    Great video. Thoroughly enjoyed the tackle breakdown and discussion. Great look at gear and baits for going after big Swimbait feeding Bass. Swimbait techniques, equipment and baits have come a looong way over the years. I had to watch this several times over the last 24hrs.... it was that enjoyable!.....I thought I was overboard having two dedicated Swimbait Bass setups.....and the beautiful thing in So Cal is that these rigs easily cross over to hunting big local Calicos too!
    Kind Regards,
    Pat

    I have two setups, both lexa hd 300 with st croix 8’6” and 8’ fishing for musky and bass at the same time. Most times I’m trying 6-8” bass swimbaits. For soft swimbaits im going 6” dreamsmasher and 6-8” real prey trout lures. I haven’t caught a bass on them but I have caught 2 musky. Using 80lb braid with 80lb mono leader. Still waiting to catch my first bass on them. I need to commit to them more.

    • @OliverNgy

      Because they do not fail on me. I add a small 80 lb class power swivel to the snap to eliminate line twist issues. They do not come stock with them.

    I’m new to the big swimbait game and recently won a new OrochiXX leviathan. What is a good reel to pair with it and what baits is it best suited for throwing?? I’m in Canada, central Ontario so don’t have many 10 lbs bass but lots of biggish largies and smallies plus giant pike and musky. What do you suggest?

Presently, I have a Dobyns Champion XP 795 rated for 1 - 5 oz. I was thinking of getting the Levante Leviathon for the next rod with a diawa tatula 300. Give me some guidance here. for Largemouth Bass, Musky, Murray Cod, LOCKED drag to control the fish. Smallmouth, Striper, Barramundi, you want some slip so they don't rip the hooks out as they have a more tenacious temperament during battle.

    Mahalo Oliver. Picked up a Mark 48 for
    bank fishing with 8” and under swimbaits both hard and soft...it’s an amazing target and skipping rod. It’s shorter length makes it much easier to handle while carrying, standing and casting next to cover. I thought it’s fast rating wouldn’t be parabolic enough for treble hook baits but it’s been fine keeping fish pinned and not allowing them to pull off...of course we aren’t talking double digit bass in northern Illinois but 4/5/6’s stay pegged very well. My only complaint is thats it’s heavy, like an ounce heavier than the Onager. I’d really like MegaBass to explain that one lol 😂

    Hello Oliver. After enjoying several viewings of this video it got me thinking about swinging on hardbait Bass takes and it totally reminded me of what the Captain (Red Rooster III) would tell new Wahoo fisherman on long range trips while down at Alijos Rocks in Mex and throwing Big Yo-Zuri Bonita Hardbaits: He’d say...if you swing on a Wahoo that takes your Big bait you’re saying “I don’t want that fish, I want to try for another”...I cracked up the first time I heard him say that but guys would still (in the excitement of the take- swing on a Wahoo). The fish would simply let go of a bait after playing “tug of war” for a while and break hearts. Tons of parallels to what you’re saying here.

      I ordered another Tatula 300 like you'd told me before and ordered the Diawa power handle for it. I liked it when you recommended it for the Tequila Baccarac, so figured I'd stick with it again. This thing is a nice stick man, you didn't steer me wrong...it can bomb cast those I slides! Haven't hooked up with it yet, but I know it'll do great!

    What gear ratio is the Lexa on the Mark 48?

  • @commander058
    @commander058 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Another question Oliver: I live in N.C. and our record for LM is 15lb14oz. You said the 12 inch baits are not worth the investment (in time I assume) for you. Do you think a 9 1/2 inch bait is approaching that diminishing returns limit for me in N.C? Your work on big baits has influenced my life. Thank you

    • @OliverNgy

    i’d run all megabass rods too if I get them for free. lol. i’m not hating at all, i’m stoked for you. but I can’t personally swing a $600+ swimbait set up, especially right now.
    I can throw up to 8oz baits on my set up right now, and it’s only a $250 combo.

    • @OliverNgy
      @OliverNgy 4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Here's a fact. THERE IS NOTHING IN THIS WORLD THAT IS FREE. You might not swing a $600 setup now, but I couldn't either for the majority of my life. I work for everything I have. EVERYTHING. You can throw an 8oz bait on a $50 combo if you had to. Is it going to be at maximum efficiency when we hopefully tie into the biggest fish of our lives? I'm not willing to bet on it. Hope you see this video as motivation, not trying to rub expensive gear in anybody's face. These are the best tools at my disposal, that's why I rock it. Have a great season!

      the 200 is too small for big bait applications in my opinion. That size is great for cranking though! Step up to 300 size and bigger.
