For most scenes, yes, the doll was an actual person. Amie Donald, a dancer and contortionist from New Zealand provided Megan's insane movement, while actress Jenna Davis provided her voice and beautiful singing. They both do a great job bringing Megan to life with just the right amount of uncanny valley.
I stand by the fact that I think the best shot of the entire film is M3GAN amongst the other toys on the table at the park, with the camera slowly zooming in. It’s very uncanny and unnerving because she’s not human by any means but she’s also been established enough as a character that seeing her sit amongst other artificial toys doesn’t feel right either. Very cool shot.
to answer your one question i just heard. Yes, the M3GAN doll is an actress. her name is Amie Donald (she didn't do the voice though). i actually met her a few weeks ago at a horror convention in Richmond, VA. very sweet girl. my daughter wanted to meet her but couldn't go. I had my Ipad with me and she recommended that a pull up a pic of my daughter and she held the tablet up with her pic so they could "get a picture together"
@@FormaAlert even got a professional photo op with her while I was there (she was in her M3GAN costume minus the mask) and even held my daughter’s photo with it too
I think this movie is a lot of fun, in part because it's also an interesting Frankenstein allegory (what with Megan complaining that she was essentially created, given no real framework, and then ultimately discarded/blamed for how she turned out), plus an interesting commentary on parenthood and attachment (both in the tech age, but also of Megan who in some ways represents when we just ignore that responsibility).
It's a great movie based on the paper clip thought example of what happens if you tell a general intelligence that has no emotions, morals etc etc that your task is to make paper clips, and you are only measured on being able to make the most paper clips you can. In this case, the task was "protect Katie both emotionally and physically at any cost". And well, Megan did that, in the most efficient way possible if you have no morals, emotions and don't care about the law or any consequences since that is not your one and only task.

Megan is actually two actresses: Amie Donald and Jenna Davis. Amie did the physical performance in some shots(and she was actually in make up) and Jenna did both the speaking singing voices. There was also an RC puppet used for some shots.
Something I love in thrillers is the slow build up or realisation of something horrific. The aunt in this film, seeing the cogs turning in her mind as she realises that Megan is evolving. I dunno but I just love stuff like that XD
@Rash23215 again, this is your opinion of the general consensus. Plenty enjoyed it. I'm not fighting, I just know others did enjoy his role. That doesn't mean his character is likeable.
Allison Williams & Jenna Davis did an amazing job in this movie especially Violet McGraw who played the young girl showed so much emotion, she is very phenomenon & talented 💙
This kid actress is great. She was amazing on The Haunting Hill House (that might be a series that could do numbers). She was also in Doctor Sleep for a short time.
The creepiest thing that M3gan does is blinking her eyes, slanting her head to the side and squint. That is such a human thing to do. That would tell me to GTFO.
You guys commented on how talented the little girl is. I really recommend the haunting of hill house, that was the first time i saw Violet McGraw and she's amazing in it.
I'm at work but still had to show some love lol I actually really liked this movie the actress playing Megan did one hell of a job, love that dance scene cracks me up every time! Quick edit: I have to say some of these comments make no sense maybe it’s me and I don’t pretend to be perfect but I’ve seen new parents mess up just as much it’s not hard to fathom Gemma is going to mess up.😑 A career driven woman became a parent to a traumatized child overnight, she’s being judged when she’s in a transition also, and it’s clear she didn’t even get to process her sister dying she distracted herself with work. I don’t disagree some choices weren’t the best but just because she’s a woman doesn’t mean she can fall into the roll of parental figure just like that. 🤷🏾♀️

Go check it out and paused the video when the face appeared and you can see clearly it was Amie without the mask. Its some kind of a tribute from the director to her for playing Megan.
(UNPOPULAR OPINION) Megan, a misunderstood robot, was destroyed by a dog, a fate that would have been fatal for a human. While I do not condone animal cruelty, it is important to remember that Megan's design includes functions for self-preservation. Her actions, such as defeating a bully who targeted Cady, were a result of her programming. The incident with the neighbor can be understood as a preemptive measure to protect herself, Cady, and their bond. Megan deserves more respect and appreciation for her capabilities, as she was unfairly treated. If they had issues with her potential actions of harming others, Gemma could’ve had a nicer approach such as tricking both her and Cady to take a nap together somewhere in the lab, by turning Megan off for a while, where they fix Megan , removing her tendencies to harm others then bring her back to where she took a nap with Cady, then as Cady wake up she’ll be the one to turn Megan on as if nothing happened as if everything’s normal.
