I can remember getting a junk kit from the scholastic bookfair as a kid, at that age I didn't know I wanted to be a magician until my early 20s. Thanks for the review David! My advice to new or starting magicians is talk to another magician with more experience and jam!
Just writing to say I agree with everything you've said here! Especially Mark Wilson's book, which I've owned for decades. Every once in a while I'll open it up and find something I've not tried before, or had forgotten about, or have fresh thoughts about, etc. And it has hundreds of tricks in it-what a value. It's a book a magician will keep forever.
I just got my 7 year old grandson into magic. This will be a great gift for him. Thanks for the review. Now I am thinking that I should get this for myself…..haha!
Really Nice Presentation and Introduction of this ‘Kit’ David…I’ve added it to my Magic Shopping List and the next person that asks to inspect a prop I use in a routine will get it thrown at them with the words…you’ve won todays prize, you can now stop wondering and start learning how to create interesting fun routines for yourself…lol😇
Great review and recommendations, David. This introductory magic kit has some great magic effects for the money, including one my favorite snacks, the Oreo cookie, and would be a great alternative to buying a single Disecto Arm Chopper for that budding 10-year-old magician, who saw it at a birthday party. I remember seeing David Copperfield doing the bite-cookie effect in Las Vegas and it was amazing… or, maybe it was performed by some kid after the show… I’m not sure, but it was a great effect - especially when the kid swallowed the Oreo. Hmmm, maybe it wasn’t the bite cookie… never mind. Kidding aside, your recommendations are spot on, especially for the second marked deck, and Mark Wilson’s 503-page tome is absolutely the best magic book value for a beginner. At under $60, these items would be a great introductory magic kit for a youngster; and, best of all, with these quality effects, a kid could even fool adults (which kids really like to do). Hey, how about teaming up with Penguin and offer your own "orthodox" magic kits? You could offer several price tiers, featuring a selection of progressively more advanced effects, and maybe a membership to a special “members” area of your magic tutorial channel. It’s just a thought….
Hi David, Great review, beats the standard sets and at a great price. I have a few nephews and nieces who have perfect aged kids for this set. Thanks...
Then next year you can give them the "Now You See It, Now You Don't" books! This is one of the few magic sets I would recommend to a beginner. One of the best things my dad ever did for me, when it was obvious I had 'magic on the brain', was not buying me a magic set, but finding out where magicians bought their stuff, (Tannen's) and getting me some real magic props and gimmicks, stuff that could actually fool people, a trick deck, and a book of card tricks. Never looked back.
Hi i have just a question about 2 products what is the difference between abra (travel) by jorden viktoria and Quartet by mark mason ? I love your videos and reviews 👍
I would also like to throw a recommendation out there since I feel like it is a good addition to kit, The bendy pen trick. It is a trick that plays off the classic of making a pen look bendy but it does actually bend in your hands, it can then be handed out and doesn't bend. The reason I reccomend it is because it looks like the pen through bill and is part of penguins Penny Arcade which is cheap items that can be bought for every $20 you spend, in the case of the bendy pen it is 1 cent.
If from a tight budget perspective, yes this is your quality choice. From a long term perspective, I will recommend owning Criss Angel Ultimate or Platinum Magic Kit. ❤
While I wholeheartedly agree that Mark Wilson's Complete Course in Magic is an essential magic book that everyone should have in their library, I DON'T think that there any any thumb tip effects in the book. Unless there was another edition of the book released after mine (and if there was, you better believe I'll be buying it tonight :)).
My first magic tricks box was the Disney magic trick briefcase full of plastic and foam junk. If I didn't met few years later a real magic shop dealer I would never go back to magic. Sellers and producers of low-end magic cases should be prosecuted 😆🤣
