  • With a vision of a thriving future, the Greenwood community “built itself,” taking history in its own hands to grow around the energy of the railroad in the 1850s. The remnants of Greenwood’s railroad history are all around-more than history, they are the blueprints of Greenwood’s present and future.
Hear railroad veteran Tom Howie and railfan Duffy Bridges talk about the entrepreneurial attitude that brought the railroad to Greenwood, the impact of the textile industry and the foresight of a community that made its own history.

Stumbled on your video tonight! I well remember the tracks downtown and even the P&N. That would make an excellent story for you to tell. I grew up in Abbeville and it was a big thing to come over to the city of Greenwood! Continue to tell the rich history of your city!

At one time, there were 5 different RR's that served Greenwood. No other city in SC could say that.

@@williebeamen2x Greenville had the Southern, the Atlantic Coastline (now the Carolina & Piedmont), the Piedmont & Northern until 1969 (Seaboard Coastline, CSX, now Greenville & Western), and the abandoned Greenville & Northern. Spartanburg had the above mentioned, except the G&N, and also the Clinchfield. That was only 4.