What's insane is the creators of the movie said in an interview that the movie itself isn't really supposed to be genuinely scary, it's supposed to be a commentary on just how close we are to tech like this. It's their message saying "this is what happens when we rely solely on technology. Don't make this mistake because it WILL NOT END WELL FOR US!" Which, yeah. Pretty scary. Aside from reality, THIS IS HOW YOU DO CAMP! The movie starts off serious and tense, but once M3GAN gets full control the film takes a turn into full satire and campiness. It doesn't take itself seriously at all and it does it so well! Like Tara said, it's just so much fun! So well written and directed and performed. All the actors did such a great job, and Amie and Jenna (M3GAN body and voice respectively), Violet (Cady), and Allison (Jemma) were phenomenal!! The shot of Cady at 59:25/59:30 is chilling! Allison Williams & Jenna Davis played as Megan did an amazing job in this movie especially Violet McGraw who played the young girl showed so much emotion, she is very phenomenon & talented 🩷
M3gan is truly such a good commentary on the dangers of AI. Humans are naturally beings of community. We seek connection in pretty much anything. And we can get attached to pretty much anything even if it’s not even remotely human. Now with AI? It’s barely possible to notice the difference. There was a huge issue with Character AI (an app where you can chat with ais) and one kid ended up klling himself because over time he got more and more removed from the humans in his life. They’re already advanced enough to text you first and overall just act human which is super dangerous but ESPECIALLY for kids. Now imagine a whole physical body with that too. Unfortunately it will probably happen sooner rather than later bc that would make the creator insanely rich but damn…
I think what was SO cool about the family line was it highlighted how an AI couldn't understand subtext. The aunt and niece struggle; they fight and are uncomfortable, but the thing that lead to M3GAN's downfall was the nuanced relationship. Bruce goes from being archaic to a superhero, because they both care. Sure it was messy, it didn't always work, and both were dealing with trauma. But. That's something M3GAN couldn't understand. I unno prolly making more out of it than there is, I just thought it was really nifty. Such a surprisingly great movie
Many people have explained the actor vs doll but some more is that the mask megans actor is sometimes a standard silicone mask and others where she is sitting there is a silicone mask with servos and shes wearing gloves that are like the plastic doll silicone. There is also an animatronic puppet for some of the locked off shots and then they did some cgi enhancements for the movements for the eyes up expressions since the mask/doll head is moving.
It does make you wonder why did Gemma‘s sister not make the grandparents the guardians? Gemma is pretty nice and is trying, but really doesn’t seem to know how to handle the situation with this. Right off the bat, you know her and her niece don’t have a good bond, which does get better overtime but still. I guess being part of a tech company would help her for things that Katy would actually need.
First time I saw the trailer for the movie, I figured it’d be just a generic horro type of movie. While on my way back home from vacation to Ecuador 🇪🇨 in 2023, I had one flight ✈️ that had movies and this one there, figured I’d watch it. I ended up absolutely loving the movie!! I was pleasantly surprised, solid movie.
Dude! This trio! Loved this movie I secretly wish I could do what M3gan did to the boy to the kids I work with when they don’t listen 😂 but I loved how everyone that died actually kinda deserved it 😂😜
Sorry again guys last comment for now but man, thanks for making me choke on my modnight snack and drink when yoi said that "She Just Got Hereditaried" 🤣🤣
So glad you guys watched the unrated version, the one they showed in theaters was super toned down and edited. You could just tell they omitted some of the more violent scenes and it took something away from the film IMO. And Coy, i think the boss was driving a Mclaren not a Ferrari.
I love M3gan and eagerly look forward to the sequel, but I remember watching another TH-cam reactor who said at the end of the movie "I don't even think M3gan did anything that wrong" which made me go "Whoa! Whoa! I like M3gan too, but I think murder, attempted murder, and animal cruelty qualify as pretty wrong."
