Best we three Tim’s video yet. I agreed with so many of the comments:
    1) Crossway Ribbons
    2) Schuyler Cross on full taps, and 36 GSM with 10pt font. 36 GSM is so much better to turn. 28 GSM feels too thin.
    3) Premium Collection for the NET, I’m waiting for that to make my NET purchase
    4) Thomas Nelson / Zondervan premium collection is AWESOME !!
    5) Do the NKJV 2025
    6) Allan NASB 2020 ??
    7) Cambridge really does need to up their game for their price

A lot of time when I see a side-by-side comparison of a premium bible and a cheaper Leathersoft or Leathertouch or Two-toned bible, I'm actually more impressed with the look of the cheaper, non--premium version than the more expensive premium version.

I agree with Tim Wildsmith about Cambridge making bibles that are high quality but more affordable. I would suggest that for all exclusively premium bible publishers.
I agree with Tim Nickels about Thomas Collins and Zondervan breaking away from Harper-Collins and becoming an independent company.
I agree with Tim Frisch about stopping printing bibles in China and starting printing in other countries like South Korea, or the United States.

Another great video. I love it when you guys get together!
#1- No, No, No on a NKJV update. We have enough Bible translations. Focus needs to be on spreading God's Word, not rewriting it.
#2- I think alot of people fail to ever critique Schuyler Bibles enough. Yes they are nice (I purchased 2), but they have alot of room for improvement. Their concordances are horrible. I would like to see more of theirs offered in red letter or how about blue letter. I would also like to see them use a different shipping company other than FedEx. (Joking, sort of).
#3- Value for price I still think Thomas Nelson wins.

YES! YES! YES! THANK YOU, TIM NICKELS! I have always said Humble Lamb bibles are WAY TOO EXPENSIVE!! Humble Lamb bibles are great bibles. I love the color choices and I love that they say "The Word of God" instead of "Holy Bible" on them. I agree with Tim Nickels that they should have an option without the Gustave Doré artwork, but like Tim said, they are too expensive. But I do understand why they're so expensive after hearing what Tim said about them being a small company and not making that many bibles. Hopefully, as they become more established, they can start hiring more staff and start producing more bibles at a lower cost.

What would be really nice but pie-in-the-sky is for Harper-Collins to spin off Nelson, Zondervan, and the part of Collins that still produces bibles, as their own company, and perhaps for an explicitly Evangelical Protestant Christian concern to run them. Has to be all three.

I'm a low cost Bible consumer because of my budget. I honestly don't care for hardcover anything because they are difficult for me to handle, but if the cost of a hardcover is $20 + cheaper than the leathersoft or whatever they call it, I would have to go with the hardcover. I get that premium Bibles have a market, but I am sure there are many, many Bible reading Christians who are on very tight budgets and I wish at least a couple publishers would take the less financially fortunate folks into consideration and focus on better made inexpensive Bibles. Fortunately, I have all I need but I know of others who want to own two or three translations to enhance their studies, but can't afford it. Oh, and please don't refer us to the Internet because many of us only have cell phones and they are very difficult for visually challenged people to comfortably use.

I agree with two things here: 1. The NKJV text does not need to be updated. It took about 400 or so years to get an acceptable update to the JKV and the English language has not changed that much since the NKJV came on the scene - and yes, I predate the NKJV - a lot. and 2. I agree with leaving China. I have three editions of the NKJV two printed in the U. S. and one in Korea all with covers of synthetic leather. I am presently in the process of recovering the two American ones because the covers were falling apart. The Korean one looks as though it will last a few more years. Over all I am very well pleased with the three but I would definitely choose the American ones over the Korean. I might add the problems with these were the covers and not the text blocks - they are as good as new and the paper is good on all of them.
As far as China goes, I simply will not buy another Bible that is printed in China. I bought an NKJV by Nelson and one of the signatures towards the middle loosened up almost from the getgo. They replaced it - no questions asked (I did send them pictures.) I have a Holman NKJV that the cover was simply coming apart from the text block (also Chinese). They likewise replaced it no questions asked.
I buy Bibles to use - not to sit on a shelf. I have also decided that if I buy a Bible that you have made and put a lifetime guarantee on, and it is faulty, you better get ready to honor your guarantee.
My humble opinion - it’s really hard to beat ‘American Made’.

a low-cost, one-volume offering in the American Literary Version.
re-issue of the wildly successful NIV84, even though I wouldn't be reading it (been there, grew up with that).
    more cloth-over-board offerings.

Yes to a minor revision to the NKJV. But the biggest thing for me is to base the translation on the majority text and move the TR (received text) to the footnotes.
I would also create a table with all translation variants and add it to the back of the Bible. Much more efficient to see all the variants before starting to study a book of the Bible, rather than constantly look for footnotes.
Just check out how many times the TR differs from BOTH the majority and critical text in the book of Revelation!

    • @chrisa4583
      @chrisa4583 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@shelleyshulamite5976 No. The Critical text and the majority text are the two different text types that consider all the Greek texts. The received text (KJV) was based on a very small number of texts, so there are several places where the kjv will disagree with both the CT and the MT.
The NKJV has a great into on all this information. It is also the only translation that identifies all three of these Greek texts.

Thicker pages. Larger fonts. Made in America. The paper should be thicker for two reasons. Extremely easy to wrinkle- and never get those creases back out. And easier to read because there is no ghosting. 40 gsm sounds decent.
Bigger fonts because there are millions of readers who need larger, and bolder, print. everyone wants to sell to younger readers, omitting millions of people who would also gladly buy those bibles. I would suggest 12 point font as a standard size.
Made in America. Stop selling us out to a country that is perverting their own bibles.
