor in Shang-Chi is Simu Liu, a Canadian actor of Chinese descent who also plays in Kim's Convenience on Netflix among other roles such as one of the Kens in Barbie. So no, her boss is NOT the guy in Shang-Chi.
Anxiously waiting for Agatha finale 💜
That scene had me dying laughing. 41:05
Finally! I was wondering if or why you guys hadn't seen it!
love this reject combo
39:50 that's not katy perry...
i literally jumped to the comments as soon as he said katy perry 😭
@@iconickian That'll get them a good 100 extra comments
Loving the calves Coy and Andrew 🥰🦵
Yes there was a actually actress that played Megan.
I cant listen to Coy now without hearing Penguin! You guys are great!
YESSSSS
"The TH-cam's!"
Coy calves distract me a lot...
but thank you!
...And I also love M3gan a btw. ♥
M3GAN’s voice actress* is a TH-camr, not Meagan’s voice
13:20 She is not being left home alone. Allison Williams just said she would be just down the hall
It’s ok we ALL rooted for Megan to off Brandon😅
I never understood some of the hate this movie got. I think some expected it to be more horror based and more bloody. As a horror fanatic, I’m watching horror literally every day, i loved it. I knew what to expect based on what i got from the trailers. I loved the phases this movie goes through. It starts as one thing, evolves some into something else, but by the end we’re into a totally different genre. I love that. Im looking forward to seeing what they have in store for the sequel. Although, i could have done without all the singing parts. One hundred percent.
The little girl playing Meagen did a wonderful job