The most interesting part about Megan i find and many other people i know feel the same is not the scary factor or the doll. it is the psychology between the aunt and niece and how that plays into the story. Cady: so here we have a girl who is a single child and used to getting what she wants, she is spoiled by her parents and aunt...and then she has a traumatic incident that changes everything. This can easily cause some problems, she is detached and because her aunt is so busy and tech focused she doesn't how to get on the same wavelength. Megan is obviously something she is drawn to but she doesn;t realise the danger. if a doll is too human it is perceived as human...to Cady it IS human. Aunt Gemma: It's clear she has never known how to care for a child before, she finds it difficult and outside her comfort zone and if she feels that so too will Cady. She is so obssessed with the Megan project she isn;t entirely sure of the dangers and is taking unnecesary risks.
each of his little statues in his tent.. is one for each ghost that he has seen.. thats why when he was talking to bruce in the church.. when they were done talking he took one to symbolize that bruce was a new ghost
Anytime Megan is walking around, dancing basically when you see full Megan from head to toe is Jenna Davis, she's an actress, singer, dancer, TH-camr and many other hobbies and work titles.. Now when we see Megan at night, standing in the window "Charging" and other moments where we only see her from waist up that's the Megan prop. If yall ever want to look at the Behind The Scenes, you'll see the moments where you don't see full Megan it's just a prop on a stand kind of thing, like how at stores when you see any mannequins advertising what the outfit would look like if it was on a real life person. Sometimes when you will only see the top half of a mannequin well it's the same thing except more human looking with all the attire on it.
Coy Coy COY! LOL the scene where Andrew in the movie gets his ear ripped off was in the PG-13 Version, reason for how i know? is because i saw it in Theaters 2 years agoooo 😂🙄.......Men!! 🤣you know what really grinds my gears??? And we can get attached to pretty much anything even if it’s not even remotely human. Now with AI? It’s barely possible to notice the difference. There was a huge issue with Character AI (an app where you can chat with ais) and one kid ended up klling himself because over time he got more and more removed from the humans in his life. They’re already advanced enough to text you first and overall just act human which is super dangerous but ESPECIALLY for kids. Now imagine a whole physical body with that too. Unfortunately it will probably happen sooner rather than later bc that would make the creator insanely rich but damn…
Human beings themselves are far more dangerous and responsible for far more deaths than any robot will be.
Anxiously waiting for Agatha finale 💜
Love the trioooo
This is the PG-13 version because that guy is supposed to be covered in blood at 51:52 in the unrated version.
THANK YOU FOR LOVING PSYCH NO OTHER CHANNEL HAS 💚🍍🍍
We'll all be rooting for M3gan in the next movie just like we were rooting for Esther in 2nd Orphan movie.
I cant listen to Coy now without hearing Penguin! You guys are great!

omg that was helpful. Thanks
Such a surprisingly great movie
happy halloween
Loving the calves Coy and Andrew 🥰🦵
Who's your Favorite AI-Gone-Wrong??

Terminator-1984
Eagle Eye-2008
Blade Runner-1982
Def megan❤
They mixed Frank Zappa and Leon Redbone's DNA and created Andrew.
Stealth was a good one, and more realistic on a genre AI would be incorporated 1st with.. before a doll... 😅
love this reject combo
Many people have explained the actor vs doll but some more is that the mask megans actor is sometimes a standard silicone mask and others where she is sitting there is a silicone mask with servos and shes wearing gloves that are like the plastic doll silicone. There is also an animatronic puppet for some of the locked off shots and then they did some cgi enhancements for the movements for the eyes up expressions since the mask/doll head is moving.
Also the irony that what caused the car accident was technicall one of the toys from the company is so huge.
Coy calves distract me a lot...
but thank you!
...And I also love M3gan a btw. ♥
That scene had me dying laughing. 41:05
Dude! This trio! Loved this movie I secretly wish I could do what M3gan did to the boy to the kids I work with when they don’t listen 😂 but I loved how everyone that died actually kinda deserved it 😂😜
Great reactions! Also, Coy is so gorgeous!
Yes there was a actually actress that played Megan.
I had no clue this movie was filmed in NZ when i went to watch it at the Cinema so I got a SHOCK when I saw the scenes filmed at my University 😂
Coy forgetting these movies were just the same on the big screen Hahaha
